Initial Expectations: This is my first Andrew Blake film, but I haven’t heard a bad thing about his films. I have, however heard horrible things about Caballero’s transfer.

Initial Reaction: Wow. Now I know why there is always a tone of reverence whenever Andrew Blake’s name is mentioned. The transfer definitely leaves a lot to be desired, but I’ve seen a lot worse.

Audio /Video Quality: The video is better than I expected, but the audio is much worse. The video is very soft and slightly grainy. I don’t know why, but it worked for me. Maybe it added to some of the artistic feel. For some reason, I don’t think a crystal clear picture would have been as good for ‘Secrets’. The audio, however, was horrible. Every sex scene was dubbed, and most of them poorly.

Music: The music varies throughout the movie, but it’s well balanced throughout the entire movie and doesn’t detract from the movie at all. In many places it adds to the sexuality of the scene.

Review: ‘Secrets’ is one of those rare adult movies that considers plot an extravagance we shouldn’t bother with, can still be considered a great porno. In ‘Secrets’, Ashlyn Gere plays Christine, who heads a call girl service where if you have to ask how much you can’t afford it. As the movie begins, Nick (Rocco), one of her top clients, gets a phone call and rushes out of her limo. We don’t know why he rushes off, but if he’s leaving a partially naked Ashlyn Gere in a limo, it’s gotta be one dang good reason! Ashlyn starts to tell of her business. This is the only dialogue in the movie, and also the only connecting thread (and I do mean thread) between the segments that follow.

Ashlyn first flashes back to one of her many moments with Nick in a very nice house with windows all around. The foreplay is great here, as Ashlyn starts by touching herself and smelling her panties (luckily she doesn’t pass out). When Ashlyn and Rocco start to move further, the action takes place on a modern style recliner (I guess you’d call it a recliner). Not wanting to give up on Ashlyn’s amazing oral skills, he fucks her mouth a few times before entering her pussy. Throughout the scene, somebody is watching from outside and snapping away with pictures. From some of Ashlyn’s comments, it appears that she may be having the pictures taken to blackmail her clients in the future.

As we return to Ashlyn in the limo, she’s wearing a fur coat and fucking herself with a diamond bracelet. I’m not sure, but maybe this is one of those secret cleaning techniques that wives don’t let their husbands know about. So much for toothpaste. After she’s cleaned off her bracelet, she tells of how some of her clients would ignore the girls. We switch to Zara Whites looking through a telescope at Randy West’s home. Randy is surrounded by Danielle Rodgers, Valerie Stone, Fallon, and one other who I’m not sure of. All of the action is between Randy and Danielle. The other girls surround them and masturbate. Zara masturbates as she watches the entire thing through the telescope, and much of what we get to see is limited by the telescope as well. This gives a really great voyeuristic effect to the entire scene. Later in the scene, Rocco comes up behind Zara and goes to work on her pussy and asshole with his tongue and fingers. He even fucks her from behind as she watches Randy and Danielle. After Danielle finished Randy off on her chest, Zara returns Rocco’s favor. I had only heard of Zara before and had never seen her in action. She’s amazing!

Ashlyn then tells us that we wouldn’t believe who some of her clients are. Cut to Samantha Strong and Peter North, who is apparently a high ranking Naval Officer, as he has several Top Secret documents in his possession. Like the other scenes, this was great! Samantha works over Peter and gets the Peter North full body creamy treatment. My only complaint on this scene was that it was way too short. After Samantha cleans herself off, she gets Peter a glass a champagne and drops a pill in it. Peter is out shortly after taking the drink, and Samantha leaves with the Top Secret documents.

Ashlyn tells of how she loves to play her clients games as well. Her German friend Petra (Jeanna Fine) really knew how to play games, especially role-playing. Jeanna dresses as a man and greets Sabre at the door. She gives her a gift of a dildo, proving that Santa isn’t the only one who knows if you’ve been naughty or nice. Of course, it’s easier when you know the person is a hooker. Throughout the scene, Jeanna uses the dildo as her cock. It makes for a little twist on the scene, as Jeanna is never treated as a woman. Her pussy never gets any attention, only her “cock”. To add to the effect, Jeanna even cums on Sabre’s pussy. It’s true. You can’t fake a cum shot, but Jeanna does a great job trying.

