Review:
Confined to her own glass cage, as gilded as it may be, Hollywood superstar Maitland Ward ultimately chances upon a young, intimacy-challenged couple (A.J. and Little Dragon) at a local laundromat. Apparently, Dragon won't give up the goods to her boyfriend, who's been reduced to sniffing her panties and outright pleading for a little taste. With handfuls of cash and the big-dicked assistance of two fellow patrons of the establishment (Jamie Knoxx and Coach Cardher), Maitland is determined to remedy the situation...in her own unique (and distinctly diabolical) way. So goes the third installment of Drift, the new adult epic from director-extraordinaire, Kayden Kross, that's rolling out weekly over at Deeper.com.
Picking up where the second scene left off (and prior to reaching the laundromat), Maitland Ward--clad merely in an open, white fur coat and heels--continues her kink-laden, late-night prowl through the city. With stylings reminiscent of Rodriguez' Sin City and the neo-noir, she hangs out with streetwalkers--helping one procure a john--and runs into female fans...for whom she needs to cover up her nudity (an analogy for hiding her true self?) and reassume her perky facade. Needless to say, Maitland finds herself far more at home with the former group than the latter...and it's clear that this production--in a broader sense--is largely a commentary on the unreasonable societal standards and expectations placed upon those in a position of fame. The tradeoff? Not always a good one.
Being a Kayden Kross feature, it should come as no surprise that the top-notch production values of the previous sequences are maintained throughout this third scene of the film. The lighting is extraordinary, as are the editing, camera work, and shots. The soundtrack once again is melded perfectly into the onscreen happenings, and quick-hit cut scenes and varying color schemes are utilized to strong effect. Indeed, all of these myriad elements synergistically combine to evoke the dark, foreboding, and erotic mood for which Kross is striving. This is mainstream-level quality...in all technical respects (...and otherwise).
The acting and dialog--which include dark and intentionally-jaded voiceovers by Ward--are also compelling and evocative of the noir tones of the release, while the sex itself is blistering in its heat from start to finish. Indeed, A.J. is forced to watch as his stunning (though hesitant toward him) girlfriend, Little Dragon, revels in the pleasures of the arms (and cocks) of two much bigger and darker strangers (Knoxx and Cardher). All the while, Maitland compounds matters by perching her head over A.J.'s shoulder...smoking and whispering the sweet nothings of sexual inadequacy into his susceptible ear. Further driving home these deep-seated emotions inherent to this newly-minted-cuckold motif, the portions of the scene involving Dragon and her gentlemen are captured in vibrant color and are full of life, while--in contrast--A.J.'s and Maitland's are drab, black-and-white, and anxious. Pure perfection in all respects.
