Silver Screen Confidential Review

I was actually looking forward to this movie. I had liked "Blue Movie", and had wanted to see Jonathan Morgan perform, so I decided to go with Silver Screen Confidential. Was it worth the look? Not really.

The Movie: First off, this movie is horribly directed. Some would say that since it's porn it doesn't need to be well directed, but the problems with the direction seem to really hurt the sex scenes. Everything is shot so close that you almost get hypnotized by the testicles flying by on the screen. Plus, when all you see is the insertion, you loose a lot of heat, missing some of the reactions you would have gotten if the camera had pulled back. The only exception to this was the scene with T.T. Boy and Jenna Jameson. You can tell those two love working together, and the scene generates decent heat. Now, I'm not saying the sex is bad, it's just so badly shot that things just get kind of dull. There are five scenes total, three guy girl, one girl/girl/guy, and one guy/girl/guy. The only time there is anal is during the guy/girl/guy. This was also filmed before Wicked became condoms only, and I spotted condoms in only two scenes. The group scenes suffer the most.

The movie itself is decent, but again, poorly handled. If Jonathan Morgan or Brad Armstrong had directed this it would have turned out much better. The problem with the movie is that it lacks any kind of style. It's a point, shoot, fuck, talk film. It would have been fine if that's all it wanted to be, but it tries to be funny, and the cast tries to work with it, but in the end, they all loose out because any performance they gave wasn't captured all that well. The leads, Jonathan and Jenna, do very well though, and have very good comic timing. Davia Ardell does a good job as well, but she is hard to understand at times. Still, she has the right look for the part, and you can tell she was trying her hardest. She earns points for effort. Everyone else also does a decent job with their characters, and Scotty Shwartzman does a pretty funny bit as the studio head.

The title is very couples friendly, not to plot heavy, and sometimes funny. The only problem is that it seems like it was shot by a blind two year old with a camera. Oh well. Not all of the movies can be winners.

Tech Stuff: This is an older movie, and looks it, but still has a very crisp picture, and the sound is stroung, being in 5.1 Surround. There is one thing though, and this is more to blame the editor for. It seems that there are a few spare frames in certain scenes that pop up, and cause the screen to flash slightly. It looks like the editor didn't cut close enough, and the result is sloppy.

Extras: Wicked did a very good job with this one. You get the usual material (bios, trailers, and the like), as well as a Blooper reel. There is no behind the scenes video, but there are behind the scenes stills, and you get a good idea of the atmosphere on set with the bloopers.

Over All: I really can't recommend this movie. The direction is terrible, and over all it falls flat in the sex department as well. Fans of Jenna should check it out just for completion, but everyone else should probably look elsewhere. There are much better porn comedies out there, with much hotter sex, and better jokes and direction. I would recommend something from Jonathan Morgan. Double Feature has the cheesy 50's atmosphere, and is very funny. I would have to give this one a pass though. To bad, it looked decent.
