Themes: Rough Sex, anal sex, group sex, some S/M play, animal commentary

Though this movie has been out for some months, I was motivated to watch it recently, owing to it having won two 2003 AVN (Adult Video News ) awards: Best Couples Sex Scene with Nacho Vidal and Belladonna, and Best Group Sex Scene with Julie Night, Ashley Long, Manuel Ferrara and Nacho. I figured these would have to be exceptionally well-done scenes, to have beaten out so many other gonzo films for these awards.

I was aware before watching this that it is a rough sex film, so was prepared for the slapping/ hair pulling / gagging blowjobs, etc. I've chosen to not detail all the action in each scene; Flash's well-written review here on ADT gives all the necessary info, so I will focus instead on my views for each scene.

Scene 1: Velvet Rose, Katya Kassin, Nacho Vidal
This one is called "Geisha Training" and it's all about teaching Katya how to submit to Nacho's will. Velvet is his willing accomplice, though she gets some of the rough treatment from Nacho as well. There are some messy gagging blowjobs, hard face slapping, anal and vaginal sex, with Nacho totally directing the flow of the action while he dominates the women verbally. Velvet looked more into the goings-on, while Katya was quiet and docile, though that was also the role she was supposed to play.

This scene was darkly lit, with key lights used to focus on the action, adding some eroticism to this segment. It was also had good camera work that added to the dark, edgy feeling.

Scene 2: Alicia Rhodes, Wesley Pipes and Boz
Nacho shot the scene POV style, as he offered Alicia up to the two black men as some sort of present. They have their way with her, including some messy BJ's, DP's, hard face slaps, anal sex and so on. There is one brief portion where Wesley and Alicia are doing simple vaginal sex in mish, with Alicia using a vibrator on herself as well; this is the only time in the entire film that I was certain an actress had an orgasm. Oh well!

I didn't find the men's ghetto dirty talk all that distracting, as so many male porn fans have complained about. These two men were, in fact, less verbally abusive to Alicia in this scene, than in all the other scenes featuring white men and white women. An added bonus was this one had less face slapping, as well.

After the two men come, Nacho hands Alicia a ring as a present for being such a "good girl" for him. Wesley growls to Nacho, "you old dawg!"

Scene 3: Julie Night, Ashley Long, Manuel Ferrara and Nacho Vidal
Julie plays a fruit vendor walking along the street, when suddenly the other three abduct her, take her to an apartment, and throw her to the floor. Thus starts this heavy scene. Julie is in for a lot of slapping, and not just from the men; Ashley gets in on abusing Julie, too. Julie gets the brunt of the verbal abuse, unsurprisingly.

Ashley, during one anal sex interlude with Nacho, receives some manual attention from him that looks it was about to make her have an orgasm. But, dammit, wouldn't you know, the camera pans away from them just at that moment, in order to focus on yet another slap for Julie as she is being pounded anally by Manuel.

Mostly this scene is the usual round of people switching partners, positions, and orifices every 1-2 minutes. Ashley looked like she could take the strong, abusive action far better than Julie, who appeared like she is enduring the scene for the most part, waiting for it to come to an end. Interestingly, Manuel ends by cumming on Ashley's ass, and then Nacho does the same, with Julie licking it up. To conclude, Nacho takes Julie over to an empty refrigerator and puts her inside it, I suppose to keep her "fresh" until they need to work her over the next time. Hope she doesn't suffocate in there.

For the life of me, I can't figure out why this won an AVN award. The action was not caught all that well by the camera, which flits about from one couple to the other. Just as importantly, the pacing was not all that well choreographed. Nacho and Manuel run around like two 10 year old boys on a playground. In my opinion, Ferrara and Holmes over at PlatinumX Pictures do a better job of these group sex scenes, with more finesse and order, without having to resort to shock tactics.

Scene 4: Avy Scott, Nacho Vidal and Coco the Capuchin monkey.
In this segment entitled "Jealous Monkey", full-figured Avy is tied up in a darkly-lit room, when Nacho starts in on her. She's done something wrong and is being held captive by him, as he brandishes a gun on her. To the right is a cute little Capuchin monkey in a cage, who adds his commentary to the scene with his constant screeching, crying and chattering, which is impossible to ignore.

Nacho does do a good job of using his erotic dirty talk with Avy, and there is a decent amount of eye contact and conversation between the two, which lends some real chemistry to this scene. Avy even has some acting ability, that lends an air of authenticity to the segment. There is the expected messy blowjob, some passionate vaginal sex, and some anal toy play with a wine bottle. The fervor heats up unexpectedly when Avy licks Nacho's shoes, and takes his socks off slowly, which was one of the more erotic moments in the entire film.

