Witch's Tail, A (Adam & Eve) Review

Initial Expectations: I think this is the highest my expectations have ever been for an Adam & Eve release. From what I’ve heard it’s got a great story, acting, directing, and of course, sex.

Initial Reaction: It didn’t completely meet me expectations, but as I said, I had extremely high expectations. Although it didn’t meet my expectations, it’s still the best DVD Adam & Eve has done.

Audio /Video Quality: Both are excellent. The picture is very crisp. The audio is almost as good as the video but shows a few signs of dubbing.

Music: The music is very well balanced and matches the movie well. It doesn’t dominate the scenes, and in parts of some scenes there isn’t even any music present.

Review: Asia Carrera seemed like the perfect choice to lead A Witch’s Tail as I don’t know how any man alive can withstand being bewitched by her incredible looks, sexual skills, intelligence, and acting skills. I would even be willing to place money on her being able to raise some things thought long dead on older men. Needless to say, with this in mind combined with an amazing DVD cover, I was surprised when Asia does not play a witch in A Witch’s Tail. Instead, she plays Jen, a struggling writer who inherits her aunt’s entire estate. Her aunt’s lawyer (Rayveness) calls shortly after Jen completes the next chapter in the book she’s writing.

Since this is a porno we get to watch the story Asia’s writing which has southern belle Julie Meadows welcoming her sweetheart Jeremiah (Chris Cannon) home after the Civil War. She works her magic to help the south rise again, and a couple hay bales appear with a blanket covering it so the poking occurs in all the right places. Those of you who have read some of my other reviews know that Julie is one of my favorite porn starlets and one who I think is extremely underappreciated by the masses. She doesn’t disappoint here either and screams and squeaks her head off with that gorgeous fuck-me smile on her face through most of the scene. It’s great to see the stars really enjoying themselves, and there isn’t any doubt here as Chris pounds away on her pussy and pile drivers her ass.

The phone call from Lola’s lawyer (see if you can say that five times fast) occurs at just the right time as Jen’s editor (Joel Lawrence) is really on her to finish the book she was supposed to have finished months ago. He’s also trying to take her out for dinner, but Jen doesn’t want anything to do with him. She’s trying to finish her book, but she isn’t sleeping well as her dreams are filled with erotic images. I’m guessing that this is something to do with karma and all the erotic images that Asia has put in others heads while they try to sleep after watching some of her performances. Jen goes out to see her aunt Lola’s estate and is given a ride by Rayveness. She’s attracted to Rayveness but fights off the urges she’s feeling for the first time. They’re met at the door by James (George Kaplan), the caretaker of Lola’s property. As he shows Jen her new estate she sees pictures of her aunt Lola (Anna Malle) for the first time. Lola doesn’t appear to have aged at all. Unfortunately, Jen finds out that she also inherited Lola’s cat. She apparently has never seen The Jerk to learn that cats are good for some things, like juggling.

Jen settles in and while writing that night a fog comes across her balcony and into her room. Steve Hatcher and Cheyenne Silver appear out of the fog in styles that look like they came out of 1920s. They’re very well dressed, but the concrete deck and fine clothes don’t stop them from bumping uglies while Jen watches from inside. It’s a well done scene and you really have to appreciate some of the technical aspects of it (which you can see in the behind the scenes featurette). Cheyenne’s natural and almost restrained sexuality goes great with the scene and matches the class that the costumes give the scene. Steve also does a great job as they both make full use of the construction of the balcony. After Steve pops, the cat’s eyes glow and it turns into Lola, who makes Jen fall asleep.

Jen wakes and showers the next day before meeting Rayveness by the pool. The shower scene is short but very tactful. It doesn’t get very detailed, but it matches Asia’s sexuality and what you expect from her in a scene. By the pool, Rayveness takes her bikini off, as this was how she and Lola always did business by the pool. Jen rubs oil on her back and then Rayveness insists that she return the favor, as well as take her suit off. Jen is very nervous as this is her first time, and of course things go lickity-split from there. Asia does a great job playing the virgin, and Rayveness is great as the experienced woman who’s thrilled to have a virgin. At the end of the scene, ghosts start to appear behind Rayveness and her eyes start to glow. Jen falls asleep again only to be awakened by James who informs her that her agent is there.

