Peek Freak (Cal Vista) Review

A classic re-release from 1987, which was shot in France, in French. The dialogue has been dubbed in English, which was one if the first things I noticed. I find it a bit distracting when the words don't match the movements of the lips.

The basic story line is a very sexual couple look out their window one night and see a woman across the way masturbating on her bed, with the curtains open and the lights on. This begins their fascination with watching her, and even taking photos of her from across the way. The couple soon feels the need to start directing this young lady, and call her anonymously and give her suggestions of things she can do while they watch. Eventually the couple arranges it so they are the ones she takes back to her bed, only she doesn't know it is them. After their night of passion together, she tells them she is heading home the next day. I'll stop here so I don't ruin the ending for anyone.

The storyline is pretty good and moves the feature along at a nice pace. I find it more enjoyable than compilation DVDs, as it isn't the same thing over and over again. Being shot in the 1980s, there isn't a shaved beaver to be found and the scenes are a more realistic length than the mega long, multi take scenes from current DVDs which stretch out things to 20 minutes or more. These scenes were 5 minutes or so, which moved the movie along at a nice pace and didn't feel tedious or boring.

Being from an older source, the video quality isn't that great. Looks like it was mastered from a well used VHS tape with plenty of dust and scratch artifacts. They also kept popping up a copyright notice on the bottom of the screen through out the movie, a bit distracting. The already mentioned dubbed dialogue is the only comment I have on the audio.

The sex is pretty good, moves along at a good pace and has some variety in positions and pairings (MF, MMF, MFF, etc). There are times that the action is lost in the shadows or it was done on purpose to "tone down" the movie a bit, not sure which. Most of the money shots are achieved without the guy masturbating himself until he pops, a nice change from the norm.

Bonus material is some extra scenes from other movies, a few movie trailers, and a website ad.

Fans of classic porn, storylines, and voyeurism should enjoy this feature if they can overlook its shortcomings.
