Woman's Promise, A Review

The film opens with Ivy Wolfe narrating a memory of fucking the prom Queen the the backseat of her car. She was discovered by her mom who made her promise to never see the girl again. Now , in the present Ivy is driven to a remote home where she is greeted by Magdalene and welcomed to the institution called A Woman's Promise. We learn that it is some kind of religious conversion therapy. Magdalene tries to make it seem less threatening by hugging her and telling Ivy she's not sick , only a little confused.

Led inside Maggie says that she's helped many women find husbands and leave their same sex feelings behind. Next Ivy is introduced to Carter who hugs her and tells her that it will be okay. Carter seems upbeat and positive about the therapy. Ivy wants to know what Maggie's deal is - and Carter says that she is actually pretty cool. She claims that Maggie had her own troubles but ' overcame them'. Carter gives the new arrival a little rundown of the other girls and assures her that she will fit right in.

Cut to Abigail Mac and Sabina Rouge ( who is called Paige ). Sabina is brushing Abi's hair and they gossip a little about the happenings around the house. Maggie is seen watching them talk and when the two reach for each other the matron steps in to stop them gently and remind them that it's time for lights out.

Later on Abigail moans in her sleep and wakes Sabina who is immediately concerned for her roomie and moves over to her bed to comfort her. The friends are soon kissing and breaking the rules but don't seem at all interested in slowing down. Sabina feels Abi's chest through her bra and eases her back down to a laying position. Sabina kisses Abigail's legs but Abigail sits up to help remove Sabina's shirt before it goes further. Abi leans in to lick and suck Sabina's tits. This scene is fucking awesome! One of the best things I've reviewed in a long while and quite possibly my favorite SHV scene I've seen period. It's going to be a hell of an opener to try and follow - yet I think with some of these superb camera angles achieved in this case I couldn't be more intrigued.

Twice in this scene I saw some of the best cunnilingus close ups I've witnessed during the whole year of reviews I've done so far in 2021. Abigail Mac was really getting it in here and Sabina looked to be loving every tongue stroke and nibble. This is 100% why it pays to not pass up older releases. Knowing I am behind in terms of the calendar often has me wondering if I should just scrap stuff and go current — but if I had then I would have missed what I think is almost perfection.

The lighting , the girls bodies , this was flat out beautiful stuff. I feel completely justified in saying that this scene alone makes this movie worth getting. All told it was 36 minutes but it had the benefit of feeling longer.

So many of the little things worked here. The way the girls whispered to each other and tried to be quiet , staying in character and trying not to get busted in the act of their lovemaking. I'm having a hard time finding fault with much of any of it. A superb scene from start to finish and one I will watch again for sure.

For some future pairing suggestions I would recommend Laney Grey or Evelyn Claire for Abigail Mac , and as Emma Hix or Silvia Saige for Sabina Rogue.

As a fan who always wants more I would certainly endorse a repeat of this pairing as well. I'm honestly having a hard time finding much to fault in this one and am happy give it a much deserved A+ score.

Scene Two - Zoey Taylor & Lyra Law

Scene two picks up with more narration from Ivy as she is dealing with adjusting to her new surroundings as she goes for a run. She is greeted by the door outside by Sabina who seems a little flirty , but really wants some reassurance that she won't say anything about what she saw that morning. Ivy says that she didn't see anything. This pleases Sabina and they head back into the house together.

Maggie leads all the residents in a group therapy session. Carter starts and again seems upbeat. She mentions she is glad about her new roommate but admits she still has issues when thinking about what she did to get sent here. Carter says that she knows that what they did was unnatural and adds that she also worries that her friend Aidra might feel that Carter abandoned her and more that she thinks it might not have been wrong . Magdalene says that the honesty from Carter is a good sign. Abigail talks about how she's doing better at forming a more traditional female relationship and it's different than how she would handle it in the past. Once more Magdalene is happy at this.

Sabina shares that she is having dreams about an Angel she has sex with. For Sabina its not something she's ready to feel shame for. She gets carried away describing it and her orgasms and Maggie stops her and tells her they will work on it more in private.

Zoey Taylor is next and she says she's working on focusing her fantasies on male partners and admits it's a struggle. Magdalene thanks Zoey for the effort. Lyra Law follows this up by describing her own feelings and confusion.

Finally we get to Ivy who tells the group about being caught with the prom Queen and how she loved her. Ivy says it all only made Ivy more whole and right. She states flatly that she doesn't feel guilty about it. Magdalene realizes this is going to be a tough case.

Later that evening Ivy and Carter chat about how things are going and Carter tells Ivy that she is the only person to check herself in voluntarily and she understands that no one else would be here if they weren't placed by family. Ivy confirms that she did come to please her mom , but adds that it's hard to imagine going home now that everyone in her small town heard the news. Carter tells Ivy that being around others going through the same problems can be a comfort.

Cut to Lyra and Lyra's room where she is suffering a migraine. Zoey enters and says everyone else already went to bed and Lyra asks her to sit with her a while. Zoey agrees but says she will leave in the morning.

