Initial Expectations: Nicholas Steele has been kind of hit or miss for me, so I’m not quite sure what to expect.

Initial Reaction: It’s not a bad investment.

Who Should Watch It : Couples wanting something with a light but sexy plot and sex that pushes things slightly

Who Should Avoid It: Anybody wanting something extremely soft or with a lot of anal

Audio /Video Quality: The audio left a little to be desired for me. First, the level seems a little on the low side and varies throughout the movie. Second, the balance seems off in places, although thankfully it’s not off so badly that it jumps right out at you. Finally, there’s a few background noises throughout the feature that do jump right out at you (especially during the scene between Jana and Cameron). There’s a disclaimer before the movie starts to point out that The Merger was shot in high definition and that it was formatted to fit the screen. Sadly, that means that they took a widescreen aspect ratio and stretched it out to fit the full screen ratio. Thankfully, that’s the biggest problem with the video. It’s nicely lit and there isn’t much grain. There is a little bit, but that might be a consequence of screwing up the aspect ratio here.

Music: As frequently occurs with Nicholas Steele, the music is provided by Saint. Normally Saint uses a slightly trip-hop new age feel that I really like, but here it’s more straight out techno. It’s often too loud and has a bit of a different feel to it here that didn’t really work for me much of the time.

Menus: The menus are a little above average. The main menu has a nice bit of animation to help it out. The chapter menu lets you choose a scene based on a small clip of each scene and a chapter number.

Disc Complaints: The feature is split over two titles. Once you start the second title you can’t go back to anything before it without going through the main menu. This is extremely annoying, and something that I thought most companies had moved past a couple years ago.

The Feature: Nikita Denise’s business is interested in getting in bed with Randy Spears’s business. Randy knows that this will cause his stocks to skyrocket and make him very rich. The only thing that’s complicating the deal is that Nikita only deals with companies where she knows that the head is a passionate lover.

Randy Spears and Avy Scott start things out in an elaborate shower with multiple heads. One of the heads just happens to be the one Avy quickly gets down to give to Randy. The scene ends without a pop or anything that resembles one, instead looking like most of the scene was lost.

Needless to say, this scene was an extreme disappointment to me. Avy looks amazing, and does a great job sucking cock. Unfortunately, this scene ends up feeling like a complete waste of time and I’m not even sure why the heck it’s included.

Ashley Long and Steve Holmes hook up in the lobby for the second scene. They kiss passionately before Steve opens up Ashley’s clothes and goes down to pay his respects to her beaver. My only regret is that Ashley doesn’t take it in the pooper, as it would feel completely natural here. It’s still a hot scene, but the lack of anal when both performers seem to be wanting it so bad holds it back from what it feels like it could be.

Avy Scott, who has one of the best bodies in the adult industry as well as being darn cute, gets it on with Randy Spears next, this time in bed. Avy starts out diddling herself while Randy works towards the upcoming merger. When Avy gets jealous after Randy talks about Nikita, he shows her that business is business and she’s home! Nikita Denise, undoubtably one of the top European talents in front of the camera right now, and Steve Holmes, a European stud who’s thankfully finding his way in front of American cameras more and more, get busy next. They exchange oral favors, starting slowly and gradually building up in intensity, before Steve takes the log to Nikita’s beaver. This is a hot scene! There’s great chemistry between Nikita and Steve, and I really like seeing that Nikita doesn’t have to get nasty to turn out a great scene. Even though there’s no anal, I think this scene should leave most of Nikita’s fans pretty happy.

Blonde Jana Cova and brunette Cameron Cruise, both of whom are dressed only in tux coats, bow ties, fishnets, and fuck-me pumps, take care of each other in Randy’s kitchen after Nikita sends them over to make him a “breakfast” to start the day out right. This is an okay scene. Jana is absolutely fucking gorgeous, but the scene seemed a bit soulless. It’s definitely beautiful, but the scene seemed so shallow that if it was water you wouldn’t even worry about taking your shoes off.

