8th Day, The (Adam & Eve) Review

Review:
“The 8th Day” is a post-Apocalyptic, science fiction epic that is distributed by Adam & Eve and that stars blonde contract girl, Kayden Kross. The plot focuses on the remnants of a world that has been destroyed by “the burn”—a nuclear holocaust—brought about by a scientist who was also Kayden’s deceased father. Emerging from a protective chamber years after “the burn”, Kayden sets forth into this strange land—a land that is fraught with danger and that features a dog-eat-dog, every-man-for-himself mentality. In this setting, the remainder of the Earth’s population has organized itself into “tribes”—each of which has been impacted by “the burn” in a different way. During her adventures, Kayden comes in contact with members of the multiple “tribes”, is captured and briefly enslaved, befriends a “Scav”—played by the ever-spunky Amber Rayne, and ultimately encounters a narcissistic “Prince” who runs a trading community in the desert with his “burn”-enhanced charms. Not to give away the ending of the movie, but let’s just say that it doesn’t end well for humanity or for Kayden—at least from all outward appearances.

The storyline—which, on paper, sounds quite interesting—is overall very good for an adult feature, but it’s not perfect. There is plenty of dialogue and, thus, plenty of chances for the various actors / actresses to showcase their talents—which Kayden, Amber, and company do quite well. That said, there is a distinct lack of plot twists, and things kind of get off to a slow start. The somewhat abrupt ending also leaves the viewer a bit wanting. For an adult film, though, the plot is very good—though certainly not the best out there, either.

The production values for the movie are absolutely top-notch. The discs—of which there are four—play beautifully on an HDTV connected via HDMI outputs from a DVD or blu ray player. The sets are spectacular, and they add a lot to the visuals and realism of the feature. It is clear that a lot of painstaking work has gone into setting up this entire endeavor. No expense appears to have been spared, and it goes over well.

In terms of the sex, there are eight full scenes and a couple of what could be designated as mini-scenes. It is in this department—coupled with the initial slow start of the storyline—where things get a bit dicey for this production. Of the first four full scenes and one mini-scene—which collectively make up the first disc—there really isn’t anything spectacular that is presented. In Scene One, Kayden takes on Tommy Gunn and another male performer in a ménage-a-trois. While this is noted as a first for Ms. Kross—and is a good sequence—there is a third guy that is present initially who is left out, and it also feels more like two individual, boy-girl segments than a true, full-on boy-boy-girl scene. That said, there are elements of the boy-boy-girl nature here, so it does “count”. This one ends in a pop-shot on Kayden’s ass cheek followed by a cum-shot to her face / mouth and some oral cock clean-off. Between this full sequence and the next is a mini-scene in which Kayden—situated in an industrial-like, run-down area of L.A.—pees for the camera. The action is captured in a close-up manner. Scene Two involves Kylie Ireland, Jandi Lin (her slave), and Derrick Pierce (her servant). Jandi gets spanked by Derrick a bit—at the behest of Kylie—before he services Ms. Ireland in multiple positions—including missionary-like anal and reverse-cowgirl anal. While almost all of this sequence is Kylie’s, it is Jandi who has to take Derrick’s facial pop-shot. This segment is of the very good variety and is the brightest spot on the first disc. Scene Three brings forth a boy-girl tryst between Krissy Leigh and Tyler Knight in the back of a trading shop. This is a fairly standard, interracial romp with a cum-shot delivered to Krissy’s ass—it is kind of ho-hum overall. For Scene Four, the viewer is presented with an all-girl three-way out in a desert at night. This one features megastars Tori Black and Bree Olson along with Poppy Morgan. Given the talent involved here, one might expect a spectacular scene. Unfortunately, the premise of having the women be members of a cat-like “tribe”—complete with ear-piercing screeches and howls that have apparently been further augmented via effects—is just too much for the trio’s beauty, attitude, and efforts to make up for. Further, this segment drags on far too long and should have been cut down to a more reasonable length. For the good points, there are plenty of non-toy lesbian activities featured here, along with Bree taking a wooden dildo vaginally toward the end. Again, the less-than-good nature of this sequence is more of a reflection on the premise and editing, etc. of the scene than it is on the talent—who do appear to be doing their best and otherwise would have done quite well. This segment ends the sex on the first disc.

