The Movie |
From when the first scene of Misty Beethoven: The Musical begins, you know this isn't going to be your standard adult movie. The movie starts with Randy Spears singing while he gets a blow job while the opening credits are displayed. Misty Beethoven: The Musical is not a remake or a musical reimagining of The Opening of Misty Beethoven; the closest it could be considered would be a sequel to The Opening of Misty Beethoven. Even considering it a sequel isn't really correct either. The characters in Misty Beethoven: The Musical acknowledge that they know of the characters in The Opening of Misty Beethoven, except they also acknowledge that The Opening of Misty Beethoven is a film. In addition, the character of Dr. Seymour Love exists within the universe of this film as well and in this movie.
In this version, Darren Daly (Randy Spears) and Allison Craves (Chloe) decide to take a horrible hooker and turn her into a pop star. They find Misty Beethoven (Sunset Thomas) and start working on her transformation. Misty Beethoven: The Musical doesn't ever come across as a rip off of The Opening of Misty Beethoven and ends up being a very fun and original film. Even Spears' cock gets to sing a song. The cast does a good job with their roles and the sex scenes are nice to watch. The songs are catchy and there are some nice numbers in the film, arranged by Romeo Lovell. Most of the cast does their own vocals, surprisingly well. Some cast members, Veronica Hart, Bronze, and John Skipp provide the singing voices for.
Misty Beethoven: The Musical isn't perfect, mostly I assume due, unfortunately, to the budgetary limitations of the movie. There are some lip syncing issues. The CGI for Darren Daly's singing cock isn't the greatest. There are no huge dance numbers and there are too few musical numbers within the movie. The lack of Jamie Gillis is also very evident. Dr. Seymour Love, who should be played by Gillis, is in the movie but Fred J. Lincoln plays Love instead of Gillis.
People often bitch and moan when they hear one of their favorite movies is getting a redo. In this case, any bitching is unwarranted. Misty Beethoven: The Musical is a good film in its own right and doesn't tarnish the reputation of The Opening of Misty Beethoven in the least. This film is definitely worth checking out.
The Edition |
VCA has done a really good job with the Collector's Edition release of Misty Beethoven: The Musical. Misty Beethoven: The Musical is presented in the academy aspect ratio of 1.33:1. The transfer on this release looks nice and is free from blemishes or any other noticeable issues. Colors look good and are nice and vibrant. There shouldn't be any complaints about the image on the disc.
Misty Beethoven: The Musical is presented with an English Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo audio track. The audio track is adequate. Given the content of the film, the inclusion of a Surround track would have been a nice option. However, the Stereo track does work and dialog is clear at all times and the musical numbers sound nice.
VCA has included a wealth of extras on this release. The first disc of the set, a DVD, contains the movie, a sex on demand menu, a wall to wall sex option for playing the film, and multiple angles. There is a feature length director's commentary audio track with Veronica Hart, Sunset Thomas, and John Skipp. There are also biographies, with video and audio components, for Sunset Thomas, Chloe, Julie Meadows, and Asia Carrera.
The second disc of the set, also a DVD, contains the bulk of the extras for the release. There is a behind the scenes piece that runs for 30 minutes. There is the “Director's Notebook” with Veronica Hart that runs for eight minutes. There is a minute and a half of bloopers on the disc. There is a piece called the “Extended Misty Vignette” that runs for five minutes and talks about the musical numbers in the movie. A piece called “Deep Inside Misty” with John Skipp that runs for ten minutes. And a piece called “Misty Beethoven: Then and Now” that runs for eight minutes with Veronica Hart. There is the music video for “The Penis Tango.” There is a photo gallery included on the disc. The original VHS tape box art is included for The Opening of Misty Beethoven.
There are also 49 minutes worth of bonus scenes included on the second disc. All of the bonus scenes had clips from them used within the feature film. The inclusion of the entire scene is a nice extra. The bonus scenes included on the release are from Being With Juli Ashton with Juli Ashton, Lexington Steele, and Mickey G., Torn with Ginger Lynn, Alec Metro, Chris Cannon, and Michael J. Cox, Edge Play with Marilyn Chambers, Nick Manning, and Dale DaBone, and Sinfullrella with Michele Raven, Anita Cannibal, and Dale DaBone.
The third disc of the set, an audio CD, contains the soundtrack for the film. Since Misty Beethoven: The Musical is a musical, this is a very nice inclusion to the release.
Final Thoughts |
Misty Beethoven: The Musical is a fun, and yes musical, adult feature movie that has a fun story, nice acting, and some catchy tunes. Veronica Hart does a good job of not remaking, nor really creating a sequel to, The Opening of Misty Beethoven. This is definitely a must see for fans of more than just sweaty bodies in adult movies. VCA has done a great job with this release and has loaded it with extras.
