The First Word:  Private bills Fever! as another one of Antonio Adamo's mega-productions.  Considering that his other "mega-productions" were outstanding in scope and feel, I have some high expectations of Fever! -- too high, perhaps, as it turns out.

What's It About?:   There's a very simple storyline that ties in the six sex scenes.  Muscle-bound Alberto Rey and Private's ebony stud Franco Roccaforte are friends who have their share of beautiful women.  However, Alberto falls for Barby, who plays a girl who's a prostitute.  Her pimp (Toni Ribas) is a white slave trader, who wants to sell her in a high-stakes auction at his mansion.  Of course, Alberto and Franco conceive a plot involving some sexual distractions to rescue Barby from her life as a sex slave.  That's about as complicated as the story gets.  I can't for the life of me understand why it's called "Fever!" though...

I've become accustomed to seeing a lot more opening dialogue in Antonio Adamo's movies before the blowjobs start, but Fever! goes from opening credits to hardcore almost immediately.  Alberto Rey goes solo with pretty blonde Mandy Bright, while Franco gets a two-on-one with Black Widow and Beatrice.  I especially like the interracial action as the creamy white skin of the two ladies contrast nicely with Franco's African features, especially during the BJ's and spoon positions.  Toward the end of the scene, the girls change partners:  Mandy takes a nice anal reverse cowgirl, while the other two women prepare to take a "sprinkler" cum bath from from Alberto.  But the absolutely highlight of the movie is the awesome gooey load that Mandy takes on her tongue.  If Adamo didn't replay it again from a different angle, it would be rewind and re-watch material without a doubt.

The second scene features Barby and Alberto, and includes a nice open missionary position, finishing with a milking handjob pop shot in the 69 position.  The third frame shows of Cleare, a 19-year old Ukrainian beauty with a conveniently accessible dress and a very inviting pussy.  Plenty of eye candy here with the nice, close RC shots and the groin-grabbing open doggy anal footage.

Next, we're introduced to the cutest girl of the bunch, Hungarian teen Petra Short, who does a little girl-girl fondling with Barby before the two service the "bad guy," Toni Ribas.  It's a hot scene, especially when the two girls take turns riding Toni cowgirl while the other masturbates next to them.  Toni has a smallish cock compared to the other guys, but makes the most of it with the open doggy anal position.  His cumshot has good volume and accuracy, and we're treated to Private's trademark post-cumshot stare by the ladies.

As part of the rescue attempt, Cleare creates a little diversion by fucking the mansion's guard.  I'm not very impressed by this scene, since the sex is pretty repetitive, Cleare is less than enthusiastic about the facial, and Bob has to jerk off in order to cum.  Fortunately, the grand orgy finale is notably better.  Not only are all of the DP's in the final scene, but the 9-person orgy ends with three different facials, delivered in "circle jerk" fashion.  I especially liked the first pop as the cum jets actually push Tiffany's hair aside.  It's not the best Private orgy ever filmed, but it certainly ends well.

What I liked: Beautiful, natural women:  I love all of the young, unspoiled Eastern European girls in this movie!  No bevy of tattoos and piercings, and not a single set of implants among them.  I don't care for all of the make-up, nor the butchy haircuts a couple of them sport, but that's about the only negatives thing I can say.  All of the girls are neatly groomed and shaved, which is a big plus.

Good facials:  It's refreshing to see porn without facial duds -- you know, when there's no volume, accuracy, or enthusiasm.  Franco Roccaforte's pop shot is the best of the bunch, and it probably would make a top 10 list for 2002 if I made such a list.  It's a little wierd to see the "sprinkler" pops that Alberto Rey is known for, but it's certainly better than the one- or two-squirt finishes that we see in most porn.

Excellent penetration shots:  On the positive side, Adamo knows how to position the performers to get the very best eye candy, and all of the angles are well-lit and out in the open.  The only problem is that Adamo tends to put the motion blur and slow-motion effects on the best bits (see my dislikes below).

What I didn't like:  Horrible English dubbing:  Private has had a really bad track record when it comes to dubbing both dialogue and production sound during sex scenes into various languages.  The rationale is that the international cast doesn't have a common language.  I'd much prefer, though, to hear five different languages and read subtitles (or have a narrator explain what's going on) than listen to some really bad voice acting that doesn't even come close to matching the on-screen lip movements.  What's worse is the canned moaning -- there's probably nothing worse than to hear a woman going "ooooohhhh!!!!!" when she's go her mouth wrapped on the guy's cock.  You're probably better off keeping the volume really low and forgetting about the audio.  Since there isn't an English subtitle track, you're SOL when it comes to understanding what's going on, but that's not why you're watching this porno, now isn't it?

Eye contact:  Having the girls look directly into the camera at you during sex is one of those "love it or hate it" kind of things.  Some people really dig it, but I think it's over-the-top and used too frequently.  If used sparingly, it can add to the glamour of a beautiful girl, but usually it just kills the mood because it becomes a "well, you're getting fucked -- why are you looking at me and not enjoying it?"

Special effects:  One of my few criticisms of Antonio Adamo is his tendency to use music video-like effects.  While the quick cutting that a lot of directors tend to use is thankfully absent, Fever! is full of a lot of burred, slow motion shots, replays, and black and white footage.  It's distracting to go from clear, high resolution video to a "creative" shot and then back again.  Talk about screwing with your rhythm! It's especially frustrating that the effects are mostly applied to the close action shots, while the wide shots are left alone.

Excessive make-up:  The makeup artists went overboard with the use of eye shadow, rouge, and lipstick in this one.  There's nothing that turns a naturally gorgeous woman into a whorish-looking tramp better than too much make-up.  In some cases, that's a good thing, but especially in a glamour-based production, it's not.

DVD Extras:  The extras were disappointing, especially since this a flagship release with one of Private's top directors.  Instead of a decent making-of video or a bonus scene or two, we get the standard Private extras package:  some trailers, a photo-gallery, some production notes and filmographies, and a five-minute "Private Report," which is more like the behind-the-scenes teaser you see between movies on the pay cable movie channels.  The report isn't bad, it's just too short.  The best supplemental is probably the 36-picture photo gallery that has some stunningly clear and sharp hardcore photos, suitable for including in one of Private's many print magazines.

A/V Quality:   Another setback is the sub-par video quality of this release.  From the opening shot, throughout the movie, it's pretty easy to see that there's something wrong with the black level -- it's more of a milky gray. Looking closer, it looks like either grain or perhaps an attempt to a soft focus to the image that just becomes annoying over time.  While there are portions of the movie that look wonderfully crisp, those moments usually coincide with brightly-lit indoor scenes.  But since most of the movie takes place at night, it mostly looks like crap, and it gets worse as the movie progresses.

Since the dialogue and production audio is dubbed into English, I can't really comment on the audio fairly.  The music is pretty well done, especially the opening instrumentals.  The techno beat gave my speakers a decent workout with the high amount of bass.

The Last Word:  So when the final verdict is in, I have to admit that Fever! is disappointing, not because I didn't enjoy the sex, but because it doesn't hit the watermark that Adamo's other features have set.  The sex is great eye candy, and the performers are quite attractive.  But the plot, DVD extras, and A/V quality are definitely not up to snuff.  If you can pick this title on sale (or if you are an Antonio Adamo collector), then it's worth the purchase.  But don't go out of your way to own this one -- it's definitely not as good as his Private-Penthouse or Gladiator series.
