Initial Expectations: I think Antonio Passolini is one of the most talented directors making movies right now in both the adult and mainstream fields. It’s impossible for me to not have extremely high hopes.

Initial Reaction: It’s Passolini’s most friendly feature for most viewers, but that doesn’t take any of the quality away from it.

Who Should Watch It : Anybody looking for something slightly different but extremely well done, hot, and fun

Who Should Avoid It: Anybody who wants lame sex or unenjoyable fast forward fodder

Audio /Video Quality: The audio and video are both excellent. The audio is very clear and well balanced. The video is extremely clear with barely any signs of pixelation.

Music: Antonio Passolini normally has a little different music, and this is no different. It’s very nicely balanced and gives a slightly more artistic feel to the scenes.

Menus: The menus are similar to the usual VCA menus, but are slightly different. It’s very easy to follow and great to see something different from VCA.

The Feature: There are some things in life that just go together. Peanut butter and jelly. Dicks and pussies. Then there are things that don’t go good together no matter how hard you try, such as Ed Powers and the human race or eating and swimming within a half hour when your Mom’s around. Then there are the things that seem like they should go together but you never see, such as hockey and Cheerleaders. Somewhere in that in between region lies Cap’n Mongo’s Porno Playhouse . The closest I can come to describing it is take three parts Pee Wee’s Playhouse , throw in a touch of a Pirate movie, a little bit of Krusty the Klown, a midget, and of course, a lot of hot sex. If it was done by anybody other than Antonio Passolini I’d be scared. Heck, even with Antonio doing it I’m scared. Luckily, Antonio is one of the most creative directors out there and knows how to make this right.

Miss Yvette (Teri Weigel) gets a visit from Fireman Dickie (Joel Lawrence) when he thinks he smells her hair pie, which she just happens to have baked. It’s been quite a while since we’ve seen Ms. Weigel, and she still looks very good. She’s made an addition here, such as a bright pink wig, a shaved pussy, and a clit ring. Joel starts out aggressively diving into her pussy and she follows it up by giving him some hand, oral, and tit-action. When she takes Joel’s third leg in her pussy, it’s great to hear that Teri’s just as vocal as she used to. If you think porn has hit a rut and is all the same, then you haven’t seen Cap’n Mongo’s Porno Playhouse yet. Antonio Passolini scores another great adult film here, this time doing an adult parody of children’s TV shows like Bozo the Clown and Pee Wee’s Playhouse . It’s one of those ideas that makes you wonder if Mr. Passolini is extremely committed to the Free the Weed campaign, but with how good it turns out, most people aren’t going to have enough blood left above their shoulders to do any more than control their bodily fluids and maintain breathing. It’s so hot that in some areas it might take guys and whichever relative they’re dating at the time well over a month to make it through it. This is one of those rare adult films that should be on every porno lover’s shelf.

Extras: The movie has two different options, the original version and the phat cut. The phat cut is about six minutes longer than the original version thanks to a longer scene between Keri Windsor and Teri Weigel and Evan Stone’s clown sex. VCA has given a few different options here. You can watch the original version, the phat version, or just watch the lengthened scenes alone. It’s a nice touch.

Once again, VCA offers multiple angles for Cap’n Mongo’s Porno Playhouse . The angles are all true angles, as opposed to some other companies’ multiple angles. They are also only available in certain parts of certain scenes rather than throughout every scene. Also unlike some other companies, the multiple angle icon isn’t visible throughout the scene. There’s a small icon that appears at the start and end of the section to let you know when it starts and ends. They icon stays on the screen during the alternate angle to let you know which angle you’re watching. It’s better than having it on through all of both angles, but it would be nice to be able to turn it off completely.

VCA put lots of good stuff on this DVD for fans of the behind the scenes workings. First is an interview with Cap’n Mongo. The good Cap’n talks about his scenes, his acting, and addresses some of the rumors that float around about him. It’s really a great interview. If you enjoy the movie, you’re going to love this interview.

There’s also a nice behind the scenes featurette that lasts about eight minutes. The only sex scene that’s covered is the scene between Bridgette Kerkove and Lee Stone, but you get quite a few different angles on it. You also get a few short crew interviews as well as a little bit of Cap’n Mongo. Of course, you also get to see a bit of the cast hanging out on the set. I would have liked the featurette to be a little longer, but it’s still decent.

The full length commentary includes Cap’n Mongo, Keri Windsor, and Tony Casanova (who sounds a lot like he might be Antonio Passolini). It’s a very fun commentary that’s half joking and half serious. Cap’n Mongo asks a lot of questions and there’s a lot of interplay between the group as they work through the questions. There’s also a lot of commentary about the guys’ balls, which is really amusing in addition to analyzing most aspects of the film. There’s even a little talk relating to anal sex and baboons. You don’t get that in every commentary. During the phat cut, the commentary disappears during Teri Weigel and Keri Windsor’s scene as well as Evan Stone’s scene. The commentary was recorded to the original movie, so that’s why there isn’t anything during the extended scenes.

Bios are included for Teri Weigel, Bridgette Kerkove, Ava Vincent, and Keri Windsor. Thankfully, VCA changed their audio bio style a little in addition to their menus. Although the style is a little different, they still contain a lot of the same information as well as a link to the performer’s scene. Also worth noting is the soft, sensual voice of Tina Tyler doing the narration.

There’s also some of the usual extras for VCA titles. The photo gallery lasts slightly over two minutes with about seven seconds per full screen photo. The photos all look very clear and have a nice spread across the feature. The only trailer included is for one of Mr. Passolini’s best, The Devil in Miss Jones 6 . Finally, there’s the virtual tour, contact information, and internet information.

Overall: Currently, Cap’n Mongo’s Porno Playhouse can be found online for between $20 and $25. This is one of the most original adult films I’ve ever scene and holds its own against Passolini’s other works. Even better, it’s an all around great DVD with hot sex, a fun plot that’s well acted, an excellent transfer, and quite a few very good extras. Almost anybody should be able to pick up Cap’n Mongo’s Porno Playhouse and find something they like.

Note to VCA: Thank you for changing around your menus a little. The old ones were getting very sickening. The only complaint I can have about this DVD is that it took this long to get here. Please keep Mr. Passolini at work and release his features on great DVDs like this as quickly as possible!
