River Patrol Review

Released back in 1995 and just recently returning again to dvd, River Patrol truly stands up as a classic! It has been re-released as the “Directors Expanded Edit” which from what I could tell there is about 35-40 minutes of scenes that have been extended. For those of you who don’t own this be sure to pick it up! For those of you who already own it, I really don’t think its worth buying another copy, even for the commentary which is really the only extra to be worthwhile. This won an award from the Adam Gay Video Directory when it was released too! You can read my previous review for all the juicy details but here I’d just like to add some new comments.

This dvd is still first rate with great camera work, hot men and plenty of action and I can’t believe 7 years have gone by since its release! Time flies when you’re jerking off! Ha ha. Anyway, I hadn’t watched this in years and still found it to be quite enjoyable. A little rough at times but still a turn on!

Anyway, after watching most of the flick, jumping from scene to scene I decided to check out the commentary which is provided by Bruce Cam (director), Brian Mills (still photographer), and Cliff Parker (actor). Cliff’s the one that gets pissed on in the beginning and fucked over by York Powers. As I watched the scenes it was pretty fascinating to hear the three of them discuss various aspects of the film, behind the scenes, and so forth. I didn’t realize that this had been Titan’s first feature and became the benchmark for future releases. They’re style they say is “friendly aggression” which hits the nail on the head if you’ve seen their productions! And they wanted to feature “real” men not all “dolled up” in makeup and to use a lot of natural lighting in the outdoors. A notable tidbit was the scene with the hot, adorable Sean Rider in the hot tub. They had put dry ice in to make it more steamy and overdid it a bit. As the extended scene was playing it was rather funny to see it then. I probably never would’ve thought to notice otherwise. But the commentary features all little neat behind the scenes things such as that and was rather fun to listen to.
The dvd also features a nice “music image gallery” which is basically a slide show but done much better then most with soothing, sensuous music playing. There’s also a cumshots feature.

Overall highly recommended as are the majority of Titan’s features. They’ve been a favorite of mine and I always look forward to their new releases!