The sun falls and rises again and Zoey and Lyra wake up next to each other. They begin to kiss softly and quietly. Lyra's top is pushed up and Zoey kisses her chest. This slow makeout shot through with morning light looks pretty great. Zoey's shirt comes off next and Lyra leans in for some light sucking. The girls flirt a bit and Lyra is stripped of her shirt and shorts. She kisses breasts and peels off Zoey's panties to feel her ass with both hands.

More light kissing and Lyra lays back and spreads her legs open for Zoey who goes down to lick her delicately. The camera does drift up here to show Lyra's face and tits though the rubbing is the best part in my opinion. Zoey's dark red painted nails make really set the visual off for me. Zoey then leans in to eat Lyra from behind. This is zoomed back a little so the tongue contact isn't quite in focus but I do love the intimacy of the way the lovers lock fingers and hold hands here. This was another fantastic scene. I really think that this is some next level directing from Ricky Greenwood. The combination of the right close ups and the absolutely stunning use of natural light and shadow is incredible.

Both Lyra and Zoey are under appreciated stars in my view and sadly neither seems active on social media these days so I don't know if they'll see this review. That is really the only reason I regret being behind on my to-review schedule. Still this scene is a great example of why it pays off to watch older releases if the cast or plot jumps out as potentially great.

The kissing kept up at a near constant between positions. The pacing was handled really well from the early cunnilingus to the grinding , the 69 and the final pussy eating turn.

There isn't much I would change about this scene , other than just draw out specific positions for longer. At 39 minutes though this was still lengthy enough to not feel shortchanged overall.

Because of both stars apparent absence from social media I can't say wether any dream pairing ideas will be useful. Still , I like to live in hope that we'll see these babes again. For Lyra I would suggest Ana Foxxx and for Zooey Taylor I would nominate Penny Pax.

This has been a wonderful first half. As a story it's compelling and you can't help but feel sympathetic for the characters. An A+ score is looking like a real possibility .

Scene three starts with Magdalene telling Ivy that she's happy with how open she was in the first group session. Still , Ivy won't be cowed into believing she's done wrong. What's more , Ivy says that she is ready for life to be difficult. But love is more important than simply avoiding hardship and conflict. Maggie dismisses her newest charge by reminding her to present herself as more classically feminine to earn privileges around the house.

We see Ivy again relaxing in nature and reflecting on everything. She's still clear about her thoughts and thinks she knows what she's got to do.

Back inside Maggie is in a one on one with Carter who says she thinks she's going to be past all this very soon. Magdalene asks about Ivy and when Carter says it's going great , Magdalene presses on and suggests that Ivy is very attractive - even letting slip in that she herself is tempted by the new girl in ways she hasn't been in a long time. Before Carter exits the room Maggie swears her to secrecy.

Later on Carter is alone and clearly struggling. Overwhelmed with emotion she sneaks off to use the phone and calls Aidra , asking her to stop by the ranch , after midnight.

Cut to Aidra's midnight arrival and a nervous Carter ushering her inside and Carter confessing that she tried to convince herself of lies that their relationship didn't mean anything. Carter can't do it anymore and she says that Aidra is the most important person to her. Aidra wants her friend to be sure - she can't have her run away again. Carter says she's never been more sure of anything as they kiss for the first time, standing in the dark.

In the bedroom Carter lays back and pulls Aidra down on top of her as the makeout intensifies. Carter takes her glasses off and we see her push Aidra's plaid skirt skirt up to feel her ass. Carter's shirt is removed and her bra is pulled down so Aidra can suck a tit. Aidra also licks her lovers neck sensually between kisse. The kissing in this movie has been really good the whole way , but for me even saying that , this scene was a step up in that regard. For one thing the kissing was nearly constant. Even in other positions the kissing kept up.

Once more , I was struck by some enchanting lighting choices and a handful of what I consider to be perfect close ups of pussy eating ( and even one instance of this with analingus ) where Carter buried her face in Aidra's butt.

I of course want those masterful angles to be held longer - but I have to give a ton of credit for at least getting these artful zoomed in looks at the best parts of lesbian sex for me The tongue or mouth on pussy moments that I just want burned into my memory for all time. There were also so many other beautiful little moments of eye contact and bodies under gold and or blue light. I don't know if this movie won any awards ( I guess it would have been at the 2020 shows ) having released in 2019 but I really think it is / was deserving. It's been visually spellbinding.

The story has been well done and compelling too. I think that this was my favorite so far because of the sweet confession and heartfelt beginning to sex. It really set a tone of tenderness that I just find irresistible.

The circumstances of all these encounter set ups being hidden & forbidden has been handled really well too. Since they have all been in secret to start we have plot continuity and reasoning for them to be at night and the early dawn hours. This is probably hard logistically but man does it work to set a mood and atmosphere. I applaud that attention to detail and feel like it's even more consequential because it has led to the uniquely great backdrops

As for dream pairings I don't know if Carter is officially done shooting but ever the optimist I'll at least offer the hopeful pairing suggestion of her and Emily Willis. For Aidra I would pick Kira Noir and Natasha Nice for future partners although to be honest any matchup for these two will get me excited to watch.

