Audio /Video Quality: Normally one doesn’t expect compilations to have consistent technical aspects, but Shades of Sex 2 comes pretty close. Most of the audio is nicely balanced and clear, but there is a little dubbing. The video varies a little, since some of the scenes are gonzo style rather than features, but for the most part there’s very little grain in the video. The lighting is also pretty good, although there are a few shadow problems.

Music: The music varies quite a bit throughout the feature, both in balance and style. There are a few places where the music completely overpowers the rest of the audio, and some scenes don’t even have any music. This helps to give the feature a nice variety of styles.

Menus: The main menu has a nice bit of animation and is well organized. The chapter menu is also nicely done. Each scene is listed by the movie where it comes from. This is one of those little details that are why I have thought so highly of many of Adam & Eve’s compilations.

The Feature: Shades of Sex used to be Adam & Eve’s compilation that revolved around inter-racial sex. That doesn’t seem to be the case this time, as one of the scenes shown on the cover is two white girls getting busy. The action cuts from scene to scene very nicely, but doesn’t offer any clue as to who’s in each scene or where the scene comes from. Thanks to a little thought in the chapter menu, the origin isn’t a problem, as each scene is listed there by feature.

Evan Stone starts off Shades of Sex 2 in a scene from Emerald Rain with Alexa, a nicely proportioned native girl, in front of a waterfall. Unlike previous times where you might have seen this scene, this time it’s done in anamorphic widescreen, which really brings out the beauty of the location. The waterfall is a beautiful backdrop to the scene, although you rarely hear any of the waterfall’s noise. You do, however, hear some of the sex sounds throughout the scene. Alexa has a very natural look, complete with natural tits, and wouldn’t stand out at all if you met her on a street. That’s not a bad thing, as it adds a lot of realism to the scene. In a scene from Sex Across America Fourth Stop: New York, Luc Wylder wakes up Alexandra Silk, Tyler Wood, and Mr. Marcus to do the next scene together in the morning. It’s really great to see that Adam & Eve takes inter-racial sex to its true meaning, and includes many scenes with Latins and Orientals rather than giving into the current attitude that seems to think that it’s only inter-racial if it’s a black person with a person of a different race. It makes this a very well balanced compilation, and has a nice variety of styles as well. Shades of Sex 2 is a nicely done compilation that should have a little something for everybody.

Extras: The entire second side of the DVD is devoted to extras, and includes three bonus scenes, a photo gallery, and website information. The photo gallery is nicely organized using thumbnails. You can choose which of the twenty seven photos you want to see from the thumbnails, which are six to a screen, and then blow it up to near-full screen size. The only thing that’s missing is bios so you can recognize some of the cast.

The first bonus scene comes from Design for Desire, and was the best scene in the movie. Zora leads Mark Davis down to Kristal Summers on a leash. Mark’s dressed like he was just brought out of his cell after starring in The Porn Stud in the Iron Mask, while Zora’s mask is a little more ornate and definitely very cool. There’s barely a bad scene here, and they look very nice as well. There’s a nice mix of races, and the transfer is pretty good as well. There’s even three more scenes in the extras, which is really great on a compilation.

Note to Adam & Eve: It’s nice to see you putting this much effort into a compilation DVD rather than just slopping it together.
