The Short Story

Initial Expectations: I’ve bene getting into fetish movies more and more lately. This isn’t normally my thing, but RedBoard has such a great back catalogue that I’m curious to see how their DVDs are.

Initial Reaction: It’s nicely varied and surprisingly well done.

Who Should Watch It : B&D fans who want to see people pushed to varying degrees and past crying

Who Should Avoid It: Anybody who doesn’t want to see women crying

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects are very well done, especially for a fetish feature. Most of the audio is very clear and very well balanced. There are a few background noises, but they’re only during the outdoor portions of the movie and things such as planes or traffic going by. The video is much the same way. It’s all very well lit but there’s a hint of grain to the picture. Although it’s not perfect, these are some of the best technical aspects I’ve seen from a fetish feature.

Music: There’s a little music at the start of each scene. It’s just enough to let you know that something new is starting and is nicely balanced with the rest of the feature.

Disc Problems: There’s no time stamp for the feature, which always annoys me a little. I often like to jump to a specific point in a movie when I watch it a second or third time, and without a time stamp I can’t do it. From what I understand about it, a time stamp takes virtually no time or effort to include, so whenever I see a DVD without it the DVD feels a bit cheap to me or like somebody didn’t quite know what they were doing. I had a bit of the latter feeling here as there is a time stamp for the slide show photo gallery.

Borderline False Advertising: The back cover lists both behind the scenes photos and a slide show. This makes it sound like two separate collections of pictures, but both contain the same photos (and yes, some of them are behind the scenes). Technically it’s correct as one is automated and the other is not, but listing them as two separate things on the cover makes it sound like much more than what it is. RedBoard is still new with DVDs, so I’m hoping this is corrected for future releases.

Menus: The menus are good and bad. On the bad side is the main menu. It’s very bland and basically just gives you a still of the cover with your choices. On the good side is the chapter menu, which shows some nice care by letting you choose a scene based on a small clip of each scene and the name of the performers in each scene.

The Feature

Pain 5 goes with a pretty obvious subject. In each scene somebody (normally one of the girls) is pushed with something other than what most people think of as a loving touch. There’s flogging, clothespins, slapping, and other aspects of rough sex. There’s normally a little plot to start things out for each scene, but it’s never so long that you wonder how long it’s going to take to get to the action.

Scene 1 - Africa and Jamie Gillis

Jamie starts things out reminding Africa that she’s in a movie called Pain. He calls her a few names, talks down to her, pinches her nipples, and slaps her a bit to remind her of what the movie’s about while she occasionally wipes the tears out of her eyes with a string of tissues. He calls Africa stupid while flogging her until she can’t take it any more. She slaps him back and takes his flogger away before turning the tables on him. She has him pull down his pants and flogs his ass while talking down to him before having him roll over. Jamie guards his cock while Africa threatens him with the flogger and pinches his nipples. She continues to work Jamie over since he won’t be quiet like she told him, and even rewards him when he’s a good dirty old man. She agrees to sit on Jamie’s face, and spits on him when he suggests it. Jamie struggles against her to try and take control, but Africa just isn’t going to let that happen. After she puts Jamie in his place a few times, Africa decides it’s time to say goodbye.

This is a surprisingly fun scene. I love how Africa turns the tables on Jamie. They both look like they’re having a lot of fun in the scene, and keep things fairly light with the banter between them. I never thought I’d be smiling during a scene here, but I really ended up liking this scene.

Scene 2 - Jasmine LaCruz and Serena Tudor

When Serena catches Jasmine washing her hands with her leather cups on, she knows she has to give Jasmine a little punishment so that she doesn’t forget again. She flogs Jasmine’s back before dropping her top to flog her tits a little. She even hikes up Jasmine’s dress so that she can flog her ass. Mistress Serena also has Jasmine worship her shoes, and flogs her after she doesn’t do it right. Finally, she gives Jasmine one last lesson so she won’t forget how to do things right.

This is a pretty good scene. It’s a bit more limited than the first scene and has more of a straightforward B&D aspect. I didn’t like this scene quite as much, but the variety adds a lot to the movie and once again it’s pretty clear that the performers are really into the action.

Scene 3 - Kaylynn and Mike Metropolis

When Kaylynn suggest spicing up her and Mike’s sex life, she never expected him to pick up a bunch of bondage gear. He has her hop up on the bar when she finds them and flogs her ass. Mike slaps it until she cries, and then has her take off her shirt, flogging her when she doesn’t do it fast enough. He puts clothespins on Kaylynn’s nipples and works between spanking her and putting clothespins on her. He works Kaylynn untill she cries nonstop and then shoves her panties into her mouth to quiet her down. Finally he pulls the panties out, removes the clothespins, and takes her away over his shoulder telling her she’s okay.

This scene didn’t do much for me. Unlike the other scenes, Kaylynn didn’t look like she was enjoying herself and her tears seemed all too real. I know there’s some pleasure to B&D, but it never came out too well here. Mike seemed fairly sadistic through most of the scene, but did redeem himself a little at the end.

Scene 4 - Mary Stuart and Jamie Gillis

Mary, who looks like she’s probably been dying her hair to give it some color for over a decade, starts things out against a chair spiderweb with Jamie. He questions her while pulling her hair and choking her. Jamie talks about how Mary’s training to be a submissive, but learns that she has quite a bit of attitude as he spanks her. When she bites and kicks him a little while he lays down the rules, he chokes her to remind her who’s in control. She keeps throwing attitude at Jamie and he keeps having to remind her who’s in control. He works her over until she looks like she might be broken, and spits on her and flogs her as she cries on the floor. Mary holds out, however, which turns Jamie on all the more. He tells her that he’d fuck her, but he can’t for the movie before it fades out.

This is another fairly uncomfortable scene, but Mary works it very well. Her resistence adds a lot to the scene, and plays very well off Jamie’s dominance. It also adds another level to the feature, and works as a great ending for the movie.

Pain 5 is a surprisingly well done bondage feature. I didn’t always find it comfortable, but it has a great variety to the scenes. They range everywhere from the uncomfortable where the girls look like they’re in intense pain with Kaylynn and Mike Metropolis to fun scenes where it looks like everybody’s having a lot of fun and it’s treated as a game with Africa and Jamie Gillis. Jamie plays both ends extremely well here, and actually really impressed me with his acting abilities. Pain 5 won’t be for everybody, but if it’s your kind of action you should find something you really like here.

The Extra Stuff

The photo gallery contains roughly forty very good looking snapshots which you can look through either at your own pace or as part of a four minute automated gallery lasting about with six seconds per photo. There’s also contact information.

The Bottom Line:

Currently, RedBoard’s DVDs can be found online for about $25 to $32 with very few stores offering them. If you’re into this kind of action, you’re almost guaranteed to find something you like here with the variety of scenes included here. There’s also some very nice attention paid to the technical aspects, although there isn’t anything worth mentioning for extras.

Note to RedBoard: It’s great to see you putting so much effort towards your technical aspects. I really wish more studios would follow your lead! The only thing that’s really missing here is something in the area of extras. You have plenty of room on a DVD for a few, and at the very least a bonus scene from another feature would really help things out.
