Running Time: 91 min.

Production Date: 10 / 30 / 1998

Director: Jon Raven (also writer)

Cast: Sydnee Steele, T. J. Hart, Julie Meadows, Taylor St. Clair, Jessica Darlin, Sabrina Johnson, Gwen Summers (non-sex), John Decker, Van Damage, Luciano, Cameron Steel, Jon Raven, Paula Domain (non-sex), Ernest Green (non- sex), John Root, and George Kaplan (non-sex)

Initial Expectations: With a cast like this It’s almost impossible to not have fairly high expectations even if the DVD is from Extreme.

Initial Reaction: It’s a good idea but not done as well as I think it could be.

Audio /Video Quality: The audio is pretty clear but the balance is slightly off. The video varies from intentionally grainy to slightly grainy to very clear and mixes black and white and color. It works very well for the movie.

Music: The music is fairly heavy and overbearing. It’s dark, eerie, weird music that seems like it would fit well in The X-Files but it doesn’t always fit well here.

Review: Mind Fuck revolves around Jon Raven, looking fairly beat up, as the police (John Decker and George Kaplan) question him after arrested him for breaking into his girlfriend’s (Gwen Summers) house. Gwen believes Jon is pure evil and the thought of Jon being let loose terrifies her. She tells John and George that Jon deals in Mind Fuck, a drug that when sniffed makes the person very horny with almost no will power for about twenty minutes. The movie follows both what Gwen thinks or knows happens and Jon’s stories about he claims really happened.

The opening scene has Jon drugging and then filming Jessica Darlin in a hotel room with Luciano. Jessica does a great job deep throating Luciano although I don’t find her that attractive. She’s plagued by ass zits and stubble, has a pierced tongue and navel (which I don’t mind much), a large tattoo above her ass, and wears an Extreme necklace. A company necklace always turns me off as it makes the girl appear like a total sell-out to me. There’s some decent energy but the scene seems very mechanical. After Luciano gives her a double, yes double, facial we later see Jessica sprawled across the floor with her throat slashed.

The second scene has the normally very good Taylor St. Clair with the mediocre Cameron Steele as Ernest Green and Paula Domain watch. There isn’t any real background to this scene, so you don’t know how many of them were given the drug. Cameron starts off partially dressed and Taylor looks really hot in her lingerie. As usual she gives a great blowjob and the rest of the scene is fairly hot also. I like what I’ve scene from Taylor but I’ve seen her do better than she does here. Cameron finishes the scene off by shooting his load on Taylor’s massive real tits. I’m almost tempted to call it a facial since each of her funbags are about the size of some people’s heads.

Julie Meadows and Van Damage start with Julie sucking on Van’s pole. This is the most straightforward scene in the movie. There isn’t any lead in, just sex. Julie looks hot, as almost always, and some pink lingerie with white cotton panties. Julie really shows what a trooper she is as she deep throats Van, frequently gagging. There’s very little vaginal sex but they make up with plenty of anal and Julie doing ass to mouth several times. Sadly, Julie doesn’t seem as into it as she does in many of her other scenes. She has shown some decent acting, so I’m blaming this one on the mind fuck drug. Once again, the girl in the scene ends up with her throat slashed at the end.

Jon Raven takes the always worth watching Sydnee Steele next after telling Decker and Kaplan that you haven’t lived unless you’ve had your cock in a girl’s ass. Sydnee’s a great choice for this scene and does anal with her normal ease. It’s a fairly rough scene with some choking, but it fits Raven’s character very well.

Finally, T. J. Hart and Sabrina Johnson work each other over while John Decker watches and throws some money at them. After sniffing something, which one can assume just might be mind fuck, he also has T. J. sniff it. Sadly, it’s a pretty typical three way. After John joins in and gets a decent double blow job, which ever girl isn’t getting fucked normal sits out with minimal pussy eating from the girl getting fucked. In the end it ends up only being a fairly hot scene before finishing up the movie with a nice twist or two to the plot.

I’m really torn on the sex in Mind Fuck . Looking just at the scenes without the idea behind the movie, the chemistry seems horrible and the women look dazed and bored. Needless to say, I don’t think many people look for poor chemistry and bored women in sex scenes outside of Ed Powers and Randy West movies. Even Ed and Randy get more emotion out of the women than is normally here. This leads to looking at the sex in the context of the movie which means that we’re to think the women are acting this way because they’re drugged and don’t really have all their willpower. If so, the cast does a great job. Why should there be chemistry if the guy has to drug the woman to have sex? That’s what the drug is there for. Also, if the woman is drugged, she isn’t going to look excited. This is a lot more disturbing, but looking at the talent of the cast in other movies it’s what I’m assuming Mr. Raven wants. It doesn’t do much for me but it does show some of the talent of the cast.

One of the best things about Mind Fuck is the mood Mr. Raven has created. The closest I can come to is a noir feel but it’s darker than that. Unlike most pornos where you can tell exactly what year it was made by the styles, Mind Fuck has a more timeless feel. You can feel the nineties in it, but the late forties and early fifties are just as prevalent in the styles and cars. In a mainstream movie one would have been tempted to compare Decker and Kaplan to one such as Humphrey Bogart and possibly even compare Gwen Summers to Lauren Bacall. It’s a unique feel for an adult film and one that raised the movie up for me above women being drugged to have sex.

As much as I hate the subject, I also kind of like the idea behind Mind Fuck . I think it’s got a lot of potential for a porno, especially if the director wants to get a little kinky and maybe even have fun with it rather than treating it completely seriously kind of like a love potion 69 (which would make a great porno title and has probably already been used several times). A little cross-dressing, such as Andrew Blake has used with women masquerading as men in House of Dreams and Secrets would add a nice twist without getting too weird. As it is, the nastiest or kinkiest act is an ass to mouth. There isn’t even a double penetration, which I think the drug could be used to explain with a fairly withdrawn, or even a college / school girl scene. Sadly, I didn’t see any of this potential used, and because of it, although the movie is slightly better than average, it isn’t nearly what it should have been. You can, however, see a lot of potential in Jon Raven as a director.

Extras: The slide show lasts about a minute and three quarters with about four and a half seconds per picture. The photos are a mix of full screen and snap shots and range between okay and very good quality. Although automated, there’s no music to the slide show. The bonus scene lasts thirteen minutes and is titled “Pebbles and Tony In Anal Workout “. Pebbles starts by spotting Tony as he lifts weights before they decide that fucking would be better exercise. Pebbles is very cute and looks to have a pretty good body when dressed. Sadly, her chest is fairly flabby. Tony is a little heavy and balding. There’s a reason this scene isn’t found on any videocassette.

Themes: Straight, spanking, anal, ass to mouth, lesbian, and group

Raincoat Factor: Medium high

Overall: Currently Mind Fuck can be found online for between $24 and $28.50 with several stores offering it for around $25. I picked it up on sale for $18 and was thought it was a fair price. The current price seems a little high. There’s a good idea in Mind Fuck but I think it could be done a little better. The sex is nothing special and isn’t as good as many of the performers have done elsewhere. The transfer appears to be pretty good but the extras are very forgettable, especially the bonus scene.

Note to Extreme Studios: This was a decent movie but the overall DVD lacked a little. Some trailers and bios of the cast are normal extras that would have been a lot nicer than a lackluster bonus scene.
