Review:
If nothing else, "Ugly George" (Global Media International films) is true to its name...ugly. Retracing some of the misdeeds of so-called Ugly George, who apparently had a raunchy, New York cable television show circa 1980, this cheesy flick offers up a variety of clips and segments from the program that touch upon a range of topics--almost all of them sophomoric and sexual. With his stereotypical accent, George goes around town, etc. and talks girls (some of them at least) out of their clothes (either outdoors or in his "Polish Penthouse"), shows off viewer submissions (nudes) and his mainstream media appearances, interviews various women including porn stars, and so on. There are even some brief mainstream appearances, as well--William Shatner, Jerry Hall, etc. The highlights include the porn legend and goddess, Marilyn Chambers (RIP), as a guest around the time of the release of "Insatiable", stripping down in her luxury hotel room and then pulling off George's pants. The interview that follows is interesting enough, despite the fact that George's dick is hanging out nearly the entire time and the cameraman is easily distracted by Chambers' famous, feminine charms. Another highlight involves a slender, young woman ("Eddie") from Ohio taking it all off for the camera. Again, George gets naked, too, and paws at her a bit...somewhat taking away from the scene. Kandi Barbour (RIP) and her famously-shaped breasts also give a nude interview that mentions the mainstream Hollywood casting couch environment so prevalently on display in today's harassment allegations. Not the first mention of this from a Golden Age porn star, it's still interesting and relevant. In many ways, George is reminiscent of a young Howard Stern, though far more explicit and far less famous and talented. Back in its day, this was probably edgy and novel, but viewed in a modern context, it largely falls flat. Fans of the era might (maybe...possibly...) want to take a look at this purely for historic / nostalgic / curiosity reasons, but it's quite difficult to recommend for anyone who falls outside of a very thin slice of the porn-viewing community. Most will likely just find it lame.
