Running Time: 79 min.

Production Date: Jan. 2000

Director: Stuart Canterbury

Cast: Sunset Thomas, Angelica Sin, Julie Meadows, Renee La Rue, Barrett Moore, Kyle Stone, Michael J. Cox, Zachery Addams, and Richard Hansom

Initial Expectations: I’ve had mixed results from Pleasure, but I’ve got some pretty high hopes with this cast and director.

Initial Reaction: It’s a decent porno but a couple technical problems really held it back.

Who Should Watch It : Fans of the cast or anybody looking for a decent middle of the road porno.

Who Should Avoid It: Anybody who likes high budget porn or raincoaters.

Audio /Video Quality: The audio quality is mixed. The opening sex scene with Angelica Sin has horrible audio. It’s dubbed worse than Godzilla movies, uneven, and choppy. The rest of the audio is balanced well and sounds a little better than most pornos. The video has some pixelation. It struck me as being just slightly above VHS quality.

Music: It’s your typical porno music but very well balanced with the rest of the action.

Review: Sundown follows Sunset Thomas, who finds herself in some trouble after her husband dies and leaves her a club. Her main competitor (Angelica Sin) wants to buy the club and she suddenly has her liquor license revoked. Her help (Kyle Stone, Julie Meadows, and Renee La Rue) smells something fishy (which is really bad when they’re in a porno) and refuses to go down without a fight although some of them don’t object at all to going down. It isn’t anything too deep and the sex was good enough to hold my interest throughout the movie.

Angelica Sin starts things off with Rich Hansom on Sunset’s porch after stopping by to pay her respects to Sunset after her husband died. Angelica looks really hot and gives Rich one heck of a sloppy blowjob. They keep with the public sex feel by not removing all of their clothes during the scene which helps increase the heat also. Angelica takes it in the ass as well as receiving a great facial at the end. It would have been a very hot scene if not for the technical problems. The sound is very uneven and choppy and was dubbed so badly that I wasn’t sure if I was even watching the right scene.

Sunset changes the mood a little in the next scene as she starts out masturbating on her bed after finding out she can’t open her club up. She looks extremely hot wearing lacy lingerie and she doesn’t use any toys on herself. She falls asleep as she diddles and dreams of her husband, Zachery Addams, who she starts dancing with. Of course they soon move beyond just dancing. The scene ghosts around a little, adding to the death of Zach, but it doesn’t last too long which is nice because it made the scene a little hard to watch. They move to a large, round, two tiered chair (I’m guessing as I haven’t ever seen a piece of furniture like it) where Zach proceeds to ream Sunset’s great ass before giving her a good facial. It’s a good scene and shows why Pleasure has Sunset as one of their contract girls.

After Angelica and Sunset meet to discuss a possible way for Sunset to keep her club open, Kyle has Barrett Moore stick around afterwards. Being the honest type, Kyle tells her she should stay because he wants to fuck her. Who says chivalry is dead? This was the weakest scene in the movie. Barrett doesn’t impress me too much and the scene didn’t have a lot of heat to it. It seems like it would be hard on the talent as at least one of them is on a barstool throughout the scene. To finish it off, I didn’t even see Kyle blow his load!

While Kyle bones Barrett at the club, Renee sticks around at Sunset’s house to keep her comfortable that night. With the talent I’ve seen from both of these ladies I had immediate high hopes for this scene and I wasn’t disappointed. Renee and Sunset have great chemistry together and they moved almost like they were both in each others bodies. There’s some toy usage in this one also, which I always enjoy. This was one of my favorite scenes and one that I’m sure will get some replaying in the future.

Finally, the voluptuous and vocal Julie Meadows takes on Michael J. Cox in his office. I don’t think I’ve seen a scene with Julie Meadows that I’ve regretted watching and this one is no different. Once again the two performers have great chemistry that raises the scene up quite a bit. Surprisingly, after having two anal scenes earlier in the movie this is the first one with a rim job. The only thing that disappointed me was that Julie took the pop shot on her stomach rather than her face.

Sundown strikes me as a very average feature. The plot can be seen through easier than a piece of wet toilet paper. Sadly, the technical problems in the first scene held back the movie some, but luckily the problems didn’t extend through the entire movie. The sex is fun and well done remaining very couples friendly and balances out some of the technical problems. Sunset Thomas does a very good job in her role and if she keeps up like this, I’m going to be watching for her a lot more.

Extras: The photo gallery contains approx. 21 good full screen photos. The bios give a little information about Angelica Sin, Barrett Moore, Julie Meadows, and Sunset Thomas. The trailers are for Stray Cat, Evil Eyes, Looker , Prey, Shattered Vows, Intimate Strangers, Penetrator 2, A Clockwork Orgy, Eros Instinct, and Back & Beyond. Most of them are pretty decent trailers and many of the films are by Nic Cramer. There’s also a few photos of the covers of other releases from Pleasure. Finally, there’s the usual internet links and phone sex commercials.

Themes: Straight, anal, lesbian, masturbation, rimming (male > female), and toys

Raincoat Factor: Medium high

Overall: Currently, Sundown can be found online for between $13 (on sale) and $24 with three of the four stores offering it for about $20 and up. If you’re a fan of anybody in the cast it’s probably worth the $13. There are a few technical problems at the beginning but they’re solved after the first scene and the extras are pretty average.

Note to Pleasure: The few problems in this DVD should have been caught by quality control. I doubt they even watched the first scene as the problems were prevalent throughout it.
