White Angel Review

Having thought highly of Nothing to Hide 3 & 4, I was looking forward to James Avalon’s White Angel. Avalon demonstrated excellent direction in the former feature and although his style cooled the sex, the movie had some very good scenes in addition to a great story and production values. Unfortunately, White Angel makes a pale comparison - although it has good production values and some impressive acting by Anthony Crane, it just doesn’t have much body to it after 75 minutes.

The sex begins with the buxom Stacy Valentine and two guys (Chucky & J.J. Michaels). Avalon’s quickly-cutting, non-linear style isn’t too bad in this scene, but it’s not particularly hot and doesn’t seem to show Valentine at her best. The fairly routine sex ends with facials. Next, Chloe Nicole takes on Hershel Savage and Michael J. Cox. This scene is markedly better due to the absence of sudden edits, and includes anal and facials for Chloe.

Scene three with Kimberly Jade, Leanni Lei and Marc Davis is visually impressive and the stylistic elements were used effectively. This was probably the movie’s best scene. After that, Candy Apples, looking tasty in a business suit, asks for and receives three studs - Brick Majors, Julian and Marc Davis. The editing here was slightly overdone but this was still a good scene thanks to Candy. DP and facials for those who were wondering.

The final scene features a number of dancers in a red-lit room. I was able to identify Charlie and Laura Palmer, but didn’t recognise the others. The lighting, editing and music all got in the way here but there didn’t seem to be much on offer to begin with. There was the usual all-girl stuff: overdone moaning, not enough kissing and too many toys; nothing worth waiting to the end of the disc for. (Click here for screenshots)

Technically, the movie suffers from a good deal of grain and lack of sharpness in the visual department, which leads me to believe it was shot on film. The audio was about average and there was music during the sex scenes. I won’t be too hard on the A/V quality rating, but I have seen movies shot on film with much better technical aspects. The disc comes with 6 chapters but no extras.

Overall, I think White Angel had a lot of potential but failed to realise it. There were some good moments in the sex but it never quite got there and ended up being fairly disappointing (another scene with Stacy might have fixed that). Might be worth a rental for Avalon, Crane or Valentine fans, otherwise skip it.
