Initial Expectations: Wicked is one of the most consistent studios out there for releasing high quality DVDs. I always go in with high expectations, and they’ve rarely disappointed me.

Initial Reaction: It’s a nice little piece of fluff, but nothing too special.

Who Should Watch It : Anybody who wants couples friendly porn without much plot

Who Should Avoid It: Raincoaters and anybody who wants a lot of plot or more extreme sex

Audio /Video Quality: Wicked is well known for having one of the best transfers around, and The Spa isn’t any different. The audio is clear and well balanced without any signs of dubbing. The video is much the same way, and continues clearly out to the edge of the screen.

Music: The music is very well balanced with the rest of the audio but feels kind of like it was made about ten years ago. Oddly, this kind of fits the feel of the overall movie.

Menus: As usual, Wicked has put some great effort into making their menus fun and unique. The main menu has some nice animation and the chapter menu lists the scenes by a short title and a small clip of the scene.

The Feature: Bob Chinn has been known around the adult industry for several decades, with his best known movies being the Johnny Wadd features that made John Holmes a household name as soon as the kids were put to bed. He directed The Spa for Wicked, which appears to fill the space between Wicked’s contract directors. The movie revolves around a ritzy spa where everybody gets pampered and relaxation in more ways than are advertised.

Stephanie Swift starts things off with valet Erik Everhard under the cover of paying her for her monthly space. Erik dives into Stephanie’s pussy as she lays back on the couch and then stands up for Stephanie to mouth his member while giving him some great eyes. Stephanie starts out riding Erik reverse cowgirl before letting him pound her pussy from behind. He finishes up giving Stephanie a nice dollop of dick droppings on her face while vigorously jerking himself off. It’s a pretty good scene thanks to some amazing energy from both Stephanie and Erik.

After showing Tina Cheri some new hairstyles, Brick Majors tries to show her that he’s straight, or at least bi, by kissing her and then working her body over. He moves on to her man made mountains and then down to tongue and finger her muff. Since he’s in the mood to serve her, Brick doesn’t bother having Tina suck his cock and goes right to work fucking her missionary style and then finishing up with an implied internal pop. It’s a hot scene with some great chemistry. Tina isn’t one of my favorites, but does a great job here. She looks better than normal, which might be partially due to her keeping her bra on for most of the scene.

Stephanie Swift returns, this time to hook up with massage therapist Devin Wolf. She gives him a mouth massage, and then goes directly to letting him fuck her missionary style. Since we know where Stephanie was beforehand and what she was doing, it’s probably much better than letting Devin go down to munch on her box. She moves on to ride Devin cowgirl and then take some of his pop on her tongue. It’s an okay scene that has good chemistry and energy, but still seems to come up a bit short. Most of the reason is probably because this scene is intercut with Devinn Lane and Gauge gettin’ it on.

Gauge offers to show Devinn Lane a thing or two, other than how to clip coupons and the best place to sell hubcaps. Devinn blindfolds Gauge and then moves down to lick and finger Gauge’s pussy. Gauge returns the favor, licking and fingering Devinn first from behind and then in front as Devinn holds her leg up for her. As happens with many lesbian scenes, it ends very abruptly which holds it back from the normal high quality of Devinn’s scenes.

Tina Cheri and Brick return again, with Tina holding Brick back from giving a perm. She starts out on her knees giving him an oral argument to stay with her before bending over his counter so he can nail her from behind. He ends things with a bunch of jerking and a worthwhile helping of man juice on Tina’s ass. It’s a very short scene that has some good energy once again. I would have preferred that this scene would have been put together with the earlier scene to save the fake pop, but with the chemistry between them, it was also nice to see a little more of them. Once again, the scene can’t stand alone and is intercut with another.