At almost 40 minutes the little bit of extra time really comes close to that ideal length for me. It had the added benefit of feeling a bit longer than it actually was too , something I think happens only In especially sensual scenes. I'm hard pressed to complain about anything here. Truly great work all around.

The fourth and final scene opens with Ivy waking up to find a note from Carter who has left. Carter has realized that accepting herself is the only way forward. Ivy gets dressed in a huff and Magdalene enters to read the note for herself. She thinks that Carter leaving was Ivy's fault somehow. Ivy is ready to run too and Maggie begs her to at least stay and talk it out before making a final choice.

Ivy agrees if only to give Maggie a piece of her mind. She yells at the ' caretaker ' when they are in Magdalene's study. Maggie tries to explain that she's really not a bad person. She admits that Ivy is the first person who has made her question her feelings in a long time. Ivy wants to know how anyone with these feelings could create such a repressive place.

Magdalene tells Ivy her story. How as a young woman she thought she was in love until she was rejected by the other girl. When she found her husband he was so understanding and good to her she thought that after he passed she would be helping others if she made this place to fix herself.

Further Maggie confesses that she dreams about Ivy and she scared Carter the other day out of jealousy, believing that there was something between them. The two hold hands during this Maggie says she was ultimately afraid of rejection. Ivy stands and stares into Maggie eyes asking if this is what she wants , kissing her for the first time. Maggie moans softly eager and wanting as the makeout gets harder and more desperate. Magdalene cradles Ivy's head and caresses her skin.

Ivy's top is pulled down from her shoulders and Maggie whispers about how she dreamt this very thing. Ivy's shirt comes off first and Maggie leans in to kiss her chest. This was a fitting and fine finale to an amazing movie in my opinion. It's so rare to see Magdalene these days even though she was at one time almost certainly the Queen of mature lesbian stars. It makes since though if she's gone into semi retirement from studio shoots because she has always seemed to have a really dedicated fan base , so that I think she most likely does really well with personal content sites. I do have to say that Maggie has still got it for sure. Her figure is still great and she of course never lost that trademark passion for pussy. I wonder if getting her to sign on to this was a special case ( she doesn't seem to have credits for SHV beyond this film ).

The sex here was once more A+ quality stuff. The up close cunnilingus shots were some of the best in an already steller release. I found the chemistry between Maggie and Ivy to be very hot. The way they sucked clit and moaned while giving as well as receiving really added some nice heat to the action.

The expected shortcomings of shooting most of a scene in a chair were almost totally mitigated by those good camera angles. While the lighting wasn't as much of a factor in this encounter there was a very good example of natural light when Ivy first laid back in the chair while being eaten out.

This finale was a little shorter than the rest of the pairings clocking in at 35 minutes ( with about 5 being spent on lead in ). Still everything included was high quality.

Some dream pairing ideas for Ivy would be Sera Ryder and Sabina Rouge. Given Maggie's uncertain status now any dream pairings would probably rate as long shots at best , but I would still like to suggest Whitney Wright and Alex Coal , just in case Magdalene is ever back at SHV someday.

The story wrapped in a satisfying if predictable way. I understand and agree with the happier ending that was used here. Still , I do wish there were longer segments here that detailed Maggie's character struggling. We did get a small bit of dialog in scene three, which shows that characterization was considered beyond what many would do. But it still seemed maybe a bit abrupt when Maggie went from antagonist to secretly in love. I'll have more to add the conclusion but I do want to give credit for offering a plot that carried some emotional heft and didn't just lean on one of the many established series. I wish there were more scripts like this floating around.

Final Thoughts and Suggestions:

This is a modern masterpiece for me. One of the best lesbian films I've reviewed in recent memory. I'm a little surprised that I don't recall it getting a lot of buzz I'd love back in 2019 when it came out. I like the theme and character portrayals for sure. I wrote repeatedly about the fantastic camerawork , the awesome close ups and beautiful lighting. This combination all came together to complete a film of tremendous polish. Add to that an unforgettable cast and a script that dealt with some modern issues in an interesting way and you have a classic worth every point of the near perfect grade.

In the time since this came out I do know that a similar theme has been explored in AHL's 'Path To Forgiveness ' . But honestly I think that gay conversion therapy is still relatively fresh ground for drama in porn ( provided it's handheld with care ). I have tried similar settings in pitches before with different tones that skewed more toward light horror. Ricky Greenwood is actually working with AllHerLuv now , so It might not be out of the question for a merging of the minds on this kind of story at some point in the future. And although I realize it's a little contrarian to suggest such a thing after lauding a movie for not falling into the same old feel of series work - but as a fan of long form entertainment , I can't help but wonder what a multi part series with a similar setting might be like.
