The Short Story

Initial Expectations: Being a straight guy I'm a little nervous about watching this one, but I've love everything else the Comstocks have done to the point that I can't resist checking this one out too.

Initial Reaction: The movie didn't do a lot for me being a straight guy, but the behind the scenes featurette was fantastic and made the DVD worthwhile for me.

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: As usual with Comstock Films, the technical aspects are very nicely done. The audio is clear and well balanced, and I didn't notice any background noises that interfered with it. The video is a mix of film and 24P in anamorphic widescreen. There's a touch of grain due to the film, but also some very nice depth. The lighting is also a bit dark, but with the care that goes into so much of the movie it's hard to not think that it's done on purpose for an erotic effect. There are a few soft focus blurs, but that also adds a bit to the charm of the movie.

Music: None

Menus: The main menu simply lets you choose between the movie and the extras with a slightly more artistic look at the boxcover photo behind it. It's not the most impressive, but for this release it works.

The Feature

Comstock films takes a different route at adult entertainment. Rather than focusing on just the sex, like traditional adult films, it focuses on the relationship so you can appreciate all there is behind the sex. This time the focus is on gay couple Damon DeMarco and Hunter James. They talk about meeting as roommates and Damon realizing how much they had in common when he snuck into Hunter's room and saw some of the music posters on his wall. They talk about how they got together, their different backgrounds, and coming out. They talk about their sexual likes and sexuality as well as how the sex in this release was different from the other movies they were in. Throughout their talk you get clips of them making love as well as a full lovemaking session.

Scene 1 – Damon DeMarco and Hunter James

Damon and Hunter start out kissing and stripping each other down. Hunter sucks Damon's cock before laying back and letting Damon reciprocate on him while they mix in plenty of kissing. They slide a rubber onto Hunter before Damon rides him cowgirl (or is it now cowboy?) style and lies back for Hunter to fuck him missionary style as they both stroke his cock a bit. They lube up and stroke each other vigorously with Damon jerking Hunter back onto his own stomach before kissing him. Afterwards Damon lays back and strokes himself onto his stomach as Hunter watches and then kisses his leg as he finishes.

As a straight guy this scene wasn't the easiest for me to get into. That said, although the mechanics didn't do much for me you could definitely feel the chemistry between Damon and Hunter. The camera work captures the action nicely, and as usual with the Comstocks the lighting is a little low to add to the eroticism of the scene. The action moves along at a nice pace and has a very realistic and natural feel to it that's a nice relief. Although this isn't my bag, it is nicely done.

Damon & Hunter: Doing it Together is a nicely done movie. I'll readily admit that it's very hard for me to judge this one just because I'm a straight guy and the sex here just isn't my thing. At the same time, it gave me everything I've come to expect from Tony and Peggy Comstock. The movie takes a great look at not just the sex between Damon and Hunter, but the relationship and how it's grown over time. You can see how much they care for each other and appreciate what they have after hearing their story. The sex is nicely captured with an erotic slant on things, and it nicely mixes up the angles. If you're curious about gay sex or relationships, or even if you just want to ogle a couple of good looking guys as they talk about each other and make out, Damon & Hunter: Doing it Together is well worth checking out.

The Extra Stuff

Trailers are included for Marie & Jack: A Hardcore Love Story, Matt and Khym: Better Than Ever, Xana and Dax: When Opposites Attract, and Ashley & Kisha: Finding the Right Fit. There's also a behind the scenes look at the movie.

The Making of a Love Scene lasts forty five minutes. This featurette really lets you have it. To start with, you get three camera angles. You get one for Tony Comstock, one for Peggy Comstock, and one that's a set camera for capturing the audio that also captures them shooting Damon and Hunter which also shows Tony and Peggy's footage with the picture in picture format. You also get the choice between hearing just Damon and Hunter or a commentary where Tony, who sounds a bit like Eugene Levy, and Peggy, who sounds nothing like Eugene Levy, talk about making the movie. Although the movie didn't do a lot for me due to my tastes, this featurette really drew me in. Tony and Peggy do a great job talking about both the technical side of things as well as stories about all the other things that happened while making their movies. They talk about things they've learned making movies for both gay and straight sex as well as things they've learned about sex through the years. It's so good that even if you don't care about gay sex I'd recommend picking up this DVD if you really like Comstock's other releases. This featurette really made the DVD for me.

The Bottom Line:

Currently, Comstock Films’ DVDs can be found for around $25. If you want a movie about a gay relationship, this is going to be money well spent. As usual, the Comstocks do a great job letting Damon and Hunter show their relationship as well as their lovemaking. The technical aspects are nicely done, but the extras were the real star here with a fantastic behind the scenes featurette. The gay aspect didn't interest me here, but the behind the scenes featurette made this DVD all worthwhile. This is yet another very well done Comstock release.
