Initial Reaction: It’s not quite what I expected, with a few nice ideas and a few things that stick out as being fairly weak for Evil Angel.

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects very well might be the worst I’ve seen and heard in an Evil Angel release. The audio is pretty well balanced, but there are quite a few background noises. The video is the main weak point to the movie. There’s a fair amount of grain and pixelation and the lighting varies quite a bit through the movie as well. You even get to see things like John Stagliano waving the camera over to notice different things.

Music: None

Disc Complaints: If I remember right, there are under five Evil Angel releases that don’t have a time stamp that allows you to easily go anywhere in the movie. This is one of them. I’m not going to whine about it here because I know that it was a fluke and something that Evil Angel tries their best to avoid.

Menus: The main menu is pretty well done with a bit of nice animation. The chapter menu feels a bit dated, but nicely lets you choose a scene based on a small clip of each scene and the name of each lady in the scene.

The Feature

Tristan shows up at Evil Angel with Ernest Greene to meet with John Stagliano to see about making a video companion to her book The Ultimate Guide of Anal Sex. John has more than enough on his desk already, but agrees to produce the movie if Tristan can get Ruby, who’s never done anal, to be in the movie. After getting Ruby to agree, Tristan teaches about anal sex with the help of several more than willing volunteers. Tristan talks about anal sex stereotypes, anatomy, communication, and goes through many other subjects relating to anal sex.

Scene 1 - Ruby and Tristan Taormino

The Ultimate Guide to Anal Sex For Women leaves me with mixed feelings, quite possible because I went into this one with very high expectations and was expecting a heavily instructional movie. In reality, there’s very little instruction in the movie. Out of a movie running roughly three hours, I’m really not sure if there’s over a half hour of instruction. This is good and bad. It wouldn’t be bad if there was plenty of heavy instruction about anal sex, but instead it’s fairly light and breezy without even a good anatomical discussion. Amazingly, I think that more time was devoted to discussing how the enema worked than any other aspect relating to anal sex. It also wouldn’t be bad if the anal action was completely kick ass. Sadly, I didn’t think it was. That’s not to say that it sucks, as it certainly doesn’t. It does a very good job making anal sex look like a natural progression and friendly, and that’s only helped by Tristan’s chatting with the cast about their anal experiences. Unfortunately, the group scenes often seem lopsided, there’s a few places where the footage is noticeably repeated, and the editing and camera work throughout the entire movie is fairly rough. With the camera work it’s almost more unusual to see part of John Stagliano and his camera in the field of view as it is to just see the performers, and there’s even times when you see him pointing to things going on between the stars from across the room so they don’t get missed. As for the editing, I felt like I was watching a movie that was meant to be significantly longer that was chopped down to meet the time requirements. There are some times when it isn’t too noticeable, but there are many other times when it’s all too noticeable such as when you go from seeing Tony Tedeschi pile driving Ava Vincent’s ass right to Tony popping on Inari’s ass from behind as Ava watches from below. Not all of the editing is that bad, but it’s still common enough that it often through me out of the action. As an adult film, The Ultimate Guide to Anal Sex for Women is a nicely done feature with some good anal tips. As an instructional feature, however, I found it lacking much of the time. How well The Ultimate Guide to Anal Sex for Women works for you will probably depend on what you go into it looking for. It’s not a bad movie, but it seemed far from being an ultimate guide to me.

The behind the scenes featurette lasts thirteen and a half minutes. John Stagliano seems to be behind the camera for all of the extra footage, which is nicely presented in glorious black and white in the non-anamorphic (boo!) format. There’s plenty of footage which was cut from the movie, with the action feeling both like it was freshly cut from the movie as well as from behind the scenes. It nicely shows plenty of personality and fun as well as showing just how scripted the action was. It’s a nicely done behind the scenes featurette that’s every bit as enjoyable as the movie.

Currently, most of Evil Angel’s DVDs can be found online for between about $18 and $30, with a few stores offering them in the $20 range. I’d aim low here. There’s some decent information here, but it gets drowned out by the action. It’s held back a bit by the technical aspects, which aren’t even close to Evil Angel’s normal quality. There’s not much for extras, but what’s there is nicely done. This is a good DVD.

Note to Evil Angel: Although I had some problems with this one, it’s great to see you trying something like this. I really hope you do more instructional type movies.
