Review:
Draped proudly in a flag sporting both Playboy logos and our nation's fine, red, white, and blue colors, the stunning, 1998 Playboy Playmate of the Year, Karen McDougal, peers out invitingly from her Video Centerfold boxcover. Indeed, she is both lovely and the vision of the all-American girl that the magazine so carefully cultivated under its several-decades long run with its founder, Hugh Hefner. As such, who would have thought that a scant 20 years later, this leggy, wholesome lass would be in the public eye again--and, in fact, more so than ever before--for all of the wrong reasons. To be sure, her current parade through the press is based upon purported, past romps with the President when he was "merely" a billionaire (a married billionaire, that is) and a reality TV star. While these are simply "allegations" at the moment, albeit seemingly well-founded ones, it still appears the perfect time to pull out McDougal's old VHS tape from the bin under the bed, blow the dust off of the cover, hit "rewind" from where I stopped "watching" (*ahem*) all those years ago, and give it another spin. Certainly, most of us are neither billionaires nor Presidents, nor are we reality TV stars, so this may be as close as we can get to their fascinating (alleged) world of sexual indulgence and excess...and what a world of sexual indulgence and excess it must have been with the outrageously gorgeous Ms. Karen McDougal involved (allegedly). Indeed, watching this tape seems to be the American thing to do, and if nothing more, it made my VCR great again...if only for a short time.
In terms of the contents, this video runs about an hour from start to finish and offers up the brunette beauty, Karen McDougal, in all of her bare-all glory in standard, 1990's Playboy style. The sequences, which are intermixed into interview material with McDougal and her mom, are chic and sophisticated (perhaps overly so), and the production values are the artsy best that the period had to offer for such a release. For her part, Karen often prances about playfully in little-to-no clothing as cheesy, happy tunes fill the background. The themes are varied, from McDougal dancing in a raincoat in the rain, to a white, Roman-themed photo shoot session, to a "pop-up video" style sequence in a brick-walled loft, and so on. Also thrown in for good measure are a softcore, fantasy sequence with a male neighbor in an apartment hallway, Karen playing a ghost and leading a male driver back to her smoky, candlelit mansion for another softcore session, and an interesting foray into a latex-walled room, where myriad hands grope the young star. Of course, all of this merely serves to frame the beauty possessed by Ms. McDougal...which is by no means in short supply. Indeed, it's clear that she's worthy of the Presidential Seal of Approval, as she certainly trumped all of the competition back in the day and is doing so again, now...bigly.
Also included, as part of the ~60 minutes, is a profile of another Playboy Playmate of yore (September, 1997), the stunning, California blonde, Nikki Schieler, who was later married to the shark-dodging actor, Ian Ziering, for a time. Schieler's portion of the video is relatively short but still sweet, as it brings forth the slinky lass flashing in a park, showing off the goods that God gave her in a carnival-themed foray, beating a cowboy at a country bar in a game of strip-pool and driving off with his motorcycle, and so on. No doubt, Nikki was another hot one. Very sexy.
In all, fans of Playboy's old-school video fare, pretty-girl material presented in a super-sleek package, Presidential politics, and/or either of these fine ladies might want to try to find a copy of this tape. While it ain't porn, it sure is purtty...and bizarrely relevant.
