The movie opens with Richie Calhoun in a bar telling bar tender Jess, played by this screenplay's author Jacky St James, “Relationships are a train wreck of emotional carnage.”. Mr Calhoun is perfect as the curmudgeonly therapist Dr Bruce Highland. After chatting with the bartender about love and relationships we are introduced to a couple played by Lexi Bell and Anthony Rosano.
Marcus, played by Anthony Rosano and his trophy wife, played by Lexi Bell, are the 1st couple we see in Dr Highland's office. It turns out Ms Bell is a high maintenance wife with a serious shopping habit and Mr Rosano is the long suffering sugar daddy husband. When Dr Highland gives the couple the most contrary advice for a marriage counselor to give Mr Rosano expresses his displeasure in an unexpected way. Later that evening we see the couple ignoring the good doctor's advice, instead pursuing a really great Make-Up-Sex session which is the sweetest in the movie.
Dr Highland then meets a client, April played by Alison Tyler, he doesn't want to take on only to find out that Jess referred her as “the perfect project”. Soon Jess admits she has ulterior motives in referring April to the doctor. Jess is hopeful Dr Highland will learn something from his new client.
After meeting with the new client we then see Rebecca, played by Dana DeArmond and Todd, played by Xander Corvus. Rebecca is a nagging housewife and Todd is her lazy foil. Dr Highland tells them as much and adds that they are both in a fight for control of the marriage. Todd is the 2nd husband who doesn't care for the doctor's bedside manner and shows it. On the ride home from their session Rebecca and Todd decide to have an experiment in losing control and pull off to the side of the road for some spontaneous, back seat sex. This sex scene is the most fun in the film and a special treat for any fan with a foot fetish.
April returns for her 4:00pm appointment with Dr Highland to find him trying to recover from Todd's disapproval and suggests they move their session to his favorite bar.
Daydreaming about his session with April, Dr Highland brings himself back to the now and we meet Natasha Nice and Vince, played by Wolf Hudson. Ms Nice is a wife with 'manic sex energy' and Vince is her 'doormat' husband who has trouble getting it up. Dr Highland goes 0 for 3 with this couple as the Mrs switches things up by expressing her lack of appreciation for the good doctor.
Dr Highland again encounters April as he is trying to recover from his last patient. April turns the tables on the doctor and holds her own therapy session with the doctor on the receiving end of the questions.
The next scene shows us the Mrs coming home to Vince and explaining why she didn't take advantage of an opportunity for sex with another man. Following her admission she goes for a soak and Vince joins her in it for a sudsy sex session in a bubble bath.
When April returns to Dr Highland's office with an offer of friendship the doctor goes from counseling to cruelty. Soon we learn from Dr Highland's discussion with his sister, Jess the bartender, that the motivation for his cruelty was actually a noble one.
Next we hear the different characters talk about how they have changed their relationships due to the doctor's advice. As we hear these comments we see a time lapse of the doctor slowly adding warm, personal touches to his formerly sterile looking office and can guess at the reason why.
Finally, we see Dr Highland, once again, in the bar talking with his sister, Jess. Upon recapping his month and how things ended with the rest of his patients April enters the bar and Jess leaves with the admonition “Don't do anything I wouldn't do in this bar.”. I'm guessing Jess has had some pretty good times in that bar...
Can the marriage of Marcus and his trophy wife survive her shopping? Will Rebecca and Todd be able to put the Madagascar Vanilla incident behind them? Is Vince doomed to forever be the silent doormat in their relationship? Is April willing to make Dr Highland wait until she has gotten over her engagement? You'll have to watch the movie to find out all of the answers!
Love, Marriage and Other Bad Ideas is a really enjoyable movie. It's fun, fast paced with a good story, wonderful acting and romantic, yet hardcore sex from some of today's top adult entertainment stars.
Anthony Rosano is, as always, funny and perfectly on point in his role. Dana DeArmond and Xander Corvus are so sharply funny that I would love to see a sequel centered around these two characters. Richie Calhoun is completely believable as the too blunt and much put upon therapist. Seeing Jacky St James in her non-sex role as the doctor's sister/bartender was a huge bonus and the friendly chemistry between Ms St James and Mr Calhoun would make any viewer with a sibling smile.
Since this is a New Sensations Romance line release it is expected to be a good choice for couples and female viewers. Love, Marriage and Other Bad Ideas exceeds expectations. Rent or buy this and you are guaranteed a good story with a few laughs and great sex. This movie is worth your time and money.