The sex on the second disc is much better than that on the first, and the plot really picks up on the second disc, as well. In Scene Five, there is a solid ménage-a-trois between Darryl Hanah, Violet Marcelle, and Evan Stone. Of note here is the nice double-blowjob action that Darryl and Violet put forth on Mr. Stone, as well as Violet’s sexy cowgirl work. A pop-shot to Violet’s face, followed by some oral cock clean-off and kissing between the two ladies, finishes this one off. Scene Six brings forth an excellent boy-boy-girl sequence featuring Amber Rayne, Cheyne Collins, and Sledge Hammer. Amber is truly a spectacular and uninhibited performer, and she shows this here by performing hot dual-blowjob action on the gentlemen—complete with deep-throating, spitting, gagging, and face-fucking—as well as by engaging in some hot anal and double-penetration activities with her partners. Finishing off with two facial cum-shots, this one is truly top-of-the-line. Keeping up this new-found sexual momentum is Scene Seven. This excellent endeavor features an orgy involving Trinity Post, Amber Rayne, and Darryl Hanah with Chris Cannon, Jerry, and Tyler Knight. There is plenty of partner trade-off that goes on here, and by the time that things wrap up, all three women have had interracial sex with Tyler, and Trinity and Amber have both done anal. Also of note in the proceedings is the ass-to-mouth that Amber does on a cock pulled from Trinity’s butt, and the lead-in spanking and candle-waxing of Trinity’s ass by Amber and Tyler. The festivities come to a close here with Tyler popping on Darryl’s bush, Jerry giving Amber a facial, and Chris ejaculating on Trinity’s face / mouth—followed by some cummy-kissing between Amber and Trinity. The final scene—Scene Eight—involves Kayden Kross, Violet Marcelle, and Evan Stone and is also excellent. All of the action here is vaginal, with the ladies taking on both Evan and each other. Of particular note in this steamy sequence is the side-pile-driver pounding that Evan dishes out on Kayden, as well as the cum-shot which hits Violet’s face and mouth and also Kayden’s tummy. It should be noted that between Scenes Six and Seven, there is a softcore, mini-scene involving Amber Rayne and Kayden bathing and frolicking together which is also fairly sexy. In total, the sex on the second disc is much better than that on the first.

In terms of bonus materials and other options, this production delivers in a massive way. To many, the “Special Features”—of which there are two discs’ worth (Disc Three and Disc Four)—may well outshine the movie itself. If one were ever curious as to each and every aspect of filming, making, setting up, etc. a super-high-end adult production, one’s curiosity would be fully sated here. On the first two discs, one finds “Scene Selection” choices and “Audio Selection” choices. The former are as their name implies, while the latter give “Director’s Commentary” and “Dolby 5.1 Surround” options. On Disc Three, there are three “Extended Scenes…”—which put forth longer versions of Scenes Two, Five, and Seven—as well as about an hour and forty minutes of “Interviews”, about 18 minutes of “Bloopers”, about 25 minutes of “Makeup, Wardrobe, and Hair”, a choice of four “You Tube Videos”, a “Music Video” associated with the movie, and a couple of Adam & Eve “Trailers”. On Disc Four, there is an ~2.5 hour “The Making of the 8th Day” featurette, along with an ~25 minute “The 8th Day Special Effects” segment and about an hour’s worth of a “Props and Set Design” sequence. Further, there is a choice of three of “Kayden’s On Set Video Blogs” and another choice of three different “Photo Galleries” that play as slideshows when selected. Finally, there is a “Production Script Download” option that gives instructions as to how to use the disc on a computer.

All in all, this production is about 3.5 stars out of 5 as a porn film—mostly due to the slow start of the plot and its Disc One sex scenes—while it is about 5 stars out of 5 in terms of being a quasi-documentary about itself with all of the bonus materials. Given that most people will likely want to check it out for the main adult feature, it’s fair to weight the “porn film” category more than the “bonus materials” category and go with the 4 stars out of 5 that I am giving it. I would recommend this DVD set to those who are fans of Kayden, sci-fi porn, and—most importantly—those who are interested in the behind-the-scenes aspects of the adult film industry. All said, this is a very solid set.
