It's all about the chicanery, the subterfuge, and the sex (...and not necessarily in that order...) when everyone's favorite porno action hero, John Holmes (as Johnny Wadd), is put to the task of purchasing and bringing home safely an extraordinarily rare and expensive South African diamond. Of course, no one is to be trusted in this endeavor and just about everyone is--and turns out to be--a potential threat. Such is the case in I-Candy's "Blonde Fire", a very good, 1979 release from director Bob Chinn that features Holmes in yet another, acting-heavy, protagonist-type role that finds him again as the suave, cool-under-pressure, up-to-the-challenge hero. Blonde Fire is the final film in the Johnny Wadd film series that Bob Chinn had any involvement with. Blone Fire isn't the greatest film in the series and I wish that the series had a stronger film to end with. That aside, the film is enjoyable and has a decent plot and some enjoyable sex scenes. Films like this built the reputation of the "golden age" of adult, i.e., the years 1975 through 1982. This 1981 film is, of course, a spoof on the 1980 mainstream film "9 to 5" that starred Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Dolly Parton, and Dabney Coleman. In the adult version their parts are play by Loni Sanders, Annette Haven, Lisa DeLeew, and Herschel Savage. There's even a very nice theme song take-off on the famous Dolly Parton song that went with the mainstream movie. Plot and acting are superior to most seen today, and the sex scenes not only fit the plot, they advance the plot. Although the sex is by today's standards strictly couples fare, this is still a very hot movie and well worthwhile. Technically the disc is quite good, although the reverse angle gimmick was simply annoying. The video quality and audio are very good, given the age of the source material. [read the full review]
