A couple of years ago, the Czech actress Meridian appeared on the Euro scene, sometimes working as Svetlana or Svedlana. She was a gorgeous blonde with a perfect body who engaged in the nastiest sex imaginable. Most of her work was for German companies, the sort whose work comes out in the USA as the series "Little Women," "Skin," and "Maximum Perversion." These aren't real good, the scenes are hurried and unimaginative, but there is plenty of anal and naughtier acts. Meridian did a few higher quality movies such as Rocco's True Anal Stories 9 and Pierre Woodman's House of Love, and these brought her to my attention.

She is credited as director, while Richard Mailer is the producer, but in the long run, I would guess that he had greater influence on the finished product.
Meridian Makes a Movie is both a title and a description, since the plot is that she is making a porno set during the decline of the Habsburgs in 1853. She hires a bunch of her Czech friends to perform the roles in her costume drama about a princess forced into a diplomatic marriage. The actual movie is about the performers slipping off for some nookie away from the set of the fictional movie.
The action begins as Robert Rosenberg takes a walk with Marina (see her also in Killer Pussy 2). She sucks him a bit, wearing a long hoop dress, and then he moves the skirt aside to slip her the bone in standing doggy. A condom has suddenly appeared on his member, something that never happens in his many LeCastel movie appearances. That's sign one that this won't be your typical ass-banging Euro flick.

I don't recognize the men, and actually, aside from Amanda, the women are strangers too. Most of them are pretty in a very plain way, and the costumes accentuate this with their lack of extravagence. The action is pretty good, all the women put out good energy, but it is all restrained (and condoms all around). Where are the DPs and anals that mark a Euro group scene? It's as though simply the idea that a bunch of people are fucking ought to be enough to titilate American audiences. Would Meridian really stage a scene this mundane?
Sherry is a longtime Czech veteran, she takes deep anal in all sorts of movies including Please! 9 (Amanda Angel is also in that one) and Assman 12 (two scenes). The crew groans at this alleged joke, and Meridian looks at the audience, "What, I say something wrong?" A weak end to a weak movie.
I suspect that Meridian was allowed to choose talent and have a say in setting up scenes, but I doubt that this was the movie she truly wanted to make. "Trust me," Mailer probably whispered in her ear, "I'll help you make a movie Americans will eat up." As if in an attempt to make up for a short, uninspired movie, the DVd has lots of extras, not that they are very good. Most are promos of one sort or another for how wonderful Wicked Pictures believes themselves to be. The previews reminded me that the typical American made dreck is even worse than this. The on set and behind the scenes photo books are ok, and the report on making of Meridian's body mold for a sex toy was watchable (Meridian is always watchable, even in bastradized form such as here).
If you are new to Euro films and talent, you might find this extremely hot and exciting. Consider it a set of training wheels to guide you on to truly good sex movies, such as the ones I mentioned above. If you are already familiar with those, I wouldn't bother with Meridian Makes a Movie. As far as I recall, the follow up, Between the Lines (probably on DVD eventually), is a bit better. All this one did for me was give me the urge to seek out Meridian's two movies with Christoph Clark, Euro Angels 20 and Euro Harball 6. After two Wicked movies she retired to give motherhood a try, so I'm going savor those two performances I haven't seen yet. Meridian kicks ass, but Meridian Makes a Movie is a failure, despite a good cast.
