Initial Expectations: I’ve really liked what I’ve seen from Jules Jordan so far, but as soon as I read the amazing YogaGrrl’s review I knew I had to watch this.

Initial Reaction: It’s every bit as good as I hoped.

Audio /Video Quality: Although it’s gonzo porn, you wouldn’t really know it from the technical aspects, which are better than many adult feature movies. The audio is nicely clear throughout almost the entire feature. There are a few small areas where the audio seems a little hollow, but it doesn’t really interfere with the feature at all. The video is just as clear and almost as problem free. There isn’t any of the shakiness that most people have learned to expect from gonzo porn. There are a few minor lighting problems, such as one or two spots where there are a few shadows and a few spots where the lighting seems a little overdone, but neither really interfere with the feature much.

False Advertising: The cover states the inclusion of an Evil Angel filmography that allows you to see what other Evil Angel films the cast members have been involved in, but I can’t find it anywhere. This really surprises me since Evil Angel, and especially Tricia Devereaux who produced this DVD, normally pays a lot of attention to the little details. It’s not something that really annoys me, such as leaving out extra footage, but it is a nice feature that I’m sure many others like.

Menus: The main menu is extremely plain, and doesn’t even have any animation. The chapter menu is well done, as one has come to expect from Evil Angel. Each scene nicely identifies the lady in the scene and has several points you can jump to. If you want to take things further, you can use Evil Angel’s fetish menu to jump to a specific action.

The Feature: Over the past few years, Jules Jordan has established himself as probably the top up and coming gonzo porn director. That’s probably not quite right to say of him any more, since most people know that being under the Evil Angel banner means you’re no longer up and coming, but have now arrived. Jules Jordan scores another great feature with Lex the Impaler. Unlike most gonzo features, which commonly seem to be an average Joe with a camera, Jules Jordan has a great eye. The lighting and setups are great in almost every scene. He even uses some nice props to keep things fresh such as a glass chair in the scene with Sophie Evans and Lex. In the past, I can’t say that I was overly impressed with Lexington Steele, but that started to change watching him in some of Jules Jordan’s past features, and this one puts him near the top of my male performer list. Although there are a few things I do find a bit annoying about Lex at times, it’s hard to not like a guy who can’t hold back shouts of “wow” as he’s banging beautiful babes. There isn’t a bad scene here, and even the worst scene I’d say is hot at its worst point. The only problem would be figuring out which scene is the worst, as they’d all probably be one of my top picks if they were separated out into other movies. The best scene, however, is easily picked out with Jessie J and Layla Jade clearly leading the pack with a great mix of nastiness and heat. Most amazingly, however, is that amid a gonzo feature heavily filled with anal sex, there’s still a spirit of fun and enjoyment. It’s obvious that everybody here loves there work, and because of it, Lex the Impaler is a movie that’s fun to watch and highly recommended. The only really bad thing about it is going to be the wait for the sequel.

Extras: Starting off the extras is a photo gallery with forty five extremely clear snapshots that are enlarged to near full screen size. There’s also a scene by scene cast listing, a bio of Jules Jordan, and website information. Unfortunately, as I mentioned earlier, the advertised star filmography is missing, which is really a shame here since I’m sure I’m not the only person who wants to see more of these stars.

The main extra, however, is thirty eight minutes of extra sex, which is nicely arranged so that you can see it as the outtakes, photo sessions, or extra sex and tease. The outtakes last about two minutes, and includes some of the little things that happen during shoots such as finding the wrong hole, extra emissions, and cut lines. The photo sessions last about twelve minutes, and lets you see the stars taking directions from Jules so he can get the shots he wants. Surprisingly it only focuses on the last two scenes, but it spends enough time where you get a good feel for Jules shooting photos both before and during the scenes. Finally, there’s twenty four minutes of cut footage from the movie. It isn’t quite up to the rest of the movie technically, as it has some of Jules’ instructions and a bit of background noise, but neither interfere too much. It’s almost enough to consider it another half hour of wanking material, but it does feel a little chopped up. In the future, perhaps a brief screen to announce the performers in the scene would smooth things out a bit. Unlike many studios that do this as one big chapter, each time a new segment starts, be it going from outtakes to photo sessions or just from one scene to another in the movie, there’s a new chapter. This is some of the care that has made me so impressed with Evil Angel over the last few years. They put a lot of extra care into the little details that separate a good DVD from a great DVD.

Overall: Currently, Lex the Impaler can be found online for between $20 and $30 with a few stores offering it near the low end. If you want hot sex, this is well worth the price to own this one. I wouldn’t even bother suggesting you rent it, as I think it’s going to have a lot of replay value. There isn’t a bad scene here, and the technical aspects of this gonzo feature are even better than many features. The extras are also nice, giving you a nice bit of extra sex.

Note to Evil Angel / Jules Jordan: What can I say besides “Wow!”. I was extremely tempted to give you a full 5 here, but the few over lighting problems and the missing advertised filmographies held me back.
