Review:
Written by the ever-talented Shawn Alff and as a project near and dear to acclaimed director Ricky Greenwood's heart, the grungy 2022 Adult Time release, Grinders, takes us back to 1999 and the tumultuous world of urban street artists and skaters. At the center of the action is an uber-talented (and equally directionless) artist on the path to nowhere (Lucky Fate), who lives in a loft with a bunch of his aimless friends and who skateboards around L.A., adding his own brand of spray-painted artwork to the otherwise-bleak scenery along the way. As the story progresses, a potential love interest (Maya Woulfe) enters the picture, Lucky has issues with his rough-and-tumble father (Tommy Pistol), and legal issues always seem a hair's breadth away. Featuring a stellar cast, exceptional acting, and a poignant, relatable and provocative storyline, this release truly "hits" and is among the best of the year.
