Initial Expectations: With Brad Armstrong behind the camera and this kind of cast in front of it, it seems impossible to go wrong.

Initial Reaction: It’s one of the best features I’ve seen from Brad Armstrong in a long time, and a great Wicked DVD.

Audio /Video Quality: The audio is clear and well balanced, but there are a couple moments when it seems close to maxing out. The audio is a little rougher in the background of the commentary, but still plenty clear. The video has a soft feel that works okay for the feel of the movie, almost like the feature was actually shot on film. It’s not overly artistic, but there are some soft touches that don’t interfere too bad.

Music: The music rests extremely quietly in the background. There were times I actually had to listen specifically for the music to tell if there even was music.

Menus: The main menu is very nicely done and has a nice lead in that you can easily skip by hitting the menu button again. The chapter menu lets you choose a scene based on a small clip of each scene and a title for the scene.

The Feature: Nearing the end of their senior year in college, Professor Mike Horner assigns his class their film project, namely making a movie. Joel Lawrence, Devinn Lane, and Lezley Zen decide that since the line between mainstream and porn is blurring so much, that they should make a porno. After getting through casting calls and making the film, they run into problems when the Professor learns what they really did.

Joel Lawrence starts things out with sweet thang Jenna Haze in a dorm room. Jenna kisses her way down to Joel’s cock, which she sucks and strokes while giving Joel some amazing eyes and playing with her pussy. Joel lets her move onto his cock for a little reverse cowgirl before fucking her from behind and sliding it into her ass missionary style. Devinn Lane takes on Shay Sweet and Nicole Sheridan in the locker room for the third scene. Lezley Zen and Devinn Lane stay late at Lee Stone’s audition to help him on his lines, among other things. She frequently sits on Lezley’s face, but gives Lee a little pleasure too (as long as she can maintain a three foot safety perimeter from his cock). She doesn’t have much contact with Lee, and never touches his cock, but she never feels like she’s left out of anything. Lezley also does her usual great job, especially when you learn in the extras that she was pretty sick while shooting this. I’m not quite sure why Lezley Zen hasn’t been used in many leading roles yet.

Julia Ann seduces Dillion Day in order to get him to give her his soul, in the movie Joel and Devinn are making. Julia climbs up to sit on Dillion’s face before sliding down to suck his cock. She lets him fuck her from behind, and then works with him through a few other common positions before stroking and sucking him until he comes all over her face, going from her chin up into her hair. It’s a hot scene with very nice energy and good chemistry.

Of course, every successful adult film needs a group scene, so Devinn Lane, Julia Ann, Stephanie Swift, Nikita Denise, Lee Stone, and Dillion Day get busy in Hell. While Nikita takes Lee Stone all the way down her throat, the other girls work on Dillion. Of course, things get plenty mixed up once they get going, as the two groups work into three couples. They break back and forth a fair amount, so all the girls get a bit of dick, except of course for Devinn who’s more than happy with all her toys. Of course Nikita takes a good ass pounding, and finishes things up with a nice facial as well. Julia also takes a good facial, and brings the scene to a nice end. It’s a very good group scene that moves along and around very nicely. Stephanie Swift disappears during the scene, but there’s enough heat around the scene that I barely noticed. It’s a well done group scene with a nice balance and nice energy.

Finally, Lezley Zen takes matters into her own hands and mouth to persuade Professor Mike Horner. She gives him some nice sucking and stroking in the dean’s office, along with her usual great eyes, and finishes things up with a nice facial. It’s a short oral scene, but has some nice heat to it. Lezley’s one of the best cocksuckers out there, and makes this one work very well.

Sex on Film is one of the best movies I’ve seen from Brad Armstrong in quite a while. That’s not to say that I don’t care for Armstrong’s movies, as I think he’s one of the best directors out there. It’s just that this time around everything seems to click exceptionally well. The story is well written, and blends in some nice humor to keep it feeling light, in addition to being well acted. Joel and Devinn play extremely well off each other in the non-sex roles, and smoke in their sexual scenes as well. As with many of Wicked’s features, there isn’t really a bad or boring scene in the entire feature. The closest thing I can come to a complaint about the movie is that I don’t really care for the soft feel to the video. It did annoy me a couple times, as it had me doing a few double takes to see whether somebody was in hole number one or two. Sex on Film is a great adult movie that works in almost every way.

Extras: Once again, Wicked appears to be going all out on extras. As usual you get promotional materials, weblinks, Wicked Casino, company profile, listing of award winners and nomination, and a commercial for the Free Speech Coalition. There’s also trailers for The Kissing Game, Vengeance, Knockout, and Pornogothic. Audio bios are included for Devinn Lane, Stephanie Swift, Julia Ann, Nicole Sheridan, Nikita Denise, Shay Sweet, Lezley Zen, Joel Lawrence, and Brad Armstrong, all of which include a little personal information, a few photos of the star, and a link to one of the star’s scenes.

There’s also plenty of photo galleries, each of which lasts roughly two minutes. In addition to the main photo gallery, there’s a behind the scenes gallery and star galleries. Devinn Lane, Stephanie Swift, Lezley Zen, Nicole Sheridan, Shay Sweet, Nikita Denise, Julia Ann, and Jenna Haze each have a star gallery. There’s also The Girls of Sex on Film, which is a six minute featurette that basically shows the photo shoots. It’s a nice featurette that many might enjoy more than the actual photo galleries. It’s nicely broken down lady by lady, and has a nice and artistic feel.

Brad Armstrong and Devinn Lane team up to give a commentary for the feature. It’s a decent commentary, but there’s much more dead air here than normal. Much of the dead air is during the sex scenes, but Devinn and Brad do a good job talking about the sexual parts too. It’s a nice commentary that works pretty well due to the great chemistry between Devinn and Brad.

The bloopers, blunders, and backstage bullshit featurette lasts about three and a quarter minutes. There isn’t much for bloopers and blunders, but there’s plenty of backstage fun. It’s a really fun featurette that’s well worth checking out.

Interviews are also included with Joel Lawrence, Devinn Lane and Lezley Zen, Cronin McDuffy, and Randy Spears. Joel talks with Brad Armstrong for about a minute and a half about hit place in the movie. Devinn Lane and Lezley Zen team up for about three minutes to talk about their scene with Lee Stone, working together in the movie, and working in the adult industry. Cronin McDuffy takes about two and a half minutes to talk about his first speaking role and the possibility of doing a sexual role in the future. Finally, Randy Spears talks about a minute to talk about the cast and his role in the movie before Devinn talks about wrapping up the movie. It’s a nice selection of interviews that’s well worth checking out.

Finally, there’s the almost forty minute All Access: The Making of Sex on Film with camera work by Mark Stone. As usual, everybody is nicely identified as they take the screen, which is one of the things I love about Wicked’s behind the scenes features. It nicely mixes the scenes and photo galleries being shot, which are often narrated by Devinn or Brad, with the actual movie. Plenty of great stuff from that happened behind the scenes away from the shoot is also captured, and really makes this a great feature. You get a great feel for many of the performers, which is part of what I love about featurettes like this.

Overall: Currently, most of Wicked’s upper crust of DVDs can be found online for between $19 and $28 with many stores offering it near the lower end. This is more than fair for what you get here. The movie’s great both sexually and overall, and there’s plenty of extras. The video is a bit soft, but the audio is well done.

Note to Wicked: I hope you dump the soft video soon to go back to a better transfer.
