Raw: The Rise and Fall of a Porn Star Review

I've taken a bit of a break from porn for a while, and I thought, well, I might as well start things off with a good movie. Was I right to start with this one?

The Movie: Raw works as a porn comedy. It's not as story heavy as Bliss and no where near as dark. Still, the script is tight and the acting is really strong.

Joel Lawrence and Kylie Ireland are engaged. Kylie wants a wedding to top all weddings, but Joel, being a struggling actor, can't afford everything she wants. So, what does he do? He becomes a porn star, and a really famous one at that. Things hit the fan though when his star status goes to his head.

The movie is pretty damn funny, and the acting from the leads is really strong. Joel Lawrence has always been a good feature guy, and he lets his comedic talents take over here. I've been impressed with him before, especially in movies like End Game and No No Briana, so I wasn't disappointed here. Kylie Ireland handles herself very well, and has more dialogue scenes than sex scenes, but she still comes off as the amazing woman that she is, just with a bitchy edge.

The rest of that cast does really well to.

But why am I talking about the acting? This is a porno, right? So the sex is what you want. Well, the sex ranges from rather blah (the first sex scene in the movie) to stellar (Kylie's threesome with the best men). So, if you stick with the movie you'll see the sex get progressivly better. Kylie has three total scenes in the movie. Her first scene is more restrained, but once she gets to her other two scenes she goes all out. The rest of the scenes are good, and most feature Joel Lawrence with a different girl. He's a great performer, and his scene with Anita Cannibal was intense. Just as a note, all the sex scenes in the movie include condoms. There is no condomless sex at all.

So, the movie is funny, the acting is good, the script is tight, and the sex is pretty damn impressive. Plus, it's all filmed with a strong sense of style and flair. Good stuff.

Tech Stuff: The picture is good and clear, and the audio is good, but a little light in some scenes, and the dialogue is hard to hear. But over all, a good package.

Extras: There are a good deal of extras here, but what you get isn't all that much. There is an added scene of Kylie dancing in her wedding dress outfit (the one she is wearing on the cover), and a short little behind the scenes video that shows some extra footage of the scene with the three best men. Not amazing, but okay. There is also a preview for Devil in Miss Jones 6.

OverAll: The movie is tight, and most of it works as good couples fair. I was surprised that all the sex scenes had condoms. A few of the later scenes take on a darker tone with with some name calling, spanking, and gagging, but it never gets to mean. I would definitly say this is a good buy, and if you want something a little darker to go with it then pick up Bliss from the same director.
Next up I'll try to review Jenna Jameson and Kylie Ireland's older movie Cherry Pie. Tried to view it before, but it had an interesting effect on the three other people who were watching the movie with me, so no one really got to watch the movie. Next time I'm watching that one alone.
