Initial Expectations: I’ve had very mixed results from NuTech’s anime features, so I’m not really sure what to expect here.

Initial Reaction: It’s different, and really leaves me unsure of whether I liked it or not.

Who Should Avoid It: Anybody wanting something soft, fun, and cartoonish

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The audio is nicely done. It’s clear and well balanced. The video is also clear, but the animation seems just a little primitive.

Music: The music is nicely balanced with the rest of the audio, and has a fairly cinematic feel.

Menus: The main menu is long, and almost acts as a trailer for the feature before the selections come up. The chapter menu is pretty standard and lets you choose a scene based on a small clip of each scene and a title for the scene.

The Feature

Kyouchi heads a prostitution ring that’s known for catering to specific pleasures, namely young girls. When Youri is rescued on the street by Kyouchi she finds herself taken into the business and learns that each encounter is videotaped for possible future use by Kyouchi’s lover. Kyouchi’s lover sees that Youri feels something for Kyouchi, and places a bet with her. She sets Youri up as a working girl and tells her that if Kyouchi really loves her, than he’ll come to her rescue.

The sex starts out with a customer who wanted a young girl and gets Ayaka. Ayaka calls him “Daddy” and makes him bark like a dog before giving him a little head. He eats her before she sucks his cock and he pops on her face. Ayaka rides him after he pops, but doesn’t get anything else out of him. Later, new girl Youri is tested out by the boss’s lover before being put with a client. She resists as he fucks her, crying out for help as well as crying, and finally takes his pop on her face. After a little head from Ayaka, Kyouchi takes on Youri himself.

The sex is really a mixed bag here. Most of it is a little disturbing, as it deals with some obvious pedophilia and rape, but at least the pedophilia is treated playfully, which makes it much easier to watch. The rape, however, is as disgusting as the actual act, and I was about to start fast forwarding if it lasted any more than it ended up.

Shojya Koakuma Kei is a different animated feature, and I’m really unsure what to think of it. The idea that runs through it is decent, but it really feels rushed. It’s poorly developed, and I think that if it were done over three or four parts, like most of the anime features NuTech’s released have been, that it would have been much better. Even the sex is a bit confusing and rushed. There’s five scenes here, but only two of them are full scenes. A few more parts could have easily extended these out to make them feel more complete as well. Shoyja Koakuma Kei is a decent idea that doesn’t get close to fulfilling its potential.

The Extra Stuff

The photo gallery lasts about two minutes with about six seconds per good looking full screen photo. There’s also weblinks and the B-side of the DVD is filled with trailers for other NuTech anime releases.

The Bottom Line:

Currently, most NuTech Anime DVDs can be found online for between $11 and $25 with most stores offering them for under $15. This seems a bit high for what you get here. The feature’s okay and there’s a decent transfer, but there’s not much for extras. At under a half hour I have a hard time justifying the pricetag to buy this one, but it might be worth a rental.

Note to NuTech Digital: Although the price is fairly low, it would seem like a half hour feature on one DVD would leave room for a decent extra or two!
