I've seen a ton of lesbian scenes over the years, and most of them are bad. But even the good ones are a performance: they look like those old cartoons where the wolves and the sheepdogs would punch timeclocks in and out of their shifts. I have no trouble imagining a lot of these girls walking in with a lunch box, punching a clock, and nodding at the sofa in the corner of the basement and asking someone "who am I fucking this time?"

Abby Winters likes to go a more realistic route. It consistently manages to get the reality and energy of amateur performances while using high-end production values. The result are performers who look like women you meet in real life, doing what appears to be something they'd be doing even without a paycheck, and having the time of their lives. They don't play to the camera, they play to each other.

The price is that you don't get a lot for your dollar. Their nearest competitor, Girlfriends Films, tends to put four scenes on a disc; Abby's lesbian videos usually have two. This one features their busty, redheaded superstar Chloe B. double-teaming olive-skinned Kiki and brunette Larissa, and lasts about an hour (not counting a fifteen-minute afterward). The second feature puts Kara and Keilyn in a 45-minute two-some, plus a five-minute "backstage" bit.

The other thing that separates this from an equivalent by Girlfriends Films is that AW doesn't go in for stories or scenarios. Chloe B. doesn't answer the door to let Kiki come in and sell her cosemetics. The scenes start with the girls dressed and ready to go. There seems to be a real-world friendship, or at least a connection between them, so that the sex that follows seems real and naturally progressing, rather than simply following a script or the orders of a director off-stage. It takes the cynical "who am I fucking this time" out of the scene entirely.

Special Features: Both features end with a "backstage" or afterward segment, but they're accessed directly from the features page. They aren't called bonus material on the disc. The first feature's bonus is about 15 minutes, the second's is only five. The "extras" on the menu are just ads for other Abby Winters titles.

Production values: up to Abby's usual standards. Video and sound are clear, clean and bright. Each scene has two chapters so you can skip around a little, and each scene is easily identified on the main menu so you can easily find something you fondly remember. As with other AW titles, it looks as if it were made by people who want to buy their own product, by people who care about what they do, rather than slapping together another movie to make the day's quota.

A nice touch this time is that they named all the chapters (e.g. "Kissing," "Oral on Chloe B.," "Fingering Kara D.") so it's easier to find exactly what you want. The many chapters also makes it easier to skip around while watching.

Final verdict: I could write a page of "you'll be dehydrated from cumming so much" type of stuff, but frankly I don't care. After watching a lot of bad porn that's shoddily made, slapped together with no expectation of a repeat sale, it's a joy to watch something that's really well done. This is as good as lesbian scenes get.
