The Specialist is Ricky Greenwood's second project for MissaX — the first being Forbidden Desires. The Specialist is a vignette-style feature film — a feature-length movie that contains a set-up and a sex scene. A format that Missa X, the writer of The Specialist, does very well on her platform.

The set-up for The Specialist is that Marie Bloom (Ashley Lane) has pain during intercourse. She and her husband Alan (Codey Steele) have decided she should see Dr. Todd Spear (Stirling Cooper), a sex therapist/gynecologist. Dr. Spear discovers that Marie has an imperforate hymen. The two elect to have Dr. Spear fix the issue, and Dr. Spear has Alan wait in the waiting room while he performs the procedure on Marie.

The Specialist is a subtle comedy that can be very hard to pull off, especially in porn. However, Ricky Greenwood has been very successful with comedic films — like A Lesbian Christmas Story — in the past. Ricky Greenwood pulls it off again in The Specialist. What makes The Specialist so successful as a comedy is it doesn't rely on in your face humor.

Instead of sight gags, you get the humor of Alan Bloom, in the waiting room, hearing his wife's ecstasy, but every time he goes to enter the exam room, the receptionist (Able Godshark) prevents him. Another fun aspect is watching Alan's reactions, as Dr. Todd Spear describes his inadequacies. The way the humorous elements, such as these and more, are presented, the viewer can't help but laugh. The way the cast handles the non-sexual material was also vital to The Specialist working, which the outtakes show wasn't always easy.

The sex scene with Ashley Lane and Stirling Cooper is excellent. Ricky Greenwood manages to use the exam room to its full potential for the sex scene, slowly working the action up in intensity instead of just going into the action head-on. Ashley Lane and Stirling Cooper give great sexual performances as well.

Ricky Greenwood has yet to disappoint this reviewer. And, true to form, Ricky Greenwood doesn't disappoint with The Specialist. The Specialist is fun to watch from start to finish and is highly recommended viewing.

The Specialist was shot digitally and is presented in the anamorphic widescreen aspect ratio of 1.78:1 in 1080p. The picture quality of The Specialist is excellent. The colors in the movie are excellent, and there aren't any noticeable issues in the image. There is a MissaX bug in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen.

The Specialist is presented with an English MPEG AAC Stereo track. The sound has some issues. For some reason, the left audio channel has the dialog at a higher level than the right audio channel. This causes an unbalanced feel to the sound. The dialog in the movie is clear and easy to understand at all times.

MissaX has included an extra for The Specialist. There are two-minutes of outtakes following the movie.

The Specialist is a fantastic vignette-style feature film from director Ricky Greenwood and writer Missa X. The movie manages to blend subtle comedy with a great sex scene perfectly, and, as always, Ricky Greenwood doesn't disappoint.