At one point, Nacho takes Avy over to a piano and bangs her while she leans on the keyboard, adding some dissonant musical accompaniment to the action. These strange sounds really sets the monkey off, with his screeching reaching its highest decibel level at this point. Round about now, the face slapping and hair-pulling starts up, which also has the monkey none too happy.

A blowjob ends the action, which had Nacho cumming extra hard, not just physically, but vocally. His moans were so deep and intense, he almost sounded like he was in pain from his orgasm. If only they had shown his face. Oh well.

As the camera fades out, we see one final shot of the monkey. He sits exhausted in his cage; he's worn himself out with all the screeching, and I think he was glad when that it was all over. My opinion: Coco wasn't jealous of the sex action, he was scared of it.

Scene 5: Belladonna and Nacho
This one, called the Angel Collector, has Belladonna in a darkly lit cage, where she is an angel in black, being held prisoner by Nacho. He comes to see her, and makes her give him an incredibly long, messy, gagging blowjob through the cage wires. Nacho then enters the cage, where he puts Belladonna through a round of rough action, including anal sex, more blowjobs, some vaginal sex, all with alternating acts of kissing, face slaps, and some verbal abuse.

What's notable about this segment is Belladonna's composure, or I should say, her lack of composure. She looks like she is in some kind of distress much of the time. I'm not certain if this was psychological in nature, or if she was in pain, or if this was her acting a role. At one point during the anal sex, she is crying. Nacho was oblivious to all this, which didn't make it any easier to watch. I was glad when the scene ended.

Once again, I don't understand why this got an AVN award. The fourth scene with Avy Scott had more passion to it, and frankly better sex action - so it didn't have any anal sex, big deal. Honestly, this scene with Belladonna (who has been the real on-again/ off-again girlfriend of Nacho's) had me thinking: am I watching a rough sex scenario, or am I witnessing an abusive relationship between a real-life couple?

Overall impression: Let me start off with the film's strong points. For a gonzo film, it was very well lit, with good scene décor, excellent lighting, decent camera work and editing that gave it a psychological edge. For whatever little acting the actors and actresses had to do, for the most part it was decently done. Just as importantly, the women's costumes were well chosen, and also fit them, and their makeup was done right for the roles that they played. One certainly didn't have the impression that the actresses were told to show up for their scenes wearing any old thing.

The rough sex aspects of the film were pretty much what I expected, with one exception – the constant face slapping. There must have been 423 face slaps in the film, a lot of them done purposely when it looked like an actress was about to feel some pleasure. Some of the slaps were done when a woman didn't hold her mouth open long enough, or when she looked away from Nacho without his permission. Make no mistake, this film was about putting the actresses in their place during the sex, that is, submissive to the men. With far less face slapping, the film would have had a far more erotic appeal to me.

In the BTS part, Avy Scott is asked what she thought of making this film. She said that she'll only do films like this with certain men, because she'll only let certain men beat her up. That sums up the attitude of this film in a nutshell – it's about women being beaten up, with some sex thrown in on top. And Avy gets the mildest treatment of all the actresses, with only about 20 face slaps in her scenes.

One other point about Avy's scene – during ~3 minutes of it in the beginning, when she is handcuffed with her hands behind her back, Nacho penetrates her pussy with his fingers, puts his fingers in her mouth, and then his dick in her mouth for a messy blowjob. It was my understanding that there is not supposed to be penetration like this in porn films, when a person is bound like this. Why it's in here, who knows. I'm surprised the people at Evil Angel let this through.

I must be fair and acknowledge, there was no choking in this movie. By that I mean there were no attempts to cut off an actress' airway by an strong actor pressing down hard on her neck with his hands. For small things like this, we must be grateful.

Let us conclude this review with some closing remarks from Coco, our little monkey friend:

[ /image ] --> Have you humans lost your minds? What's with all the aggression? We animals, sure we act aggressive, but we do it to fight for territory, or over food, or over mates. We don't do it for entertainment – why waste our energy over something inconsequential like that?
And you people over at AVN – out of the hundreds of gonzo couple and group sex scenes released over the past year, you couldn't find two others that didn't feature constant human aggression? You couldn't find a group sex scene that doesn't show a woman being abducted, having sex when she didn't want to? You couldn't find a couple's scene that doesn't have a woman bursting into tears?
Somebody, please send me back to the jungle – it's safer out there!

Best line in Film: Normally I can find a small, inadvertent moment of humor in a porn film, usually when someone says something unintentional. Sad to say, this movie had none, it's that dark. Even the Behind-the-Scenes footage is way too serious. Mostly it's Mason the PXP director interviewing the actresses; you would think from her tone and questions, she's making a documentary about the Holocaust.
