Initial Expectations: After all the praise that Flash and YogaGrrl heaped on this one, I can’t help but go in with high expectations!

Initial Reaction: Complete amazement (in the good way!). Go buy this DVD and then come back to read the rest of the review!

Who Should Watch It : Anybody wanting passionate sex or to see a different side of porn stars

Who Should Avoid It: Anybody who can’t stand Aria (Marie Silva), and then only on days when you really can’t stand her or anybody who needs to see quadruple anal penetrations done on high wires while barefoot midgets throw flaming torches at the performers

Audio /Video Quality: The audio is very nicely done. It’s clear and well balanced, but there are a couple very quiet background noises. The video is presented in non-anamorphic widescreen. Although I hate seeing non-anamorphic widescreen, as it strikes me as a Wal-Mart widescreen, it’s different here (although people with a widescreen TV will still suffer from it). The movie is set apart from the black bars by red lines, which gives it a much more artistic feeling and drew my attention to the center of the screen even more than normal. There are a few times when the widescreen format seems a little restrictive, but most of the time it works very well. There’s some slight grain to the picture, almost as if it were shot on film and treated exactly right, but I’m pretty sure that it was shot on video and treated with filters. It’s also very nicely lit.

Music: None

Disc Complaints: There’s no time stamp, which always knocks down a DVD a notch or two for me. I like to jump around in movies occasionally and even to go back to specific points in the movie. Without a time stamp, I can’t do that. As I understand it, including a time stamp costs next to nothing and takes almost no effort, which makes the lack of one really irritating to me.

Menus: There aren’t really any menus. The only menu included allows you to choose between watching the movie and on whether you want to see the alternate camera angles as picture in picture or not.

The Feature: Marie Silva, who’s better known as Aria nowdays, starts things out with Jack Bravo talking about how they met. They talk about how different they were and what the people they normally dated were like. They also talk about how what you see of Aria on screen differs with how she really is and how they prepare for her roles. They talk about dealing with the fans and their questions about their relationship, as well as having a relationship and how it works for them when they’re in the adult industry. It all comes off extremely natural and personal, without a single second feeling faked.

The sex starts off nice and slow. Marie and Jack kiss each other passionately while they undress and caress each other. Marie gives Jack a little head before they trade places so he can warm her up with his tongue. He teases Marie slightly before fucking her, and they don’t let up on the kissing as they work from missionary into cowgirl. They move on to spoon, where Jack plays with Marie’s clit, before going back to missionary where Marie looks like she might be giving Jack a little light anal stimulation. Finally, Jack pulls out and Marie grabs his cock so he pops on her stomach.

I’m not sure I can recommend Marie and Jack: A Hardcore Love Story highly enough. Two minutes into this feature I was completely sucked in. The love between Marie and Jack is undeniable as the movie goes on, and although the sex isn’t hard or nasty like I’m used to from Aria (who almost seems like a completely different person from the Marie one sees here), it’s amazingly hot! I’ve watched a ton of studio porn as well as a fair amount of amateur porn, and few scenes have compared with the passion Marie and Jack have here. I also have to give a lot of credit to Tony Comstock’s editing and camera work. The camera work is slightly artistic and professional, but has just enough of a wild spirit to it to make it stand very much on its own. The editing is every bit as good as the camera work, if not better. I absolutely hate it when sex scenes are cut together with anything else to any extent, whether it’s with other sex scenes, plot sequences, the Minnesota Vikings choking at playoff time or in the Super Bowl, or the New York Yankees lose the World Series. Okay, I could probably handle watching the Vikings or Yankees lose, but who couldn’t? Anyway, Tony Comstock masterfully edits the sex scene together with Marie and Jack talking in such a way that the heat never left the scene! I think the first time it cut together I swore out of habit, and every time after that the heat just continued to flow between them. I’m amazed at how well Tony edited it all together! Marie and Jack: A Hardcore Love Story is an amazing adult film. Yes, it’s short, but I don’t think there’s a better example of quality over quantity than Marie and Jack: A Hardcore Love Story!

Extras: The only extra is multiple angles. You don’t get to watch them as part of the main feature, but instead can watch them as part of a sex-only option. You’re given the choice between watching the multiple angles as picture-in-picture or full screen flipping back and forth using the multiple angle feature. If you watch the scene this way, it’s presented in the full screen format rather than the non-anamorphic presentation of the feature. Unlike some other companies offerings, that’s about the only change you’ll see here. The multiple angles appear to synch perfectly with each other, and I think releasing the sex on its own like this is a great idea for an extra.

Although this is the only extra, I really can’t complain about the lack of extras here. As far as I know, this is Comstock Films’ first DVD, which means there isn’t a lot of other material to draw from. A little extra interview footage might have been nice, but that’s about the only thing I can think of for an extra here. For a first DVD, this works very well.

Overall: Currently, Marie & Jack: A Hardcore Love Story can be found online for $15. Yes, the feature is short, but don’t think twice about it as this is money very well spent! The movie is fantastically passionate and extremely well done. The technical aspects are very nicely done, and the few extras also work very well.

Note to Comstock Films: Although there’s a couple minor areas where the overall DVD could improve, I think the most important thing would be to get out another movie!!!!!!!
