I'll leave it up to the rabid fan base of this movie to decide how close in spirit they got but from watching the movie recently I'd say they came pretty close to nailing it, definitely a spare if not a strike! I did manage to catch an episode on Hulu and felt this parody did a pretty good job of catching the spirit of the show.
