The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects are very good, especially for the age of the feature. The audio is very clear and well balanced, and I don’t think I heard a single background noise. The video is also pretty good. There’s a little grain to the feature, but it’s consistent and the entire feature is nicely lit.

Music: The only music on the entire DVD is during the strip tease and the story segments, and although I’m not positive, I think it’s the same music used in the tease segment in most of this series.

Disc Complaints: There’s a pair of commercials for Digital Playground at the start of the feature that you can’t skip past. It’s extremely annoying, and something that’s always annoyed me about Digital Playground’s DVDs.

Menus: The menus have kept with the usual format for this series. The main menu features Tera standing and waiting while you make your choice on the menu below to start with. The sex selection menu then works itself around the edges of the screen with icons so large that Stevie Wonder could probably see them if he didn’t have those dark glasses on.

The Feature

Since she first emerged on the adult scene, Tera Patrick has been turning heads. Her combination of exotic looks, perfect natural breasts (up until she hacked them up recently when she abandoned her contractual obligations), an easygoing personality, and a great ass seemed perfect for almost everybody. Here, Joone and Digital Playground bring her to your DVD player so that you can feel like you’re taking her on yourself.

Digital Playground and Joone give you plenty of what you’ve come to expect from this series. Of course there’s a strip tease as well as a bit of story time where Tera talks about what she wants in a man, her first sexual experience, and her most erotic experience. You also get a little of foreplay, and can choose between working Tera over with your fingers, a dildo, or giving her a bit of oral. For sex you can start things out with a blowjob or move directly to fucking her missionary style, doggie style, or regular or reverse cowgirl.

The sex is all very nicely done. The loops last between about three quarters of a minute and a little over three minutes, with most of them lasting roughly two minutes. Unlike in many other releases, the loops all end very close to where they began, so if not for the player lag of restarting the loop you might not even know it restarted in many cases. Normally the main view you get is a POV view, but for everything other than the strip tease or story segment you also have an alternate angle. In the foreplay segments the alternate angle is normally a close-up of the penetration while the alternate sex angles either give you a side view or a close-up. Just as important, each of the alternate angles is a true multiple angle rather than giving you something that makes you wonder if Godzilla or Mothra is going to appear onscreen at any moment. Tera helps things out a bit more by adding a bit or emotional range between the innocent and naughty moods, and adds some nice trash talking into the naughty mood. There’s plenty of cries of “Fuck me like a whore” in the naughty mode, and it comes across much more naturally than the innocent mood.

The pop shots have always been one of the most important things about a virtual sex release. In some cases a computerized pop shot was used, which normally started out bearable and ended up extremely cheesy. Here, fake pops are mixed in with a real pop. The real pop comes in the form of a facial with the blowjob, which Tera takes extremely well. The rest of the pops are a faked wet pop, which I prefer much more than the computerized pop. It’s a little thicker and creamier than a regular pop, but in several cases here I had to do a double take to see if it was a real pop or not. Sometimes it looks fake, but in several cases it looked almost as good as the real thing and helped out the overall feature.

The biggest problems with this release come courtesy of Digital Playground. First there’s the black background. At the time of this release Digital Playground was working towards a technology which hadn’t been released yet. If I recall correctly, however, it had a major release at the 2003 Adult Expo, and I haven’t heard of it since. For current releases this is a drawback, as other companies releases have much more personality, but here I’m letting it slide because Digital Playground was still working towards something bigger. Another problem is Digital Playground’s icons. Yes, they make it easy to make a selection, but they’re also extremely intrusive and not always that clear. Finally, there’s a minor loop problem. When you select the orgasm parts of a position, it keeps looping through the orgasm rather than returning to the action. Since some of these segments aren’t even fifteen seconds long it can get extremely annoying. Just as annoying is that this problem still occurs in current Virtual Sex with... releases.

Virtual Sex with Tera Patrick is an excellent virtual sex release. Tera plays to the camera extremely well and the moods show a nice difference. She also looks gorgeous and the looping is done in such a manner that you could keep watching a certain position without noticing much difference. Finally, the pops are nicely faked and add a lot to the release. Virtual Sex with Tera Patrick is an excellent DVD that holds its own against and even surpasses many of the virtual sex releases several years after its initial release.

The Extra Stuff

None. I guess some people consider the stories and tease extras, but with how the DVD is presented I consider it part of the feature.

The Bottom Line:

Currently, most of the Virtual Sex With... series can be found online for between $20 and $35 with many stores offering it for under $25. If you’re a fan of virtual sex features or Tera Patrick this one should be at the top of your list. The virtual sex is done very nicely and Tera plays to it very nicely. The technical aspects are also nicely done although there isn’t really anything worth mentioning for extras.

Note to Digital Playground: The only bad thing about this release is that when you compare it to your current releases one doesn’t really see much improvement.
