The Movie |
White Slaver is a one-day-wonder feature-style roughie adult film from an uncredited director. The premise of the film is that three slavers (two men and one woman) kidnap women and take them to sea for their buyer. While at sea, the slavers have their way with the kidnapped women. The plot exists only as a matter of convenience to set-up a series of rape scenes and be able to call the film a feature film. There isn't any attempt to make the plot develop into anything at all.
Once White Slaver gets into the sex scenes, the film becomes essentially a wall-to-wall all-sex film until the end, at which point an ending is slapped on the film to finish the pretense that White Slaver is a feature film. The sex scenes in the film are ugly; even the consensual ones. There isn't any eroticism to be had anywhere within the film. The sex scenes just appear to be insert tab A into slot B and get the film out to the cinemas as fast as possible style adult film.
The issues don't just lie with a substandard plot and poorly done sex scenes. The whole film is a mess from start to finish. The film opens with an arduously long sequence of footage that shows the boat leaving the marina. The whole film is poorly shot, not that the cramped quarters of the boat helped with the shooting, however, there wasn't any attempt to even show the slightest amount of competence in overcoming the issue. All-in-all, White Slaver is a poorly done, easily skippable film that really has nothing of value to offer the viewer.
The Edition |
The edition of White Slaver screened is the streaming-only edition available from Vinegar Syndrome on Exploitation.TV. Vinegar Syndrome has done a decent job with their streaming-only edition of White Slaver. White Slaver was shot on film and it looks like Vinegar Syndrome has used a film print for this release and White Slaver is presented in the Academy aspect ratio of 1.33:1. The image presented in the release has artifacts, print damage, and jumps. There is one point where it looks like there is clear tape on the print. The colors in the film are decent. The image quality isn't amazing but is also far from horrible.
White Slaver is presented with an English monaural audio track which isn't in the best of shape. There are pops, crackles, and hiss present throughout the film. There are some jumps in the audio. The dialog in the film can be hard to discern at times.
Vinegar Syndrome hasn't included any extras for their streaming-only release of White Slaver.
Final Thoughts |
White Slaver is a rather poor and obviously thrown together feature-style roughie from the early 1970s that seems to want to impress the viewer with the fact they had a boat than with well-done sex scenes or any sort of attempted plot. Not even die-hard fans of the roughie genre will likely enjoy White Slaver. Vinegar Syndrome has done a decent with White Slaver with their streaming-only edition available on Exploitation.TV with decent video and acceptable audio quality.
