Extras: Bios, photo gallery, and previews. Your typical Adam & Eve extras, although the bios weren't nearly as good as some of their others. They don't even show a picture of the person in the bio.
Audio Quality: Although Hi - Fi sound, I thought it was pretty poor. There was very little depth to the sound, there was a lot of background noise and wind noise, and almost every scene was dubbed.
Video Quality: Average to slightly better than average. There's a little grain, but that was probably from the original filming.
Music: Not bad, but it was very repetitive. There were a couple of spots where the music would end and then the same song would start up again. It wouldn't be bad if it wasn't noticeable, but I noticed. In one spot it even sounded like the music recording got stuck and there was a bunch of squealing and other sounds that I didn't really want to hear.
Initial Expectations: From the only line on the cover saying 'Meet Shayla at the crossroads of her life', I'm assuming that this is one of the more biographical adult films out there. I've really enjoyed Shayla in the past, and Bud Lee normally makes a pretty good movie. Adam & Eve, however, has been kind of disappointing in the quality of their older DVDs, so I'm expecting a pretty good movie with a less than average DVD.
Initial Reaction: The movie had nothing to do with Shayla's life, but it wasn't bad. The audio and music were really bad, but the story wasn't bad.
Review: Although I was a little disappointed that I guessed wrong on what 'The 69th Parallel' was about, I wasn't too disappointed. Most of this was due to Shayla and the excellent acting job she did throughout the movie. 'The 69th Parallel' is basically an adult version of the movie 'Sliding Doors' from a few years back. Shayla plays Annie, whose boyfriend is cheating on her with Kylie Ireland and the movie splits into two to show what happens if she catches him and what happens if she doesn't. Shayla does a great job of playing both Annies showing both growing confidence and sexuality in one path and uncertainty and fear in the other. The paths are separated by Taylor Moore narrating and snapping her fingers between the paths. Unfortunately, I'm not sure of who any of the men are in the movie, as the bios didn't show any pictures of the stars.
Down one path, Annie leaves her friend Carol's (T. J. Heart) house she was staying at since she didn't want to listen to Carol and her boyfriend having sex all weekend and comes home early. Her car breaks down along the way and Annie meets Chris, a nice guy who won't even take money for fixing her car. He tells her to give him a call and they'll get together for lunch sometime as payment.
On the other path, Annie comes home to find her boyfriend Paul changing the sheets on the bed. Paul tells her that he thought it was time he helped out around the house a little more. In reality, he's only with her since he's broke. Annie finds Kylie's hair clip soon after, and suspects that he's cheating on her and but doesn't do anything about it. That night, Kylie calls wanting her hair clip back, which Paul takes off Annie thinking she's fast asleep.
On the happy path, Annie and Chris have lunch and start to kiss in the kitchen. Annie doesn't feel ready after breaking up so recently with Paul, and stops him. They go for a walk and have sex on a wood deck outside instead. Later, Chris buys Annie some lingerie and asks to take her to a swinger party. Annie isn't sure about it, but agrees to go once. At the party, she meets her friend Carol.
Back on the sad path, Paul pushes Annie away while she's trying to be sexy so he can read the paper. When she gets upset, he tells her that she should probably leave and go stay with her mother for a while. On her way, her car breaks down and Chris stops to help. She chases him off telling him that she doesn't need help form any man. Meanwhile, Paul has a threesome with Kylie and Elle Devyne, who Kylie met at a swingers party.
On the happy path, Annie watches Carol and Coral Sands start to go at it on the couch. She tells Chris that she's really enjoying the party and they decide to join in the orgy. Afterwards the door bell rings and Annie answers the door to find a shocked Paul outside. Paul begs her to come back, realizing what he's lost, but everybody closes the door on him.
The sex throughout the movie is pretty tame. All girl - girl action is in the group sex situations, and there is very little focus on it. Both Kylie and Shayla seem fairly restrained in the movie. The main problem with most of the sex scenes is that the audio is poorly dubbed in almost every scene.
Raincoat Factor: Medium. It's pretty couples orientated.
Overall: 'The 69th Parallel' isn't too bad of a movie, but it's not anything memorable. It's basically an adult version of 'Sliding Doors' with pretty average sex. There isn't much for extras, but the biggest problem with the DVD is that it has some of the worst sound I've heard. If you're a big Shayla fan (or even a big Kylie Ireland fan), you may still want to pick it up if you can find it cheap.
