Riot Sluts Review

Platinum X Picture's Riot Sluts is director Mason's latest entry to the rough sex category. On some of the Internet message boards, there has been discussion about a woman making a movie such as this. Personally, this is a non-issue; I really couldn't care less about the race/sex/age/nationality/zodiac symbol/blood type of the director, as long as hot girls have hot sex, who look like they're having a good time.

Another cloud of excitement that surrounds this film is Ariana Jollee's much-ballyhooed interracial debut. As I really don't care about the cock color, this is another non-issue for me. However, I'm curious to see if these actors can render Mason's artistic vision into something visually appealing and strokable. There's no plot in the 133 minutes of Riot Sluts; each scene is a separate rough sex vignette featuring some tough cookies.

Scene 1: Gia Paloma & Katrina Kraven

Mason (the camera) catches Katrina pissing boy-style (standing) in an alley. She and her bad girl pal Gia bash a car's windows then start with some rough girl-girl action. With her wife-beater tanktop, beer (which she sprays out on Gia), and tattoos, I guess Katrina's the dominant one while the little Latina's outfit is more of leather bondage lingerie. Gia's mascara is already smeared as she licks Katrina's clit and finger fucks her pussy. Gia is begging to be rimmed by her girlfriend. A clear silicone dildo makes an appearance and is soon being pumped into Gia's mostly shaved slit. There's a little dildo throat fucking, spitting and slapping, but there's nothing here to interest me. Scene 2: Ariana Jollee

Mason interviews Ariana as the latter smokes a cigarette, reiterating the bad girl theme. Despite the nighttime filming in a dark alley, Ariana looks pretty sexy, especially her delicious pussy. Ariana leads us to a warehouse and unveils a black guy in bondage gear chained in a cage suspended from the ceiling. Ariana's the dominant one, slapping around her captive. Two other mulattos show up in the warehouse and Ariana's first interracial action begins with a double blowjob of the two newcomers. There's a lot of spitting and gagging, but Ariana is one who can really handle this. As the guys start pounding her pussy, it seems like her time as the dominator will be limited in the future. Scene 3: Mandy Bright

Scene 4: Katrina Kraven & Erik Everhard

Katrina is bitching about her luxury hotel room. It's not a luxury $500/night hotel: there are a bunch of scuff marks on the edge of her desk (okay, so I'm a little distracted). Erik shows up to remove her room service table, but the lack of a nice uniform ticks off Katrina. These two are pretty hardcore, so I'm expecting the action to be pretty good, despite the fact that I'm not a major fan of Katrina's looks (or her unpleasant screen persona for this movie). Erik plugs her pussy with his trademarked velocity. I'm not exactly sure how I feel about Erik smothering Katrina with a pillow, but she is mercifully quiet for a moment. Despite their ability to handle each other physically, I am not too sure about the real photogenic quality of the sex between them. After a number of positions, Erik finally blows his load into her mouth and she acquiesces that the hotel isn't so bad.

Scene 5: Kami Andrews & Brandon Iron

Kami pulls up into a garage in a black Mercedes-Benz. Hey, I must be really into this film because I'm looking at the wheel rims and the vehicle size and thinking that this is a riced-out mass-market C-Class (maybe it's Brandon's). He doesn't care as he shoves several fingers into her ass and subsequently into her mouth. She does her best camel-toe floss imitation which ends as Brandon rips through her panties to show off her puffy pussy lips. She gets wrapped up in her own fishnet getup as she gets face fucked. He tosses her in the car trunk, drops a big load on her face and closes the trunk.

The movie closes out with about three minutes of behind the scenes interviews.

Production Values

This movie is well shot; there are some shots that have a distinctively gritty feel, but I'm thinking that those were deliberately done that way to enhance this movie's hard edged theme.

At the time of this writing (July 2004), many titles from Platinum X Pictures display an abnormal chroma shift. The fancier your A/V equipment, the worse it is. The unwanted effort often appears as a multi-colored halo and is not tied to MPEG-2 decoder or video DAC circuitry; most likely, it's an encoding error being introduced very late in the production process, possibly in the final DVD replication. This chroma shift is quite slight in Riot Sluts and not something that affected my opinion of the film.

Much has been made of this shortcoming, but it appears that folks at PXP have acknowledged the problem and are taking measures to rectify the situation. Only time will tell if they're successful, but it would be a shame if their disc quality cannot be brought up to the quality of their best competition.

DVD Extras

The Making of Riot Sluts (36 min.) - this generously long extra is a combination of behind the scenes interviews and photo shoots. The actresses seem to be genuinely enthusiastic about their participation in this film, so their comments are a little more revealing than the normal fluffy behind the scenes fare.

Mason Interview (17 min.) - this is an audio only interview; throughout all the various interviews, it's clear that the actresses were full aware of the type of sex that Mason was looking for.

Photo Gallery - There's a submenu that presents each actress as a separate gallery -- a thoughtful touch.

The obligatory Trailers and Website Access page round out the DVD extras.

Summary

Through the behind the scene interviews, I'm impressed that the collaborators of this project are genuinely proud of their involvement, but I'm not convinced that everything captured on tape is visually appealing. Ariana is my favorite actress in this film, so unsurprisingly her scene entertained me the most. If you're not a rabid fan of these actresses or rough sex, you might want to skip Riot Sluts; this film wades into the territory of unappealing a few too many times for this reviewer.
