Oil Rig #99 is essentially an all sex gay hardcore film from Joe Gage. The concept behind the film is that Clyde Atkins travels from Port Sudan, Sudan, through Khartoum, to Oil Rig 99 in the Nubian Desert for a six-month assignment. Once there, his boss Stash Wynosky tells him that while at the rig, the men all play with each other to pass the time.

Oil Rig #99 is an obviously cheaply churned out film where the turn around time mattered way more than the quality of the film. The films that Joe Gage shot during this period were reportedly shot in one to two days and turned over to the studio within a few days. The rushed nature of Oil Rig #99 stands out like a sore thumb. Most of the sets are made up of white curtains hanging, which doesn't even resemble what one would expect living quarters of an oil rig to look like. This usage of sheets just makes the film flat out look cheap. There is some stock footage of an oil rig that is used in between sex scenes.

The set up for the film, which is dragged out through most of the film, even though the viewer has figured it out immediately, is mostly given during a voice over segment during the opening credits and brief interludes between the three sex scenes contained within the film. As far as how good the sex scenes themselves are, that is hard for this reviewer to determine since this reviewer is straight.

Oil Rig #99 is a cheaply churned out film that is bound to disappoint most viewers. There is no real pretense of a plot or even enough to consider any part of the film a vignette. Then to top it all off, the film was just cheaply made and looks it. Oil Rig #99 is an easy film to skip.

Cream of the Crop and The French Connection have done an absolutely abysmal job with their DVD release of Oil Rig #99. Oil Rig #99 was shot on film and is presented in the academy aspect ratio of 1.33:1 in 480i. Cream of the Crop has clearly utilized a beat up VHS video tape as their master for this release. The colors are washed out of scenes and many scenes are murky to the point it is almost impossible to make out any details. There are glitches in the video and there are tracking issues present in the video as well too. There are print damage and artifacts present in the image as well. The image has a lack of definition as well. The image quality here is so bad it is almost unwatchable.

Oil Rig #99 is presented with an English Dolby Digital 2.0 monaural audio track. The audio available for the film isn't in great condition either. There is a very pronounced hiss throughout the presentation and the volume is at a lower level. The little bit of dialog that is in the film can be heard to hear and understand.

Cream of the Crop and The French Connection haven't included any extras on this release.

Joe Gage may have made some great gay adult films over the years, unfortunately, Oil Rig #99 isn't one of them. Oil Rig #99 is essentially an all sex film that was made fast and cheap. If you are a fan of the cast, Oil Rig #99 might be worth a rental, otherwise, this reviewer would recommending passing on this one. Cream of the Crop and The French Connection have done an abysmal job with their DVD release of Oil Rig #99 with almost unwatchable video quality and audio that is hard to hear.