Meanwhile, Billy Glide pays a visit to Temptress in the sauna. I’m not one to give motherly advice like YogaGrrl, but this is one best left to the movies. It can be fun, but is also one heck of a health risk. Temptress drops down to check Billy out, and then really checks him out. After getting him warmed up, Billy gets Temptress to melt as he tongues her twat. She continues to lay back on the bench as Billy fucks he, and the lets him fuck her from behind. Billy finishes out stuccoing Temptress’ chest to end things, which was almost a shame. Temptress and Billy appeared to be really into each other and had great energy as well. Temptress had a hard time not speaking without four lettered words or her eyes coming out of her head, which seems like a good sign of a great scene.

Dale Dabone takes one for the team next by taking on Regan Starr and Alexxxis Tyler, neither of whom look that appealing even after a bit of alcohol. Regan has her hair mostly in small braids and has a face that seems to beg for the question of “Paper or plastic?”. Alexxxis has a slightly better face, but has all of her hair in braids which does absolutely nothing for me. Regan starts out sucking Dale’s cock while Alexxxis watches and then joins in when they hear somebody coming other than themselves. After getting Dale all the way warmed up, Alexxxis gets in the middle so she can eat Regan while Dale fucks her from behind. He mounts Regan missionary style and then pops on her face so he can get over to the bar to get over it. It’s an okay scene, but would have been better if I would have had a lot more to drink beforehand.

The Spa is not your typical Wicked movie. Rather than having the artistic vignette, the screwball comedy, or the dark serious movie, The Spa is basically a piece of fluff. This might disappoint some people, especially since Bob Chinn has been known for making some fairly classy movies for a long time, but as a piece of fluff it’s nicely done. There’s no real plot here, just a few strings hanging around that give the feature a bit of a framework. In many ways it reminds me of the porn of the early nineties. You know whenever two people meet they’re probably going to fuck, and the cast seems to have fun with it. There’s some good energy to the scenes, as well as decent chemistry, and it helps the feature to work. The biggest problem is that several of the scenes are cut together rather than letting them stand completely on their own. Stephanie Swift easily leads the cast, but Temptress and surprisingly, Tina Cheri, aren’t too far behind. Although The Spa isn’t close to any masterwork of porn, it’s a nice little diversion that should get the blood flowing to all the right places.

Extras: Wicked has included a pretty standard offering of extras, although there are a couple special ones. Trailers are included for The Kissing Game, Hell on Heels, Flashpoint, Double Feature!, The Bride of Double Feature, Dream Quest, Knockout, Pornogothic, Satyr, Sex Safari, Vengeance, and Working Girl. Wicked’s standard audio bios are included for Stephanie Swift, Temptress, Devinn Lane, Tina Cheri, and Devin Wolf. There’s also company information, the Wicked Casino, Wicked Web, promotional material a commercial for the Free Speech Coalition, and a listing of Wicked’s award winning and nominated DVDs. The photo gallery for the main feature lasts two minutes with six seconds per nice looking framed photo, but there’s also star galleries for Stephanie Swift, Temptress, Devinn Lane, Regan Starr, and Tina Cheri which include photos from other movies. There’s also the Easter Egg of Slammy getting a freebie.

Most importantly, however, is the All Access: Behind the Scenes on The Spa, which is captured by the great director Red Ezra and lasts about sixteen minutes. As usual, it provides a nice mix of the scenes being shot with what else is going on around the set. Ezra also shows off his great rapport with several of the cast members, all of whom are identified as they take the screen, by getting some nice banter going with them as they get ready and in between takes. It’s a nice behind the scenes featurette that adds a bit to the overall DVD.

Overall: Most of Wicked’s titles can normally be found online for between $22 and $30 with many stores offering them for about $25. Although kind of fun and brainless, I’m not sure if this one is going to get a lot of replay, so you might want to rent it first. As usual, the transfer is excellent and Wicked has included some decent extras to raise the overall DVD quality.

Note to Wicked: Although not the greatest adult film ever made, this was a fun little flick. It’s nice to see you adding a little variety to your line with this one.
