Synopsis:
Platinum X Pictures is giving two people, one male and one female, the chance to be the next porn stars, where the winners get to participate in a sex scene with Jewel De'Nyle. What is shown here is the competition from start to completion.

Audio/Video:
Porn Star Idol is presented with an English 2.0 Stereo track, which is all the film requires and more. The film would have actually survived quite well with a two channel mono track. The film is all conversation and sex and the dialog is clear throughout and the audio is well balanced. Viewers shouldn't be disappointed with the audio in any way. Platinum X Pictures hasn't included any foreign language tracks or subtitle options for the feature film.

Porn Star Idol is presented in the full screen aspect ratio of 1.33:1, which works for the film. Usually I am in favor of adult films being shot for widescreen however given the nature of the film, full screen works far better here. The video presentation isn't as good as the audio; there are red and blue halos present throughout the film. The halos aren't bad and don't ruin the viewing experience, however they are noticeable and distracting at times. Overall, I wouldn't decide not to purchase the disc due to them. Other than that there are no problems and the picture is clear and crisp.

Special Features:
There are a few extras included on the disc. There is the director's bio, which is a short text biography of Jewel De'Nyle along with a picture of her. There is a photo gallery with 25 stills on a track. There are trailers on the disc for Anal Expedition 2, Full Anal Access 3, and Sinful Asians 2. It's too bad that PXP didn't include the missing footage with Bisexual Britni that is talked about in the film as an extra on the disc.

Disc Design/Navigation:
The disc is nicely designed with animated menus with background music. There are six chapters available from the chapter menu. Each one is identified by a video clip from the scene that the chapter goes to. There is a time code encoded on the disc for the feature film.

General Review:
With the influx of reality television shows catching on with viewers and dominating the small screen market, it was only a matter of time before one of the adult film companies came up with a reality flick of their own. The question is can such a film work when made for the adult market and will it go over with adult audiences? Personally, I'm not much of a fan of reality television and probably would have passed on watching this film until I saw that Jewel De'Nyle was behind it. Having enjoyed her past work, I thought I would give the flick a try. The premise behind the film is simple, PXP is going to give a male and a female a chance to become a porn star. The design is something that most viewers will recognize as well. Before going into competition, the competitors are interviewed by Bisexual Britni. Then they go before the judging panel of Jewel De'Nyle, Jacklyn Lick, and Ron Jeremy. After competing they go for an exit interview with Bisexual Britni. Yes, it's the same format used by many reality shows, however, it works just fine here as well.

The first elimination has the men enter individually and use toys to jerk off to completion. The one female contestant plays with toys in front of, and with, the judges. At the end of the round, all the men and the woman are brought in together. Jewel lets each of them know how they did, and where their shortcomings are, and then let those who would continue on know. The second day another female, who was found the night before by Ron Jeremy, competes and then gives Michael Stefano a blow job ending with a facial and two more men try out. Then there is the final elimination where all the men who made the cut perform a bukkake with Bisexual Britni. After the bukkake, all the contestants find out who came close to winning, and who the winners are, who get to participate in a sex scene with Jewel De'Nyle.

The film works and, possibly because it is sexually oriented, I found it to be far more enjoyable than the standard reality fare out there. However, due to the nature of the film, I don't think it will appeal to the typical porn watcher. Overall, the film is more of a look at the pressures of performing in the industry and how it is far harder than many people think it is, especially horny young men who think they would make the next great performer. Viewers that are looking for a masturbatory aide or an enhancement for their sex will ultimately end up being disappointed in this title. Viewers that are interested in learning more about the industry and look for more than just sex in their adult films will probably enjoy this film. The sexual themes in the film are vaginal sex with male masturbation, female masturbation, male toy use, female toy use (vaginal and anal), anal fingering, blow jobs, pussy fingering, pussy eating, and bukakke. For viewers that care about condom use, there are no condoms used in the film.

There were a few things about the film that disappointed me though. The lack of female contestants was a big disappointment. I'd have loved to see some more of them in the film intermixed with the males. I'd like to have seen more elimination rounds as well. Both of these would have made the film longer though and I'm not sure that it would work as well with such an extended run time. The other disappointment is there is talk of Bisexual Britni playing with several of the contestants, but none of it is shown. It would have been nice if that had been added to the film or if it had been made available as an extra on the disc.

Parting Thoughts:
Porn Star Idol is a great concept and works well, although it may not appeal to the typical porn viewer. There isn't much for jerk off material present in the film and it is more a look into the behind the scenes of performing than a full adult film. Viewers who are interested to see how demanding the adult industry can be and how hard it is to perform under such circumstances will love the film. Viewers that are just looking for jack off material should continue looking.
