Nurse Diary: Beast Afternoon is part of the Nikkatsu Roman Porno, a Japanese pink film but with a higher budget, film series. As is standard with Japanese adult films, no hardcore sex nor any genitals are shown in the film at any time. The genital area is always obscured by camera angles, objects, hands, or optical distortions. The lack of hardcore footage doesn't mean that Nurse Diary: Beast Afternoon is a tame film though as the film does contain what could be considered coercion and a scene of golden showers.

Nurse Diary: Beast Afternoon centers the story around Reiko (Jun Miho), who has sex with her boyfriend Jun (Kôzô Murao) in a cemetery. A spider scares the couple and Jun becomes stuck inside Reiko. The couple is rushed to the Tachibana Clinic, where another doctor has invented The Dream Ring, a device when put inside a woman's vagina can allow her dreams to be seen. The doctor who created The Dream Ring is found hung and the hospital staff starts using the device on Reiko due to her genophobia, a fear of sexual relations.

As far as the plot goes, Nurse Diary: Beast Afternoon is a nonsensical mess. The film just bounces around from one story to another without ever really validating why any of them ever really exist and come to the end of the film when they disclose the big ending, none of it seems to actually fit in nor does it help any of the film become coherent. Much of what is here serves to just move the film from sex scene to sex scene. Any true attempt to understand what is going on will just muddle the viewer's mind.

The sex scenes aren't bad. As was stated earlier, if any of the footage was hardcore, the hardcore sequences have been, in one way or another obscured. The cast looks good and seems to be enjoying themselves during the sex scenes. The production values for the film are good. The film is nicely shot and the sets are well assembled.

Nurse Diary: Beast Afternoon looks good as far as the technical side goes and the sex scenes look good. However, the plot is all over the place and never really ever makes sense. Thus the film is a hard one to recommend.

Impulse Pictures has done a nice job with their release of Nurse Diary: Beast Afternoon. Nurse Diary: Beast Afternoon was shot on film and Impulse Pictures clearly used a film print to master the disc from. Nurse Diary: Beast Afternoon is presented in the anamorphic widescreen aspect ratio of 1.78:1 in 480p. The image contains the expected print damage, artifacts, and grain. The colors in the film look beautiful and there should be nothing to complain about regarding the image quality.

Nurse Diary: Beast Afternoon is presented with a Japanese Dolby Digital 2.0 monaural audio track. The film sounds fine without any noticeable defects in the audio. Removable English subtitles are included for the feature film.

Impulse Pictures has included a few extras on the release. On the disc is the theatrical trailer for the film. There are also linear notes by Jasper Sharp included on a card inside the casing.

Nurse Diary: Beast Afternoon is part of the Nikkatsu Roman Porno line from Impulse Pictures and the film is softcore with genitals obscured. The film looks nice and had a decent budget, however, the plot is a nonsensical mess and that drags the film down. Impulse Pictures has done a great job with their release offering beautiful video and audio quality.
