Marie And Jack: A Hardcore Love Story Review

It's been a long time coming, no pun intended. I promised to review this film a year or more ago, but due to laziness and a friendly relationship with the Comstocks, I held off.

Now, however, a recent revival of interest in the title and the announcement of a new project from Comstock Films compels me to share my thoughts on what I felt was a very special film: a documentary of a couple's sex life in and out of the adult industry.

Who Will Like It
Couples, Women, people who truly enjoy sex and the concept of mutually-pleasurable, intimate human sexuality over the paint-by-numbers "which hole does the cum go in" fetishism served up by the majority of the adult industry

Who Should Avoid It
Anyone who doesn't like to see women in porn treated as anything other than (un-)willing sperm receptacles

Synopsis
The film is a documentary which introduces us to real-life adult film talent Jack Bravo and Marie Silva (Aria), who share their thoughts in interviews on being in adult and how that kind of sex is different from how they interact in their personal lives. These segments are interspersed with explicit demonstrations of the happy couple making love to each other, tenderly, smilingly, and sweetly as if they were at home. Of course, they're really "on set" during M&J, but it never feels that way. It feels natural and comfortable to watch them; you're invited in like old friends (if your friends happen to be adult film stars).

There is also a "you control the camera angle" bonus feature which I have yet to fully exploit. I don't have time to watch much porn and when I do, I need both hands. ;-P

What I Liked
The tone of the film is friendly and intimate. You don't feel like a twisted degenerate leering at a lurid sideshow; these people seem so normal and approachable. Jack is not the typical muscle-bound meat puppet with a gargantuan cock, destroyer of nubile young flesh, and Marie is not the typical fresh off the bus teenager who is about to be unsuspectingly mauled in all her holes and forced to gulp down multiple loads. How refreshing!

I was immediately drawn to Marie and Jack as people I'd like to know in my personal life: normal, mentally healthy adults who were sharing something special with us, rather than the usual porno caricatures (granted, I've only watched gonzo in recent years; features make my head hurt). This feeling would last until the credits rolled.

The kicker was that I watched it for the first time with my wife at my side, who is completely turned off by any adult fare more explicit than late-night softcore. My wife watched M&J with me in its entirety, which by itself speaks volumes more about this film's couples-friendliness and appeal to women than I can possibly express.

That alone is worth the price of admission for me, folks: the sheer fact that the film served as a reminder of the human side of sexuality rather than a reminder of just how dehumanizing sex can be shown to be.

Watching this was like basking in sunshine after years of wallowing in the mud. It's nice to feel good about being a normal, healthy sexual creature sometimes, ain't it? Yes, it most certainly is.

What I Disliked
It's not a dislike so much as a disclaimer: I watch porn primarily as an outlet for excess sexual energy. I have a strong and vivid imagination which sometimes gives me little peace.

Sometimes seeing those fresh off the bus, mauled in every hole, spanked within an inch of their lives, cum guzzling little teenagers really helps take the edge off. But if you can't conceive of watching porn for any other reason than to see that, avoid this film.

DVD Quality
The packaging was for shit. I would've liked to have had a nice clamshell case, not this cheap little clear plastic thing. That may've had something to do with the price I paid, though, I'm not really sure. There was a $14.95 special, so that's the one my cheap ass ordered.

A four-color process cover would've been nice. (And signed like I asked, greasemonkey; you're gonna be famous one day and you deserve it).

Overall Thoughts
If you're looking for a couples-friendly feature with a story, keep looking. (And tell me what it's called, please?)

If you're looking for something you can watch with your wife or gf and not feel uncomfortable when the camera starts zooming in on the girl's well-stretched, canyon-like gaped ass tunnel -- here ya go! Problem solved.
