I'll never forget being astonished by the wide-eyed excitement of a sweet-faced blonde called Amanda Angel, who revealed herself to be secret super-vixen in that bewilderingly debauched first scene from Animal Trainer 4. Revelations from the dark heart of a nymphomaniac sex queen? Far from being the private life of Lynn Stone, this is the public image, as shaped by Antonio Adamo.

Scene 1 - Lynn in Adamo's Virtualia

One problem with including feature scenes in a compilation is that you have no idea what's going on in the story. Why, for example, is Lynn giving Philippe Dean a blowjob among some windswept ruins? Here's how the pros and cons stack up in this scene. Lynn looks good (of course), with long blonde hair at this stage in her career, displaying her considerable oral talents, even if this scene (and most of what follows) hardly stretches her abilities. However, we have customary Adamo clichés such as the camera stare and the use of B&W cutaways signalling a position change. Having her look at the camera instead of her partner dissipates any heat in the sex, and the editing and styling makes this appear like another production line product from Adamo. Scene 2 - Sex in the High Seas

Two major drawbacks on this scene: first, it's on the Private Life of Nikki Anderson. Second, it's a phenomenally insipid piece of work. I can see what the concept is - for example, at this time of year the beautiful people of Europe, the jet set Eurotrash, congregate in Cannes for the film festival and then migrate along the Côte D'Azur to Monaco for the Grand Prix. This scene accurately reflects this social scene by being both superficially attractive and utterly vacuous. Scene 3 - Two Men For Lynn

Some might say this is a good thing - I am not one; to me it's stupid, pointless and totally undermines the sex. She might as well be fucking blow-up sex dolls.

The action is quite strong, but even when Alberto is taking her hard, she's still, presumably, under orders to look at the camera. So, anal, DPs, close-ups of her lovely face - all well and good, but why must the sex be so heartless? Readers outside the UK or of a younger generation may not be aware of a British sci-fi series called Blake's Seven. It is therefore quite unfortunate that this sci-fi short should invoke that memory - the set and effects here are actually better than Blake's Seven. But the point is this: does this sort of amusing nonsense - the scene is like an out-of-body experience after commander Lynn's spacecraft crashes - really make an exciting sex scene? Does a guy painted silver pretending to be a robot make an exciting fantasy partner, ladies?

Okay, it's not a colossal turn-on but it's just a little bit different, it's smartly done, a little bit silly, but fun. Great. This sort of thing has no appeal to me - it's not properly interactive, it's just a scene with some additional navigation built in. Lynn looks lovely, of course, but it's not up to much.

I've never been convinced about the compilation format, and with a focus on one performer it can become somewhat monotonous - Adamo's domination of Lynn's Private career compounds this problem. However, the Private Life series does represent good value for money and is ideal for fans of a girl. I say that, but then I thought I was a fan of the girl I knew as Amanda Angel. After this, I am puzzled. With some interesting moments balancing a lot of similar material, this collection is far from being a disaster, but the girl Private want to sell you and who so professionally gives of herself to the whims of Antonio Adamo's direction isn't the girl I really want to see. But then who is the "real" Lynn? Did she really exist? Amanda Angel is safely locked away as Lynn pouts for the pretty pictures but we rarely see anything "real" (in as much as anything seen in porn can be considered "real"). No one sweats, they rarely speak (look, there's another human being right there!!!) or even smiles during sex, but they always look appealing.

Not that Signor Adamo concerns himself with such matters. Adamo's aesthetic has much the same effect as all those pristinely packaged products on the supermarket shelves. They tempt me to buy but they ultimately leave me feeling unsatisfied. Those seeking something a little more organic will have to look somewhere else. I shall be returning to Animal Trainer 4, for example. From this collection, you'd hardly know what this girl could do! It's up to you of course. For my part, I felt parts of the Private Life of Lynn Stone were better than I anticipated; others were weaker than I could have imagined, and the overall effect is one of modest interest. After a while, it just kind of washes over me like elevator muzak. It is, of course, a million miles better than some of the dross I've seen lately.

This is an excellent package, in terms of value and quality. The picture and sound are uniformly first-class and the menus offer access to a wealth of material - a hidden scene on disc one, full cast and movie details, a quite interesting "behind the scenes" featurette on disc two, four full Private magazine stills sets, photo books and trailer for every movie in her Private filmography, and of course the interactive scene on disc two. There are plenty of language and subtitle options as usual.
