The Passions of Carol is a great Christmas film by Shaun Costello. It takes on Dickens' classic Christmas tale and moves it into the adult film world, with surprising success. Passions Of Carol, The (Video-X-Pix) review summaries:

The Passions of Carol is one of the few Christmas theme adult films to come out and despite its low budget is very funny and definitely worth a watch during the holiday season especially if you are a fan of the classics or feature adult films. This presentation is below average for films of the time but sadly this is probably the best we'll ever get released on disc. [read the full review]

Things go from bad to worse for a young woman--the blonde stunner of porno yesteryear, Jean Jennings--when she's committed by her parents to an insane asylum upon being discovered doing drugs with a friend. After finding nothing but rape and torment in the loony bin (...driving her to near insanity in and of itself...), she ultimately winds up in the clutches of a sick, sexual cult run by an evil, perverted "doctor". Clearly, her situation fails to improve, and whether she'll eventually escape--or whether she'll even want to--remains anyone's guess, as the brainwashing and "awakening" proceed. Such is the case in "Defiance of Good", a very good, plot-driven, mid-1970s flick from Armand Weston and VCX. [read the full review]

Defiance (or Defiance of Good) is a dark, relatively unknown, horror-tinged movie from 1974. The central character is Cathy (Jean Jennings), a teenage girl who, after being discovered with drugs, is sent by her parents for psychiatric observation. However, the hospital she attends is a hellhole where she is harassed and raped by her fellow inmates so, when the opportunity to move to another clinic presents itself, she jumps at it. Unfortunately she soon comes to realise that her new doctor, played by a very hirsute Fred Lincoln, is actually closer to a brutal cult leader than a traditional medical practitioner. The film has quite a dark tone and (arguably) some philosophical under-currents but its neither as shocking as Through The Looking Glass or as thought-provoking as The Devil In Miss Jones. Defiance covers some rich narrative ground - bringing to mind One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest, The Story of O and the Manson Family but never quite manages to be as interesting as it should be. There are a couple of nice directorial flourishes but somehow its all rather pedestrian. [read the full review]

Length: 71:50 Year: 1974 DEFIANCE! aka DEFIANCE OF GOOD as it says on the print used on this dvd is a film from 1974 and I went into this film not knowing much about it, excep having read a brief outline of the film and it sounded interesting. The outline to this story is that Cathy (Jean Jennings) a young girl is caught using drugs by her mother and her parents decide that it is best for her to go to a psychiatric hospital for a short period of observation. This hospital is a hell hole and all manner of strange men and women approach her in this place. She is raped by patients (one of whom is played by a very young Jamie Gillis) and the nurses and just when we think she may never get out of this place along comes a doctor who promises to get her out of this place. Fred Lincoln plays this doctor. He does an excellent job as this creepy doctor. He takes her out of this horrible hospital to his private clinic and submits her to his treatment which involves her being tied up and forced to have sex with other patients. [read the full review]

Private Afternoons of Pamela Mann, The (VCA) review summaries:

NOTE: This is not your typical review. Others have done an excellent job reviewing the content, scenes, performances, etc. of this porn classic. This "review" concerns itself with how the DVD's contents compare with the complete, uncut original release version of the film or an early (before prior self-censorship) VHS version. The Ratings given refer either to the "original" version of the film (Performers, Plot, Sex, etc.) or to the DVD version (Extras, Value, etc.) and are relatively arbitrary. The important info is that which follows. PAMELA MANN DVD EDITS After doing a side-by-side, shot-by-shot comparison of the VCA DVD version of Henry Paris (Radley Metzgers) first hardcore porn classic, The Private Afternoons of Pamela Mann, with an old video that appears to have been made from an original release print of the film, it looks like only one major scene, plus a couple of minor recaps including that scene, have been edited and/or shortened for the Pamela Mann DVD. However, the edited scene is a major one, as will be detailed later. [read the full review]
