Jenna Jameson Is The Masseuse Review

I have had two experiences with Vivid Video. This is my second. I have to say, if they released more movies like this, I would buy them a lot more often.

The Movie: Normally I talk about the sex and the plot seperate, but it's very hard to do that with this film because both are so tied together. The basic story is of a fairly nerdy, yet attractive young man who becomes obsessed with a masseuse. The story is simple, and yet, because the entire cast is great in their roles, it feels so much deeper. The script is very strong, the direction is very proffesional, and the acting is top notch. Now, I know Jenna is on the cover, but this isn't really her movie. The movie actually belongs to her real life husband, who plays the lead nerd. He carries this movie, and does an amazing job. I was very suprised. This is a hard movie for me to call a porno because, while the sex is graphic and very hot, it really is more because you are invested in the characters that you are watching. This is not a movie you fast forward through to get to the sex scenes. They build naturally, and because of that you have to watch them in that order. If you don't, then the intensity of the scenes (which includes some bondage material) is horribly diminished.

The leads aren't the only ones who do an amazing job. Evan Stone does an amazing job with his part, playing against type as a fairly nerdy guy. All the female roles are wonderfully played, and all of this is helped by a very strong, well written script.

A lot of people, when reviewing this title, say that they were more interested in the sex than the plot, but the thing is, the sex and the plot are so important together, that I was invested in the sex scenes, just not in the way I was intended to. This film is a mainstream porno. It's a movie that keeps the sex from feeling sleazy, and instead makes it intensley erotic, and yet not really wank material. This is the ultimate couples movie, or for anyone who wants to see what a good adult film with plot is. And I have to warn you, this movie has a very bittersweet ending. I really didn't see it coming.

I also have to say, the music in this movie is great, always keeping a somewhat sad undercurrent, even when the more intense techno starts up.

The Tech Stuff: This is the one part where I have a problem. The movie is very well shot, but the film (it was shot on film) is fairly grainy. Also, the sound is very fizzly, and off. Vivid really should have taken more time mastering this film for DVD. I also wish they had put it in letterbox, but that's just me.

Extras: There is very little in the way of extras on this disc. There is an interesting making of feature, and some other stuff.

Overall: This is one of the best adult films I've seen all year. If you are a fan of Jenna, or are looking for a much deeper adult film, check this one out!
