The Movie

Naked Eyes is a shot on video quickie from the 80s and is a movie where what is considered the plot is continued from an earlier installment in the series, Touch of Mischief (which appears to be, but may not be, a continuation of French Postcard), and what is considered the plot is continued at the end of the movie in the next installment, Tuesday's Lover. Not that you need to watch the other entries, the plot is threadbare and most of what is considered the plot in this has nothing to do with what appears to be the main plot.

Jerry (Herschel Savage) runs an ice cream shop that has a special aphrodisiac ice cream. One of his employees Valerie (Lynn Cartier) sets out to steal the secret ingredient that gives the ice cream its appeal. This plot line, which is the one that apparently started in Touch of Mischief, is barely touched upon within the film and states it continues in Tuesday's Lover.

Most of Naked Eyes, however, is taken up with Chance Taylor (Shone Taylor), an adventurer friend of Jerry's, who shows up at the ice cream parlor and tells of his adventures in the desert with Arab Sheikh Kahn (Herschel Savage). Not that there is really any point to Chance's story too. This is one of those adult movies where the plot exists purely to be able to call this a feature movie, not because it's actually trying to tell a real story.

Naked Eyes is a prime example of bad 80s adult movies. The plot really had no thought put into it and despite being a continuation and being continued, nothing really happens within this movie. The movie has cheap, cheap sets. The Arab Sheikh's tent set-up is just horrifically bad and looks like it was thrown together in about five minutes by someone who thinks Sheikhs live in blanket forts. The movie is dominated by classic examples of bad 80s porn music that dominated many productions from the time. The attempts at humor are horrible. They all feel forced almost begging the viewer for a laugh.

The movie stars some good 80s stars. Herschel Savage and Tom Byron both have proved their chops in other productions as both great at sex scenes as well as having acting talent. The movie also stars other talents such as Misty Regan and Raven. However the sex scenes come across as uninspired and the non-sex portions come across as just phoning it in. Not that one can blame the cast for this. The whole movie appears uninspired and gives the viewer the feeling that the uncredited director was just trying to shove out a fast movie for a quick buck.

The Edition

Classic X Collection has done a poor job with this release. Naked Eyes is presented in the academy aspect ratio of 1.33:1 in 480i. Classic X Collection appears to have used a VHS tape for the master for this release making the resolution 250i, which looks horrible. The transfer has glitches in the video and poor definition. There is a banding of lighter color on the left side of the screen and there is a band where the color is off on the top of the screen. Color representations are acceptable.

Naked Eyes is presented with an English Dolby Digital 2.0 monaural audio track. The audio track is acceptable for the presentation and dialog can be heard throughout the movie.

Classic X Collection hasn't included any extras on this release.

Final Thoughts

As far as being a feature movie, Naked Eyes is a failure. There isn't enough of plot here to really justify calling this a feature movie. As far as being an all sex movie, Naked Eyes is also a failure since the movie does spend time with the lack of a plot the movie puts around the movie. The sex scenes are average at best making Naked Eyes an easy movie to skip. Classic X Collection has done a poor job with this release as well with what appears to be a VHS tape transferred to DVD.