Randy Spears and Nikita Denise finally hook up for the penultimate scene after plenty of talking back and forth. Randy kisses his way from Nikita’s mouth to her nipples before letting her drop down and attack his tallywhacker. This is an okay scene. The chemistry between Randy and Nikita seemed a little lacking for me at times, but that might be due to how good a job the tease did in building up this scene. I also think some of the problem was the conflicting attitudes in the scene. Nikita had some good intensity going, but Randy seemed like he was just there for some playful fun. The ending also hurt things. I’m guessing the white creamy stuff when it went to stroking Randy’s cock was lotion, but it looked close enough to come to make me think that Randy had popped.

Finally, Steven St. Croix and Lee Stone take on Becca Bratt, who I think looks classier here than I’ve ever seen her, on an open staircase. Steven takes the lower half while Lee takes the top half, before they have Becca bend over so Steven can fuck her while she sucks Lee. She nicely works her way back and forth sucking the guys and letting them fuck her from behind until she starts riding Lee reverse cowgirl style, where she pretty much finishes things up. It’s a pretty good scene overall, but the ending saves it from mediocrity. Most of it seems to be a little limited and rushed due to only having two positions and basically flipping Becca back and forth between the guys. She does a nice job here, but it just didn’t make it all the way for me.

The Merger is a pretty good couples feature. There isn’t much of a plot, but what plot there is drives the movie nicely. The sex is nicely done, but does seem to drag on a few times due to the pacing of the scene or the camera work. I’ve found this to be pretty common with Nicholas Steele’s movies, but he does a pretty good job here and pushes things a little in a very nice way by bringing in a little anal play. Although some of the scenes feel like they’re shoved in because it’s time for sex (such as the excellent scene between Ashley Long and Steve Holmes), most of them fit into the storyline quite well. This is a tale of power, and sex can be every bit as powerful, if not more powerful, than the billion dollar dealings between companies. Nikita Denise and Randy Spears seem perfect in their roles here, with Nikita easily having the sultry temptress quality that’s needed for her role while Randy has the charisma to come off as a successful businessman. Is the plot anything special? No, but it works, and the sex is easily strong enough to carry The Merger where the plot can’t.

Extras: Trailers are included for Sweetheart Trilogy, Private Moments, Caribbean Undercover, Jewel De’Nyle’s Wild Ride, Taboo of Tarot, A Witch’s Tail, and A Wolf’s Tail. Instead of giving cast bios, you’re given a photo of many of the stars, their name, and a link to their scene. There’s also a photo gallery with about twenty nice looking snapshots, bonus scenes, and a behind the scenes featurette.

The first bonus scene comes from Sweetheart Trilogy and features Taylor St. Clair and Steven St. Croix. After a romantic dinner, Steven and Taylor head back to their room for a little dessert. Taylor takes Steven’s schlong all the way into her throat for a slow warmup before bending over for Steven to poke her from behind. Taylor even takes a few breaks to suck Steven while he takes breaks from fucking her. He finally pops on one of the girls mouth and lets them swap his gooey goodness back and forth. It’s a hot scene with great chemistry and a really great ending.

The final bonus scene teams Ann Marue and Becca Bratt with a scene from Amateur Angels 4. Both Ann Marie and Becca are very cute, very natural, and have pierced navels. The girls start out with some light kissing before stripping down at all, and then play and take the time to admire each other’s body as they do strip. The only thing that’s really overflowing is the chemistry between the girls, and that makes the entire scene extremely hot even though I think a minute or two could have been easily cut out of the scene.

The behind the scenes featurette lasts nearly sixteen minutes, and sadly has the same aspect ratio problems as the main feature. You get a few interviews with the cast, a little of Nicholas Steele working with the cast, and a little of the sex scenes being shot. It’s a nice behind the scenes featurette that captures most of the major players, and is worth checking out if you enjoyed the movie or are a fan of the stars.

Overall: Currently, most of Adam & Eve’s Premium Collection DVDs can be found online for between $13 and $22, with many stores offering them for around $18. The low end is pretty fair here. The movie is nicely done, but some of the sex drags. The technical aspects are pretty good, and there’s plenty of extras.

Note to Adam & Eve: Please pay more attention to your technical aspects. If you’re going to change the aspect ratio, I’m glad that you’re letting the viewer know, but do it right!