Ashlyn knows of her clients special likes and dislikes as well as their games. Thomas (Jon Dough) is a studio executive who has a thing for virgins. Ashlyn tells of how she trained Sunny McKay special for this client. Andrew gives us some beautiful visuals in this scene. Sunny as always is cute and innocent as can be, but this time has a white lace veil in her hair. The entire scene is very tender, as many would be with somebody on their first sexual experience. The entire scene takes place outdoors, with much of the action on the grass. Anybody who wants to see how an outdoor scene is done should watch this one. Believe it or not, the worst thing about the scene was the cum shot. Not just because it meant the end of a great scene, but because in started looking like a nice facial and most of it missed Sunny completely.

Ashlyn also has several foreign clients. The girls especially like working for the sheiks, as they normally just like to watch. I have no clue who the guys playing the sheiks are, as there aren’t actual credits and the guys are covered up too much to tell for sure. Apparently the sheiks don’t like toys either, as Nina Alexander, Nichole (Nikki) Wilde, and Krystina King work on each other without any toys whatsoever. The girls fo a great job of working each other over anyway, and the sheiks appear to like it also, as they throw hundred dollar bills on the girls as they work.

Back in the limo, Ashlyn has finished off the bottle of Champagne she was drinking as she told us about the last few scenes and proceeds to fuck herself with it. She also tells us how much Rocco liked Ashley (Samantha), especially after she helped him get some documents for some of his foreign friends. Samantha turns over the Top Secret documents to Rocco, and Rocco gives her his own special thank you. Since Rocco is a major client, Ashlyn came along to make sure everything came out alright, and proceeds to join in with Samantha and Rocco. The heat in this scene shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone.

Finally, Ashlyn greets another of her clients personally, thankfully with Zara Whites along for the ride (no pun intended). This time, the client is an older gentleman who looks sort of like former Attorney General C. Everett Koop. He presents Ashlyn with a riding crop and sits back with a glass of champagne to watch the girls work. It’s really great to see someone at the top of a company come down to work with some of the little people. It gives me such faith in America. This is what America is all about. People working together. It’s a bonus that the women working together happen to be hookers played by Ashlyn and Zara. The crop is used very little, and unfortunately, no sound is heard from it. The scene ends with the three of them on the balcony drinking champagne.

Back in the limo, Ashlyn finds out why Rocco ran out on her. The two of them are on the front page of the paper with an article on how Rocco’s wife sent a private detective to spy on him and caught him with a call girl. As we see things get even worse for Ashlyn, the movie ends. There are no more secrets for now.

Andrew Blake’s vision in ‘Secrets’ is amazing. The only complaint I can make is the dubbing of the audio. As I said earlier, there’s a very soft feel to the entire movie. It doesn’t have the usual crystal clear picture that we’re used to with DVD. As much as I didn’t like this at first, it added to the artistic feel of the movie. It was originally shot on 35 mm film, and each scene is so artistic that you could probably use 9 out of 10 frames as a still. Not just an average still either. These are the kind of scenes you see in the really high class magazines. It’s beautiful.

Finally, thank you to the RAME website. Most of the actresses in ‘Secrets’ were unfamiliar to me. Your site was a great help in figuring out who each of the actresses were.

Extras: Photo gallery, a list of other Caballero releases, and a phone sex number. All in all, pretty disappointing after a movie like ‘Secrets’.

Overall: You can currently find ‘Secrets’ for between $10 and $27 with many stores having it for under $15. For $10 (even for $15), don’t think twice about picking ‘Secrets’ up. It’s Ashlyn at her best with a gorgeous supporting cast and great sex. Sadly, the DVD as a whole leaves much to be desired.

Note to Caballero: Please figure out how a time code works. It was nice to see that there was one for this film, but they normally go for the entire length of the movie, not just the individual scenes. You have a lot of really great classic movies out there. Please give them the treatment they deserve rather than treating them badly so that they’re buried due to the current treatment.