After meeting with her agent, Jen meets one of her neighbors (Alexandra Silk) who invites her and her agent to the party she’s throwing that night. Jen barely has time to meet any of the neighbors and get a drink before Alexandra takes Joel aside behind the hot tub. Anna comes over soon after and they both give Joel a welcome that he’ll never forget. After this welcome I think Jen’s agent is going to be stopping by at least once a week to check on the status of her writing. Jen watches the three of them from a table and Anna keeps throwing her glances. Jen is uncomfortable and more than a little ticked off. As Jen starts to leave at the end, Joel walks up asking where she was claiming that he’s been looking all over for her. Jen isn’t interested in talking with him and lets him talk to the hand as it slaps him across the face, leaving him completely confused.

At the house, James tells Jen that things are not always as they seem. Jen senses that James knows something about what’s going on after also being the caretaker for her Aunt Lola. He tells her of the witch who was once a queen in this area and how she was ousted by a wizard and vowed to one day return. Jen isn’t completely sold by the story, but that night the cat turns into Lola once again and leads her to a clearing where she is to be offered as a virgin sacrifice by Lola and her followers. Of course, Lola is stopped (although I won’t tell you exactly how), and Jen gets some once again. This time by a silent Jon Dough. This scene was kind of anti-climactic. Jon has done a lot better in other scenes. Here he seemed almost like he was in a trance (which I didn’t see fitting into the plot anywhere) and Asia does most of the work in the scene. It’s still probably an average scene, but with Asia and Jon finishing out the movie it should have been much better. Luckily, these events give Jen the motivation she needs to finish her book, which her editor loves.

Extras: As with almost every other adult DVD released there’s web access, phone sex numbers, and a photo gallery. The photo gallery is probably the worst thing out of the extra features. Many of the stills are very grainy and look almost like somebody shook salt over the photos. It’s manually controlled rather than being automated, but the pictures change extremely slowly. I’m extremely impatient with photo galleries and normally like to only spend a second or two on most photos unless it’s really outstanding. The photo gallery here took almost five seconds to change after hitting the button to change, and I grew impatient and only looked at eight or ten of the stills because of it.

The bios are quite well done here. They cover Asia, Anna, Cheyenne, Alexandra, Jon, Steve, and Rayveness. There’s a nice little write up on each star as well as a picture so you know who’s who. Unfortunately, Chris Cannon’s picture is used on Steve Hatcher’s bio, but this is something that is easily fixed in the future. The only other problem with the bios is there is no menu. If you want to find out about Rayveness, you have to go through everybody else’s screen to get there. If you’re interested in Julie Meadows, you have to go through everybody to find out that she’s not there. I think a menu for the bios would do wonders for this section.

Unlike many of their recent releases, Adam & Eve goes all out with trailers here. Well, maybe not all out, but there’s a total of thirteen trailers on this DVD. With how much extra material in on this DVD it appears that they did their best to fill it up. Twelve of the trailers are on one menu and the trailer for A Wolf’s Tail is on another menu. Don’t watch the trailer for A Wolf’s Tail until you’ve watched A Witch’s Tail. After watching the trailer for A Wolf’s Tail after the movie, I can’t wait for Adam & Eve to release it. I hope they give it as good of a treatment as they gave A Witch’s Tail.

The behind the scenes featurette lasts about twenty three minutes. It covers almost every scene in the feature as well as going into some of the special effects behind a scene or two. Almost every star in the feature has a short interview, and Alexandra Silk starts things off very nicely with her interview as well as quite a bit of narration for the first part of the featurette. The others do a great job also, but fans of Alexandra will want to pay a little more attention to this featurette as Alexandra’s interview and narration take up over a quarter of the featurette.

Raincoat Factor: Medium high.

Overall: Currently, A Witch’s Tail can be found online for between $14 and $25 with a couple stores offering it for under $15. Even for $20 this should not be passed up. The story’s great, the transfer’s great, and the extra’s are great. There’s not much more you could want here.

Note to Adam & Eve: Great job! This release reminded me how much I’d really like to see a commentary track on some of your upcoming releases. The behind the scenes does a great job, but I’m sure there’s a lot more that could be done, especially with how long Bud Lee has been making movies. Also, please see if there’s anything that can be done about the speed of the photo gallery. I like that your photo gallery is manual, so you can watch it as fast or slow as you want. I normally flip through them very fast and get frustrated if it takes too long. At the speed this photo gallery changed manually I would have much rather had an automated photo gallery. Despite these minor gripes, you’ve made great progress with your DVDs over the last year and I really look forward to what’s coming up.

Further Note: A day or two after this was posted I was informed that the photo problem with the bios has been fixed for the rest of the copies of A Witch’s Tail that are going to be released. Responses like that are part of why I’m so impressed with Adam & Eve as a company and continue to support and recommend them to others.
