Initial Expectations: Adam & Eve normally does a very good job with their Premium Collection movies, so I have pretty good expectations here.

Initial Reaction: It’s pretty typical Nick Orleans, which I like!

Who Should Watch It : Couples who don’t want a plot, but want tastefully and artistically done sex scenes

Who Should Avoid It: Anybody wanting down and dirty, trash talking, ball slapping, ass stretching sex scenes

Audio /Video Quality: The audio in the sex scenes is normally dubbed, but the video is also normally slowed slightly. This leaves two options, dubbing, or having the women sound a little deeper than James Earl Jones. As much as I dislike dubbing, I think it’s a highly preferred option here. The video is very soft. It’s almost a smokey type look to many of the scenes. I hesitate to say grainy, as the entire movie has a very soft feel to it, and the video feel matches it very well.

Music: The music is done by Saint, which to me is a wonderful thing. Saint has a very sexy style, and is very easily recognized. It’s a sexy mix of techno, the standard porn music, soft piano music, and many other styles, depending on the mood of the scene. It’s frequently a little overpowering, but that’s also some of Nick Orleans’ style.

Menus: The menus are simple, with only a minor bit of animation, but nicely done. The chapter menu lets you jump to either a scene, based upon its theme, or the pop shot in the scene.

The Feature: Ashton Moore starts out The Scent of Passion talking about gardens and flowers, and how they’ve been known for sexuality for a very long time. As Nick Orleans frequently does, this is the framework for the entire movie. Nick is one of my favorite directors, and is well known for making very tasteful, couples friendly raincoater style films. He’s almost always very artistic and tasteful in his scenes, but the overall movie isn’t known for having a strong plot or storyline. The main theme of this feature is flowers, with Ashton Moore giving a short commentary on flowers as she walks through the garden which opens up each scene. Through each of the scenes, the flowers also appear, and break apart some of the segments of each scene.

John Decker starts things off with Ashton Moore. Ashton is spread out on a couch in an sexy evening dress, and John, dressed in a tux, approaches her and starts to kiss her all over, undressing her as he goes so he can kiss her naughty parts. Ashton thanks him with a slow, soft, sensual blowjob complete with many glances upwards. Ashton turns around to invite him to completely seal the deal by fucking her from behind, giving a great view of her wonderful ass. Unfortunately, some of the following scenes aren’t as nice, as they show from below just how implanted Ashton is. It’s not his best feature, but still well done. It’s biggest problem lies in the style. Mr. Orleans normally slows down the action slightly, which makes dubbing almost a necessity. Many times this doesn’t matter because the camera only focus on one person, or doesn’t focus on their face much. This time around, it does both quite a bit, mostly focusing on the woman’s face, which makes it very noticeable. For me, as well as many others, this ruins the fantasy, or at least sullies it quite a bit. It’s not enough to ruin it, as it’s beautifully shot and passionate, but it’s not as beautiful as it could be.

Each blown up photo normally lists the stars in the photo, and allows you to move forward and back through the photos as well. It’s one of the nicest done photo galleries I’ve seen.

Finally, there are two bonus scenes, which you might have also seen on the Emerald Rain DVD. The bonus scene lasts almost a half hour and actually includes two scenes. Evan Stone introduces the first scene and takes some about Dinner Party 3 (now called The Fiesta), which he’s currently filming. Briana Banks stops in to get a soda and ends up talking about her part in Dinner Party 3. Of course, everybody has problems looking Briana in the eye, and it turns into a fun sex scene. Once again, Briana shows the ease at which she can deep throat Evan Stone. They kiss a little and then move right into the main event. It’s a little rougher than normal for an Adam & Eve scene, as Evan pins Briana’s arms behind her while fucking and also chokes her a little. Technically, it isn’t as good as a normal scene, but you normally don’t expect the bonus scenes to be that good. It’s not bad, but the light is very uneven and the audio is a little off balance at times. She does a great job of sucking the cum out of Evan’s cock for a nice ending to the scene.

Evan Stone introduces the second scene as well, and talks some about making Emerald Rain, or Tears of Eden as it was called at the time. Overall: Currently, The Scent of Passion can be found online for between about $14 and $25 with only one store offering it for under $20. At the lower end, this is a great deal. The sex is artistically and romantically done. It has the added value of a nice transfer and some decent extras. It even holds its own pretty well against the average price of $20 a DVD, although the dubbing does hold it back a little.

Note to Adam & Eve: Thank you for giving Nick Orleans’ images the transfer they deserve. Your extras are coming along very nice. It might also make a nice extra on some of these older releases to have a short interview with Nick Orleans and one of the leading stars.
