Initial Expectations: Nicholas Steele frequently bores the heck out of me. Even with the talent here, I can’t help but expect it to happen here as well.

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects start things off on a high note with an anamorphic widescreen transfer. The scenes are nicely lit, and the video barely has any grain. There are a couple moments where the camera moves a little fast, but that’s the closest I can come to having a complaint about the video. The audio is much the same way, with the exception of the final scene. The audio is normally nicely balanced, but the music is often a little heavy to cover up any blemishes that might be there. There are a couple background noises, but they’re pretty minor and almost fit into the movie. The final scene is quite different, and held back by the background noises overtaking the balance as well as a bit of scratchiness.

Music: Saint provides the music, which is almost always a very good thing. He goes with a soft and romantic feel here, but works in some of the electronic dance feel as well. It’s often a little on the loud side, but not so much as to completely interfere with things.

Menus: The main menu does a pretty good job working together the boxcover, a little animation, and a bit of the movie. The chapter menu is extremely generic and lets you choose a scene based on a small clip of each scene and a scene number.

The Feature

When Randy finds an ad in the back of a magazine offering a weekend getaway to relax in the great outdoors, he convinces Darren and Lee that they should head there rather than just hanging around doing the same old thing during the weekend. Little does he know, his ex-fiancé Jewel has found the same ad and has convinced Temptress and Jade to go on the same weekend. When they find that they’re booked for the same cabin, neither side backs down and they end up having to share it.

Scene 1 - Flick Shagwell and Evan Stone

While hiking through the great outdoors, Evan spots hot brunette ranger Flick. He helps her across a stream and kisses her while groping her tits standing on some rocks near a small waterfall. Scene 3 - Dru Berrymore, Ian Daniels, and Randy Spears

Smoking hot brunette gets the double pleasure of Randy and Ian in front of a roaring fireplace. The anal seemed to just get started, and seems even shorter with Dru only taking the anal from Randy. This had the potential to be a much better scene than what it was.

Scene 4 - Temptress and Lee Stone

When brunette Temptress, who’s looking darn hot in a tank top and short jean shorts gets lost, she stumbles across Lee. They recognize each other from the laundromat he goes to, and after she leads him on a little chase they kiss by the pool. They gradually strip down and exchange oral favors, with Temptress really going above and beyond the call of duty throating all of Lee’s cock. This is another nicely done scene. The setup between Lee and Temptress is nicely done, and helps to establish some great chemistry between them. The chemistry continues throughout the entire scene, and before the blowjob was even done I could remember why I looked forward to movies that listed Temptress in the cast. This is a very nice scene with great passion, and easily my favorite scene in the movie.

Scene 5 - Jade and Darren James

When Jade finds Darren working on his fishing pole, he finds out soon after that he’s working with the wrong pole. They kiss their way across each other before Jade drops down to suck Darren’s dick. This is a very nice couples sex scene, and does a great job of showing that anal sex can have a very nice place in the couples market.

Weekend Getaway is a pleasant surprise of a couples movie. As usual with Nicholas Steele, the story is simple and revolves around conflict in a relationship. Jewel and Randy do a nice job showing both the hostility after the breakup and the longing for what was once there. That longing for love comes out nicely in the other performers as well and gives the scenes a very human basis that works just because of its simplicity. The only scene that really didn’t work for me was the lesbian scene between Jade and Jewel, which tried to bypass that. The high point, on the other hand, was Temptress and Lee’s scene, which was just primal and hot as heck. I often rail on Nicholas Steele for being overly soft, but with Weekend Getaway he manages to do it right. Weekend Getaway is a nicely passionate couples movie that shows that you don’t always have to dumb down sex and see how soft you can make things for a well done couples movie.

The behind the scenes featurette lasts about twenty three minutes. After most of the cast introduces themselves, Temptress talks about working with Lee before Randy has a few words. Evan is next, and as usual, provides more than a little humor as he talks about the rough life of a porn star. Jewel, as usual, doesn’t hold anything back as she talks about the problems on set with Jade, and they both make it pretty clear why I’ve never really heard of her. Nicholas Steele adds a little as well, and there’s more than a few comments from the crew as well. There’s also plenty of fun on the sets and a bit more thrown in from the cast. The only real problem with the featurette is that the audio is often poorly balanced. I could barely hear Jewel during her interviews, and some of the others weren’t much better. It’s too bad because it really holds back what could have been a great behind the scenes featurette.

Bonus Scene 1 - Nikita Denise, Gina Ryder, and Ian Daniels

The first bonus scene comes from Color Blind and features Nikita Denise and Gina Ryder taking on Ian Daniels. Gina starts out treating him, with the action quickly turning to kissing and caressing between the three of them. Currently, many of Adam & Eve’s DVDs can be found online for between about $8 and $25 with several stores offering them for around $15. This one’s well worth the money if you’re looking for a good couples movie. The movie’s simple but has plenty of chemistry. The technical aspects are nicely done, and definitely helped out by Adam & Eve caring enough to give it an anamorphic transfer. Finally, there’s some nice effort put into the extras. This is a very nicely done DVD.

Note to Adam & Eve: With movies like this it’s easy to see why you kept Nicholas Steele around so long. Thank you for caring enough to give your widescreen movies an anamorphic transfer even back when this movie was released. It’s sad that some of your major competition hasn’t caught up to you there.
