Review

This film has so much potential: the elaborate creepy sets and props, a bevy of hot sexy Goth babes, a sleek fetish wardrobe, cool cinematography, lighting and effects. The lighting is dark and moody and the look has a filmic feel with film grain and scratches using digital editing filters. Sound is overall good and the music moody, yet sometimes the sound effects are a bit jarring and intrusive. For all of these features it receives an A+ rating, and in my opinion is as good as or better than the majority of porn out there, especially in this small niche genre. Unfortunately, just because everyone else is making bad porn, doesn’t mean that bad porn should be the norm. Obviously someone cared enough to light the scenes well, buy sexy fetish wear and hire attractive (if somewhat unenthusiastic) performers. Despite being a film that was “pretty to look at” it fails because the sex is overall repetitive and mediocre, and the performances for the most part are rather stilted. Also, the editing is annoying, featuring jump-cuts that catapult you from one action to next in a jarring line of attack, artsy-wanna-be dissolves and overlaps, as well as digital ghosting which looks cool to begin with but becomes annoying if used too long as it staggers and blurs the action. Nice effect in a sci-fi film, but should be used sparingly in a porn flick.

Each scene is rather formulaic: they begin with a girl’s confession of why they think Goth is sexy which crosscuts to them masturbating and ends with a cum-shot facial. In fact, in the Special Features menu, there are sections with Solo Scenes and Cum Shots that allows you to jump directly to the prelude or climax of any scene.

Obviously, the intended audience is not Goth, as those who live in this alternative subculture would be insulted that these girls have to “defend” their identity by explaining why Goth is cool or sexy. It is targeted to white, heterosexual men who want to sample a bit of leather instead of lace. But, does it have chick allure? Well, the costumes are pretty cool and would interest any fetish fashion diva out there, but the sex is more geared towards “the almightily cock” and “money shots” in which the girls are dishing it all out and don’t receive a lot in return. For the most part, I think women are more partial to porn in which the women get as much pleasure as they give and the foreplay is as important as the fucking scenes. The sex scenes in this film don’t linger on the warm-up but cut straight to the sucking and fucking.

Does it appeal to its target audience? I asked my SO, the Gladiator who watched the film with me for his particular response to the film. Like me, he thought the production values were very good, but described the sex as “average and unadventurous” and the performances as “unexceptional and routine”. Like me, he was hoping for a lot more in terms of diversity, sexual exploration and experimentation. Unfortunately, the Goth girls in this film only do vanilla.

Scene 1: Goth Sex in the Graveyard

Imagine my excitement when I spy this cute purple haired Goth chic walking ghost-like in a lapse-dissolve through a graveyard, then administering solo sex to herself on top of a tombstone. Gloom, Doom, and Unholy Trinity, Batman! Soon however, my enthusiasm turns to boredom as the actress (Gia Jordan) pets her pussy with all the passion of someone writing their grocery list. As the crucifixes hanging around her neck dangle over her pubis, I imagine her using them to fuck herself like any self-respecting Goth girl would, but my hopes are vanquished as she continues to dry-fuck her pale, shaved cunt. What most likely makes this scene with Gia so emotionless is that all synch sound is missing (where she’d be ooohing and ahhhing) and replaced with the sound effects and music. Suddenly, a very sexy raven-tressed beauty appears (Mikayla Cox) and starts masturbating as well, and I think—ah ha!—two sexy chicks going to get it on. But—they don’t.

Fortunately, however, you can hear Mikayla moaning which adds a lot more to the scene. Instead, they swap spit for about two minutes before a guy (Kris Slater) in ghoul make-up and a trench coat materializes to save them from tedium. Scene 2: Getting Frisky at the Disco

This BDSM scene featuring real-life players Little Bit and Master Liam is the most interesting and edgiest in the entire film. It actually opens with a disclaimer, which is always a good start. It begins with a very young-looking woman (Little Bit) in multiple pigtails chained in a dungeon then cuts to her masturbating and then back to the chains again. The film looks like real stock because of the scratches and grain, giving it an authentic documentary look. This film has all of the characteristics of a great fuck film—except the most important ones—good performances and interesting sex. Although the film itself it high in quality, it does not live up to my expectations of what a good porno should be. (But, then that is true of 80% of the porn out there). That doesn’t stop me from searching, though.
